Any reason they choose to use that bucket instead of the usual pumps directly from the concrete?
@peon92824 жыл бұрын
abum91 Idk how it‘s like in the US, but in Europe, pumps are only used for larger slabs and unusually high wall segements. For small slabs, wall segments and pillars a bucket is used. It‘s just better to dose smaller amounts and a concrete pump is expensive to call, so if there‘s already a tower crane, why not use it?
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
@@abum91 It's not to save calling out a concrete pump, because you can see on Tuesday's pour they filled the bucket with a pump. It looks to me like they are using the bucket on those small columns because they have better control. The are putting in just a little at a time often.
@user9900774 жыл бұрын
@@abum91 I think it was a temporary measure as the video shows another concrete pumping tower being installed. I was on a job in the mid 70's where they were installing microwave antennas on mountain tops and they used those buckets to lift concrete to the site. Laborers had to use a conductive stick to ground the bucket before they grabbed it as static charge would build up from the helicopter rotors and the moist air.

Hi, one question from germany: Is the usage of highly handmade concrete formwork the usual way in the U.S.? Here in germany we're mainly using system formwork, which ist modular and reusable. Once again a very good video!!
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
Modular forms are used most commonly in the US too. On this project they are using custom pre-built forms for the square columns, designed to be easily removed and re-used. They are using handmade forms on those unusually shaped walls. It's probably simpler since there are only a couple of them.
@eptyr124 жыл бұрын
Modular framework is most common. One of a kind walls or an unusual shape wall will get a unique handmade frame.
@stainfels16854 жыл бұрын
@@eptyr12 @Construction Watcher Thank you for your answer! Mainly i've meant the plain brown concrete forms in the upper left corner.
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
@@stainfels1685 Good point. I think those were brought in as panels built off site. I don't know why they did that rather than using a modular system.
@firesurfer4 жыл бұрын
They are because this is SF and the earthquake requirements make hand made forms a necessity. (my guess) Lots of special sizes. I'm not sure but the one-sided forms in the back are probably intended to be disposable. They might even be permanently embedded.

Here's the answer: The Blue Bumps are waterproofing domes that cover a tieback for the below grade walls. The tiebacks tend to move and be tricky to detail with the waterproofing, so the dome allows movement and a quick waterproofing detail.
