Yeah, it's very strange. At that time it wasn't accepted to be open and out. He did the brave thing of simply dating and sleeping with whoever made him happy. Why did the press feel as if they were owed it for him to go to them and tell the world he wasn't straight

I remember the day Freddie Mercury died, like it was yesterday. I remember I used to read teletext every morning whilst I was getting ready for school. I was 15 and in year 10. I remember shouting to my mum ‘mum, Freddie Mercury has died!’ I’ll never forget, she was washing the breakfast pots, I heard her clattering pots, then she came running into the front room. We were both just speechless. That day at school, everybody was talking about it and we were all so sullen. We were at an age where a lot of our parents were big Queen fans and we loved a lot of the old songs and especially the more recent songs because they were released in our lifetime. That day we had a music class and instead of doing what we were supposed to doing, the whole class burst into a full rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Our teacher was so angry, but we didn’t care and didn’t stop. We wanted to honour Freddie in that moment. Their are certain celebrity or high profile deaths that no matter how old you get, or how long ago it happened, you never forget the details, it imprints on your memory forever - Princess Diana was another in 1997. My sister came bounding into my room waking me up to tell me! It’s just shocks you into silence and your mind just goes far away. Kurt Cobain in 1994 is as clear as day for me, as well.

They hadn't done this interview if press hadn't been so bad . Fans were devastated when they read about how lonely and miserable Freddie was in the end of his life and I suppose many wrote to the other members in Queen or fan club, whatever and asked why they left their friend alone. They wanted answers.. I think Brian and Roger wanted to defend Freddie and themselves too. Freddie's friend Mary Austin did an interview quite soon after his death too.
