One of the best drills I've experienced. I purchased your Body Swing series a couple months back and have seen major improvement. Forgetting the strong grip and transitioning to a neutral grip was probably the hardest habit to break at 58 years old, however, I'm seeing more consistency with my shots. Still working on the loose wrist and hitting my irons pure. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for the support. Glad you are starting to get it. Glad you are doing the neutral grip now. This is a game changer for sure but it does take work. Stay focused and try to perfect each lesson. Just do this daily at home. This is one of the biggest issues people have. They don't do swings daily.

I seriously think you’re one of the very few pros in the world who actually understand and are able to teach how to hit a golf ball. So many pros are obsessed with body angles and positions, they forget all about what the club head is supposed to do at impact. Thank you!!! Soft wrists and hands are absolute key. I think so many pros and good golfers have no idea why they’re able to hit a golf ball. But for those of us who aren’t naturals, your advice is the missing link of golf instruction!

5:35 - At the range I did one swing strictly hinge/rehinge with very little lower body action, just to see what would happen. The ball went about 83% of my normal distance with a little pull fade. Absolutely amazing. For those people who top it, fat it, don't make contact, or can't get it down the fairway, this one change would immediately lower their handicap by 10 strokes, maybe more!

Glad you liked it. Thanks. This is the key. Too many people out there just whacking away as hard as they can. This tightens the wrists and can get you manipulating the face. Just need to let it go. This loosens the wrists so you get way more clubhead speed with no effort. This clubhead speed is for life because you don't have to be strong to be loose. Plus, if you aren't hitting you allow the forces to act on the mass almost eliminating any face twisting. Might want to watch this one too. Paul Wilson Golf - i went to the range and hit a bucket of balls. Your “string around the axis” analogy helped me hit my clubs better than ever before - even my 5W, 3W and driver! The idea of choking down helped me loosen up my wrists and imagining the face 2 feet ahead of the ball with straight arms, stretched out, helped me hit straighter, more consistent shots. It’s going to take lots more practice, but the seed is planted and I can’t wait to get back out and run those drills again. Thank you!

Went to the course and choked up on all my clubs and after a few holes I was suddenly hitting the ball long and straight. I hit a three hybrid 225 and I'm 66 years old. After watching a bunch of Paul’s videos, I’ve come to the conclusion that most if not all of swing problems have to do with “trying” to hit the ball. When you try to hit the ball, you are using your arms, and that leads to widely inconsistent shots. The most helpful swing thought for me is the “hinge-unhinge”. This forces you to use your body and leads to an effortless swing. Thanks Paul
@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
You got it. This is so true. Now who wants to hit with arms? Almost everyone. This is why almost everyone needs help with their swing. Pros don't hit solely with the arms. Pros learned as kids when they had minimal arm strength. See it now? Hinge - rehinge is a huge part of it. You get that working then connected to coil - uncoil. Simple.

Hi Paul, Can I just say a big thank you. I don't think I have ever seen nor received such simple and effective golf advice as from you. As a single figure handicapper for over 35 years my golf has recently become tired and jaded due to a loss in confidence, shanking and generally not hitting the ball as before to the point that mu love of golf has been leaving me. Through your tutorials, so simple and effective, my love of this wonderful game is back. You really are a genius. For anyone reading this, watch Paul's tips on shanking and how to stop pushing the ball out to the right- ie the 6 inch marker before the ball.. The man s a golf wizard. The best of the lot.

@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Not sure why everyone thinks they have to hang up the clubs. Doing practice swings at home is the best way to work on your swing. No ball means no distraction of you trying to hit it. If there is no distraction you can make the changes over the winter then play great golf next season as opposed to not practicing then working on it next season when you should be playing great golf. I have literally taught this for years. It's just getting everyone to do it. Just take out a 7 iron and having sitting there. Do daily practice swings doing some of the stuff in my tips and it will be mastered by next season.

Paul, love your videos and found this one especially helpful. Tried it on the range yesterday and it was just like you said. Loose wrists resulted in a nice ball flight. Might try this during today’s round on a couple shots at our club that are always tough for me. Still not sure, even after watching a few times, exactly why this drill works. Is it simply having a little of the club weight above your hands enough to feel different? Thanks again and keep up the good work.
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Great to hear! It changes the balance point of the club so you can feel it hinging and rehinging. You do this and you loosen the wrists which is exactly what I am after. Hopefully, you saw the end of the tip where I said once you get it gripping all the way down then start to move up a little then a little more. So today why not grip down an inch to try it?

I am in the category of the “exact same thing”. I did your “one bucket challenge”. You were right. I started off topping balls. After half a bucket, I was able to compress the ball. Not every shot, but I could do it. With some extra focus, I could also do it using the full length of the club. And yes, I did need to weaken my grip. It is a completely different feel. I needed to relax my wrists, my hands, arms, shoulders, and trust my body to swing the club. Last, I needed to focus on posture as I tend to stand up in my swing. It was an amazing experience. I plan on repeating this challenge at the range from now on as my new warmup routine. Thank you very much. Because of you, golf is fun again.
@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
Glad you tried it and keep at it until you got it. It's a great feeling when you know you are on your way and can actually hit amazing shots. Keep at it until you memorize the feeling so you can apply it on the course.

@@paulwilsongolf For me, the hardest thing is overcoming the fear of hitting behind the ball. The compensations I've developed over time are a little bit of a chicken wing and raising my body a bit. These helped me to avoid the embarrassment and frustration of hitting behind the ball. Now, I will now start to overcome these ingrained habits and work on feeling more comfortable in letting my arms extend and swing the club with my new body swing. I plan to take it one step at a time as you advise in your videos. The big test will be taking it to the course and mentally staying with it. I will try this once I've gone through enough buckets. Thank you.

Paul thank you for the easy to understand videos and explanations, I've watched about and I've finally found where I was making my errors and why I haven't been able to make progress. I've only been been playing gold for about 2 years now, a friend taught me a bit of the basics before he moved so I've been playing on my own with what he left me and from watching others and after my fourth time on the course I decided I won't play on a course until I'm satisfied with my swing at the driving range, unfortunately life keeps you busy at times and couldn't go hit the balls as much as I'd like to and I was advised against watching 'how to' videos because everyone is different and would just confuse a beginner because of all the steps and I agree... Luckily I realised a while back that golf isn't about how hard you hit the ball but I couldn't figure out why my club/driver face kept opening and now I know, I don't hinge I tense up instead as well as not using my hips and legs and following through and a few other things thats wrong with my foundation that I'm looking forward to improving so thank you and I look forward to watching your other videos and putting them into practice... Apologies for the essay

@@paulwilsongolf agreed simple is best. I just finished watching your video on the neutral grip and I learnt that my grip was completely wrong. @paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You can do this but I would be concerned about loosening up. I would be doing this drill at home in practice swings loosening up your wrists. Here is now to beat your friends. When you get to the course you hit only 25 balls. When you hit them DO NOT aim for a target. DO NOT care where the balls go. In fact just hit it and don't even watch it. Once you hit your 25 balls go putt and chip. Now you will step on the first tee with no expectations.
@captainculpeper125010 ай бұрын
Paul... great advise! I used to play very well without much wrist hinge...… now I definitely hit it farther, but every once in a while I slice the ball drastically right because I think I'm holding the hinge too long and leaving the face open... I might need more work on my timing and not waiting so long to turn over. Thanks for all your excellent videos! I think I watched them all!

This is the first time I've ever heard of this drill, but I'm willing to give it a chance. I've watched 100's of videos by very good teachers, bought a Divot board and the whole "nine yards" as they say. I haven't played golf for over 3 years. I'm 67 and a 5 handicap at 35. I went out in the back yard to take some soft swings with a a lob wedge and was either hitting thin or fat. I hate the feeling of those pitches! I know what I'm doing, but couldn't stop doing it! Frankly it made me angry. I will try this with a short club and choke way down and hit "a bucket of balls" off of a very low TEE! Thanks friend.
