Interesting optical illusion at 6:45. The three upright steels look to be the same length (almost) and in line. At 7:00 you realise they're not. MC Escher is alive and well and building apartment blocks! Also, A very happy early (episode chronology) or late (calendar chronology) Christmas. I hope you had a peaceful and safe one. and would like to thank you for what must be a huge effort and commitment to make these videos. I for one really appreciate it. My sunday breakfast wouldn't be the same. Thank you.

I know these guys are professionals and know their jobs and have schematics but that rat nest of things on the ceiling, with all the different trades, I just don't know how they know what goes where. LOL. Amazing how much that crane tower moves when the arm swings around. Beat it long enough and hard enough and eventually it will fit.

As for the intermittent nature of the sprinkler fitter, only thing I can guess is that they haven’t cut all the non-standard lengths of pipe ahead of time. Now they have plans for all the rooms and where sprinkler heads have to go and not all of those locations fall exactly on precut and threaded lengths, so I’m sure someone is cutting and threading all that black iron pipe somewhere on site. Maybe they are fitting everything in an area until they need something cut, they then note what they need cut, and then hand that off to the poor schmuck cutting and threading (known in some places as the ground man since they aren’t climbing up and down all the time), and then working in another area where they do have materials cut and ready. That’s more efficient than each hand cutting his own pipe and such. I’ve never worked around sprinkler fitters much but I have seen pipe fitters work that way, with tasks pretty well distributed by skill and seniority. The old guys do the layout, cutting, and such and the youngsters fetch and tote. Black iron isn’t that expensive to mess up but something like thick wall stainless is damned expensive. I had an Uncle who while working on the South Texas nuke plant “accidentally” cut a piece of 30 inch in diameter stainless 3/4 inch too short. Turned out to be a damned near indestructible BBQ grill. Things happen you know.

Often, someone will appear, put in a pipe or two, or maybe put in a sprinkler head or two, and then disappear. They could return to the same spot to continue in 5 minutes, 5 hours, or 5 days later, I never know which it's going to be. I'm sure it is efficient for them, but makes camera aiming tricky! Ah well, that's just one of the challenges for me... guessing where something interesting is going to happen next. Sometimes I have success, sometimes I guess totally wrong!

The tower crane is a Terex hammer head crane but I don't know what type of crane. But whoever else knows better. We in Germany don't have that many Terex hammer head cranes. Thanks for the episode.

seasons greetings and good morning and good morning from Thailand,good to see the progress happening everyweek,is there going to be a topping out ceremony?
@HospitalConstruction4 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that they might have one, but for a building like this it would just be a small affair with a small lunch or something, but the pandemic may cause it to be abandoned or at least changed.

What are the flexible silver tubes they install in several shots? It looks like flex conduit. Is that allowed in San Francisco?

I assume that's what it is. I think it is allowed as I've seen it in other buildings.
