This is an awesome idea. 1) It encourages you to set constraints since creating too many tracks would become burdensome. 2) It provides easy access to old material without the burden of having to dig through folders or create an efficient file system. 3) Keeping lots of different sketches in one place could really help you stumble onto some "happy accidents" in terms of sound and even genre-blending. Now that I'm looking to put this into practice, I'm realizing that working mostly in the box may make this seem a bit daunting. For example, how could you use multiple presets across one synth, etc.? Well - maybe, don't. Get the synth where you want it, save the preset somewhere useful and with a useful name, and resample or flatten. And if the idea is REALLY striking, render it out to a new project rather than going too deep in the sketch area.

Lot's of vst accept program changes. For example, if you use Pigments, you could create a playlist of all of your presets, and when you launch a new scene, send a program change to select the proper preset. That's what I do :)

Great example of what makes Ableton Live's Session View so special!!🔥
@hasan7786

Dont mean to be the "Bitwig guy" but when you're able to work with audio in the session video more like an audio track than a loop, thats when it becomes special. Thats one of the reasons I haven't come back to bitwig. I'm arranging in the session video, for example, setting up my kick track and timig in a single session clip. Thats the magic of bitwig. Dont get me wrong, ableton is awesome so when I tried to come back, I just couldnt work in the session view anymore because audio was just loops, I couldnt slice it up and move things around like I could in Bitwig.

I really like this idea but it feels like it would be really annoying to move ideas to their own project. Would you just duplicate the sketchbook and delete everything you don’t want?
@cashnasty7
@cashnasty7 Жыл бұрын
You can simply highlight the clips you like that are playing and drag them into a new folder. It will be saved as a live set that you can open and keep working on.

@@cashnasty7 Took me a minute to figure out that I had to drag to my user library and not to a folder on my hard drive, but this worked like a charm. Thanks!

Cool idea but this sketchbook can become overly big if you store all your recording sessions in a single file.
