Lets not forget how Jim Carrey *threw* himself into the role to impress his grandkid who was a Sonic fan. Even going as far as psychologically breaking down the character from his numerous appearances and then forming his own conclusion as to why and how eggman got to the point he was at the beginning of the film. I'd have to look it back up but essentially the quote from him was roughly "He was repeatedly failed by other people who were in positions of power or authority as well as by the man made system he felt trapped in, and the only thing he could ever rely one was the artificial systems he made" The movies might never really explore this part of Jim Carrey's rendition of the character, but I love that he took the time to really give the character that much depth of his own volition.
@HenshinFanatic2 жыл бұрын
That's what talented actors do, get into the headspace of the character they portray, and make the viewing public believe they are who they portray. It used to be much more common, but today actors only need to be eye candy rather than have any actual skill among acting, dancing, pratfalling, singing, or the myriad other ways to distinguish themselves above the competition.

Not to be rude, but he did it because he wanted to better connect with his grandson, who is a huge Sonic fan.

But he has spoken about how he threw himself into the games to get a proper scope of the character and you can defo tell that in his performance and how openly hes spoken about adding layers to the character and incorporate new stuff. @@PokemonkaDub Definitely, that evaluation coincides if Eggman knew that his family got killed in the ARK, but without knowing why. If Jim decides to retire from acting, I hope he does Sonic 3 at least since Shadow storyline is what it will be about, and there you can dwelve into his relationship with his family, his admiration for his grandpa, whether they knew of him, how he'll feel when learning his grandpa triggered a suicidal apocalyptic plan in response to the death of her granddaughter. Would he have done the same for him? Did he do it despite knowing he would kill his other grandson in the process? Could be a neat sendoff if they do it right.

It was such a genius decision to give Robotnik this deep resentment for humanity and obsession with machines. It explains so much about the character. He sees technology as the solution to humanity's shortcomings, the next step in evolution. It's something I wouldn't mind seeing carried over into the main Eggman. Also, his relationship with Sonic in this version is interesting. He exclusively refers to the hedgehog as "it", like he's more of a target than a nemesis (that would probably be Tom, given their interactions)

Part me of hopes that the Sonic movie universe successes and we get an adaption of Sonic Heroes. So we can see Robotnik react to Metal Sonic betraying him and taking control of his machines. Mainly because Robotnik prefers machines as they obey their programming, they always follow orders. So what happens when one of his greatest creations feels that the good doctor is holding them back from completing their created purpose?
@aaronimp49662 жыл бұрын
@@jordanread5829 Love it! This eggman would be shaken to his core. Imagine the momentary self-doubt where he wonders, "am I obsolete? Unreliable? Flawed?" Before his major ego trip of "I am ROBOTNIK! Jim Carrey's evolved adaptation as eggman/robotnik in sonic 2 is something a few steps beyond this depiction of the first movie. He is an unhinged and completely vengeful pride bomb that is given enough power to become exactly what he is in the games and every single scene involving him and knuckles truly shows just how much Jim loves being this character. retirement or not, we got both depictions and evolution of Robotnik to Eggman played by the same spectacular actor. props to Fowler to convince Jim to play Robotnik a second time a third time however seems to be a miracle
@diersteinjulien67732 жыл бұрын
Well... They obviously played the "no body" card at the end and a 3rd movie is unavoidable now. I just can't imagine anyone else playing him than Jim now. The only (proper) way to take him out while replacing the actor would be to have him really dead, with Stone fleeing with the body, and him becoming a new eggman as a way to avenge "his" eggman. It would take tremendously good writing and acting to pull that off.

I Couldn't agree more mate. First off you were lucky to see Jim Carrey in person in a screening of The Sonic Movie. The Video essay proves of why he's such a fantastic villain in the film. From motivational goals, why does he despise humans and decide to take his love over machines and his obsession on his highly intelligent achievements. Why does he have a big issue on tracking down Sonic The Hedgehog so much in the first place. Even when he gets knocked down, he still motivated to keep coming back up with unexpected surprises. Thanks to the recent previews for the sequel to sonic, we see some of robotnics robots seem more like the ones in the original Sonic games, looking like hornets and other woodland creatures, which is something I appreciate, but it kind of takes away something I liked about Jim Carrey's take on eggman, which is his uniqueness. The robots and everything about the 2020 sonic the hedgehog was something that was rarely touched about in sonic, so having new styles robots, an eggman with hair and human assistants, all something barely touched on in sonic. This is not to say that I'm disappointed with it, however I really liked having a new type of eggman that was different in a special way, and this new sonic may take away some of that, which I still like because of eggmans natural personality, but this type of eggman being unique is something I'll miss

This isn’t a RWBY villainous scene but I haven’t seen anyone talk about it and I feel compelled to do so MHA season 5: League of Villains vs Meta Liberation Army: Twice goes plus ultra I’m the scene in question Twice, the resident Deadpool of the LOV, is carrying the unconscious body of his fellow teammate Himiko Toga as he is being chased down by clones of himself created by the MLA in order to make him join them. In the past, Twice used his quirk “double” to create copies of himself to serve as servant to him but they rebelled and fought one another leaving twice with a damaged psyche and him going insane if he was the real deal or not. As a result he refuses to make clones of himself and is afraid to take damage(the max one of his clones can take is a broken limb before turning to goo) Back to the scene Twice is being held down by the dark clones as two of them begin to twist Toga’s neck. Just as they are about to snap her neck, one of the evil twice’s breaks his arm, causing twice to have and epiphany that he is the REAL twice and begins making thousands upon thousands of copies himself in a move called “Sad Man’s Parade” I think this scene, as well as Toga’s quirk evolving earlier in the story and the scene during Tomura Shigaraki’s fight with Redestro, are some of the most powerful scenes for the villains thus far in the anime as they allow the viewer to see what caused these villains to be villains and that they were just like us, just people who were put into unfortunate situations. Not to mention that whilst the LOV got some sweet upgrades to their quirks, twice learned how TO USE his quirk to its fullest potential. In my opinion, the majority of the MHA villain cast can be summed up in one quote(more or less) “Don’t judge my story by the chapter you walked in on”.

"More backstory than we've ever been given"? Not entirely true. In animated, live-action, and video games maybe, but not in comics. Julian Robotnik (Whom eventually ends up becoming Eggman after some multi-dimensional hijinks cause an alternate version of Robotnik, whom roboticized himself, to leave the universe he had conquered after beating Sonic and wanting to find a new universe to rule) is extremely well-fleshed out in the old Archie Comics.

Xenophobia=/= racism. One has a possible logical bases the other is just pure fear of the uncanny self reflection. Sonic may be human like but he is very much not human. Does that mean he shouldn't be granted empathy or his life treated as sacred, well that's a moral question of possible threat vs actual threat. He is very dangerous to mankind should he ever decide to be so. Acknowledging, fearing, and envying that power isn't a fallacy as fearing another with equal power that merely looks different. PLEASE IF YOU'RE GOING TO PROJECT YOUR WORDS INTO THE WORLD, KNOW WHAT THE FUCKING MEAN!

Jim Carrey was good, don't get me wrong, and I enjoyed his performance, but I have to say he ran into the same issue he had when he played the riddler, I was not seeing Robotnick I was seeing Jim playing Robotnick

Yeah.... at times, anyway. There was definitely a lot of "yep, that's Carrey being Carrey" moments. But then there were other moments where I just saw the egomaniacal mad scientist grandstanding while trying to Get That Hedgehog, and it felt like it just... clicked! So not a perfect performance by any means, but still a great one.

And then, like most things sonic, the sequel botched it. I don't know really. I loved the movie as a whole but hated the direction they took Eggman in. Like 4 minutes in he actually calls himself Evil which really doesn't line up with anything from the first movie. I don't think anyone can argue with that. In the first movie he thought he was the good guy, he was convinced JJJ style that Sonic was a menace. Sure he was after the power of the quill but under the notion of doing his actual job (Somewhat) and protecting the planet. In two he's just...there and he's evil. I wonder if it's because he kept licking the quill for some weird reason.

I think you have a valid perspective. As something of a possible counter-point: there's evidence that even in the first movie, he self-identified as evil, given the song he chooses to jam out to while performing mad science (the whole "Evil Grows in Me" bit). He's clearly an outsider, he hates humanity.... and he tended to mock the alien hedgehog's heroic tendencies. I don't think he ever actually cared about protecting anyone.

I more meant that he felt Sonic was a threat to his Supremacy much more than he actually believed he was a threat to the earth. The sequel very much feels like he needs to best the Hedgehog so.....What does the Death Egg have to do with that. And yes he had that choice of song, but not everything has to be foreshadowing like that. I don't worship Satan if I listen to one death metal song for example. Could just be a song he's heard. That said thematically it very much does fit Eggman, the tune and... Eggman. But this Eggman doesn't actually feel evil really at all. So the blatent labeling of himself like that just threw me was more my point.
