Just goes to show you it doesn't have to be complicated to be a great riff.

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull mentioned something that applies to this during The BBC Sessions interview. Ian and Martin Barre were talking about the riff in Aqualung, and Anderson first hummed the riff to Aqualung, Whole Lotta Love, Sunshine of Your Love, Iron Man, Smoke on the Water, and…Beethoven’s famous 5th Symphony. He followed that with “they’re all the same 4 or 5 notes, just arranged by a different monkey!” “It doesn’t have to be complicated to be a great riff.”

@@jamesthe-doctor8981 James or should I say Doctor that's very cool, what and interesting and very true statement by Ian Anderson I've never heard that one before, and I love Jethro tull. Locomotive breath, skating away etc I haven't listened to them in awhile except for a concert on KZbin last month. It was nice to see Ian is still doing well. We're losing so many of my generations rock heroes lately. I guess I get older but I just refuse to be old! Great comment tho. Have a good one. Peace ✌!
@jamesthe-doctor89813 жыл бұрын
@@stephenlandry9343 thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it. The BBC Sessions set has a good deal of interview time with Anderson and Barre. Unfortunately, Ian Anderson isn’t really doing very well these days, though. It seems that although he never smoked or did drugs, he developed serious COPD, which he blames on the chemicals in the fog machine they used onstage for decades. With as active a showman as he’s always been, jumping around everywhere onstage, I’m sure he inhaled more than his share of that fog. What a shame!
@stephenlandry93433 жыл бұрын
@@jamesthe-doctor8981 well Doctor that sucks ! Ian avoided all the peer pressure from the dope scene which was so big back then just to get sick from theatrical chemicals. Man I hate to hear that. I will definitely check out the BBC specials. A man on one leg rocking a flute successful became a rock star what balls he had. His determination to me is the definition of the as thick as a brick! Thanks for the info I'll put it to good use.

@@stephenlandry9343 you’re welcome. Anderson talked about it in this latest season of The Big Interview With Dan Rather, so it’s very recent. He says he has better days and worse days, and during the interview was a good day.

Nope.he’s still missing a note. There’s 3 open low e’s being palm muted. Jimmy Page is a tricky little bastards. Even Joe Walsh who unveiled the secret of that bend still misses that third note. Remarkably, that internet hottie plays it right. Hang on. Let me find the link. kzbin.infoqOKB3EqHJeA?feature=share

I’d be 99% sure that there were two guitar tracks, one with the slight bend and one without it and the band and the producers just liked the way it sounded, this is an incredibly creative and accurate way to play it

I wouldn't be able to wait until the left eye was done, before playing with that ukulele❣️ Hee❣️ I picked up my guitar again after being blind for the duration. Decided to play with it for my own comfort with nothing to prove. Every day my playing has just gotten better from just playing for the fun of it. Then I found these wonderful you tube channels after you tube became accessible with pc screen reader software and iphones. Now it is such a joy to learn more and more new things to play, and work on parts of my technique. I love Marty's channel. He explains things so that I can figure it out without seeing it, particularly different techniques that I never caught onto as a younger sighted person. Meanwhile, I am celebrating 🥳 your cataracts getting fixed❣️ ...and you having a fun new Uke❣️🌸😃💖

Try this: playing it with all up and down strokes (kinda like you're strumming it). That's the way Jimmy plays it and it comes out a whole lotta more natural! Very light emphasis on the palm muted open E. It may take a moment or two (or three or four) to get used to, especially if you're very used to playing it with just down strokes. But, I changed to this method, and it sounds and FEELS much more natural. Just give it a shot. See what you think.

This used to be a secret few knew about although he is not quite getting it right that's the key 99% of people don't get right. Now to avoid over bending but still getting the out of phase sound I do this "bend the A string up towards the E with your index finger instead of pulling down like in the video, remember it's a very subtle bend so try it like that."
