Agree, you dodged a bullet with that inspector. Take the gifts when they're being handed out.

Good call on waiting for settling in the spring to do drain lines & then round 2 of grading. I wouldn't compact with in a few ft of the foundation without heavily bracing the walls. Yes the spancrete & floors will keep the upper part of walls from moving in IF its supported on opposite side of foundation with basement walls & backfill. But it doesn't help the middle of the walls that can & do bow/ crack. I've seen it happen on many jobs including my own. Pretty tough if not impossible to repair at that time. (Inject the cracks with epoxy is about it) Way easier to brace the shit out of all the full height walls now & leave them in place till you need to move for basement drain work or pour your floors. (Cheap insurance) I'm from Mn with more frost depth/ freeze issues. Very exciting & nice job Steve! Take care of yourself health wise... Your in a marathon, not a sprint. Lots of stress through out a project like this.

I tend to talk about 30% of an idea that I have in my head hahaha but your exactly right, vibrating and compacting should be a few feet from the foundation haha but thank you very much! I’m really looking forward to all of the progress!

Mother Nature should take care of a lot of the settling for you around the foundation with the freeze / thaw cycles this time of year Steve. Happy New Year

It looks great, and as another poster said, your framing has probably already started. Can't wait to see the progress. I already have a pic of you mowing your lawn with a zero turn... Happy New Year...

Don't forget to cover those conduits. You don't want to get frustrated over inconsiderate workers dropping stuff in them. Now would be a great time to plan ahead for heated floors, a few extra bucks now and then toasty feet in the future.

That’s a good call! And yup, we are piping the floor in for heat but it probably won’t get hooked up for a couple years haha. Thanks for watching!

I hope this doesn’t sound too silly… Could you show how much water is being drained from around your perimeter of the house? you did alot with that set up; kind of want to see the pay off. Heavy rain or just snowmelt. Sidenote, if you don’t mind - and nothing specifically; some of the “best” arguments I had with my dad was him helping me build my dream shop. Give your old man a hug and be nice to him. (The holidays bring it out I suppose). Great build keep it up! Love the channels

I hate the cold. My concrete boss when I was a young guy got the contract to plow snow at the Philly airport where the planes would park. So I ran a 580 case backhoe with a makeshift lower plywood enclosure and a tarp over the top with my head sticking out. I've never been so cold before and ever since then it's difficult to deal with. I guess what I'm saying is my lady parts don't like the cold haha

Set my 42 ft steel beam by hand, sort of. Used my pickup to pull it up across corner of concrete walls, pulled it so 4” at each end on the wall, then used come along to pull it evenly to middle of house and over the block filled pockets, then jacked and lowered each end into the pocket. Crane looks like cheating 😂😂
