Instead of looking at this as a groove box, it's very viable to look at it as a 60 voice, four part multi-tambral synth with a build in drum machine. If you put keys on this and had it in a rectangular form factor, it would work equally well. From that context, it is a WAY more interesting piece of kit. So many uses. It's the pile of roland sounds in a box. It's the pads and drums for your modular. Its your much lighter replacement for several other pieces of gear you no longer have to drag to the gig. It's your song sketchpad. Or it's just a hell of a good sounding synth used one part at time... for the cost of two boutiques you get a hell of a lot more.

You could argue whther it not it counts as a groovebox, but the highly underrated Roland MV-1 has 128-voice polyphony. But then it does have 7 tracks (plus vocal track).

Unfortunately, when using USB audio, I hear audio from both the DAW and the device itself. The sound is doubled. It is unclear how to leave only the sound that comes from USB (DAW). Without this setting, multitrack recording doesn't make much sense.

Hi Patchwerks and thank you so much for your video! For my musical experimentation I would need to go below the 20bpm limit of the SH-4D. Do you know if this might (somehow) be possible? Thank you in advance.

Best coverage of this for sure. I'm surprised at that I find myself attracted to this machine. Personally I've never really been a big fan of Rolland sounds other than drums, and it's more money than I wanted to spend even used, but I might have to bite the bullet and get one.
