Started skating after 8 years out of necessity as a transport mode in this covid hell. I have a pair of aggressive skates 56mm 85a wheels..... from a decade ago and in last few months I have done long distances on it even in rain and just today when it snowed, I just put on the skates and went out and it was AMAZING. Skating in wet weather demands so much focus that you forget all the worries and are literally in the zone and once you get home you are clear headed. Damn....Thanks for inspiring me to put on the skates again, Bill. Will be ordering proper skates for cruising now in a few days and will stay low.

Be very careful with bigger wheels on slippery roads ( I suppose you will buy bigger wheels cause skating city on 56 is a tough thing). The bigger the wheel the more careful you should be with edging.

I have to admit, it's nice to see you fall from time to time. It makes your videos so much more relatable! And it shows that falling looks kinda cool sometimes. Like :"This little fall doesn't hurt, I'm used to it." While I can only dream of skating like you, it reminds me that you're also only human and still learning, still getting better, and that falling is just a part of the sport. Watching all the skating videos on KZbin one usually doesn't see the fails or the learning process, and it's great to be reminded that the prospect of falling shouldn't make me afraid to try new things. Seeing you fall is also a great way of learning how professionals handle the falls without any kind of protection, and they still come out fine! Thanks for including them in your videos!

Thankyou for inspiring me to get out in the cold, my sometime small mind needs expanding! The voice in my head says it's too cold, most others think it's too cold... Not Bill! Not me now either 😎😃

The sequence of you trying out different methods of skating backwards in the car park is like some trippy fever dream, between the blur and the unusual movements. I couldn't look away! I love stamping one foot down and pushing as I'm turning while going backwards, it makes me feel powerful.

Hey Bill just wanted to say personally I very much enjoy your videos i definitely needed someone to help bringing back my courage. I'm 60 years old and started skating again about six months ago after about 30 years off the skates. Not sure if you can relate to what it's like to start all over again but it's coming back slowly. I had forgotten how much fun it is and watching your vids helps my confidence, i kinda steel some of yours so to speak. So I'd just like to say thanks from Texas and hope you keep up the great work.

Too many good things in this video to choose one to comment on but I will settle on this...it looks like you are getting more comfortable looking over your shoulder while skating backwards which is essential for backwards urban skating! You and I both know from hockey that when you skate backwards on the ice rink in a game that you have your eyes firmly fixed on the guy skating at you trying to get past you! There is no looking backwards when the lines on the ice tell you where you are and there are no obstacles on the ice behind you to trip you! Enjoying watching your practice and focus pay off!

As you know, many of those newer street lines, especially the wide ones at stops, when wet are quite slippery... almost greasy. I noticed your power stop was fine until your right edge hit the paint. It then accelerated, but the manhole cover saved the baconator. On a lighter note, thanks to global warming, Toronto is becoming a year-round in-line skating paradise....
@BillStoppard3 жыл бұрын
Yes T, good eye, the paint was definitely a factor! I also agree that Toronto is disconcertingly hospitable to skating in winter.

Bill, please advise. I'm a size 14 US shoe and can't find many blades that fit me. 1. Should I get size 14 blades or go higher? 2. Can you recommend any blades for guys with silly feet, like me?

@3:30 You may hate your look, but it's really not that bad, those kinds of headphones are kinda trendy. I prefer bluetooth sport buds, Sony's XBR line works best for me - they come with like 4 sizes of canal plugs and ear hooks, easy to get a good, secure fit. Better than 95% of the market, cheaper than Beats. Some folks swear by bone conduction headphones, since your ears remain open and uncovered, but I've never tried them, they're kinda pricy compared to most sport ear buds, and I don't know how secure they'd be when skating.

This underground car park where you practice, is this in you own appartment building or do you just dive into a public car park? I've been looking for a place for my winter practice but I'm afraid to be kicked out of a public car park

The Eaton Centre is quite empty and security is reasonable. Just keep moving and you should be fine. In the next vid or two I'll actually show a super empty, creepy, garage on Spadina you might love.

I literally got kicked out of a huge, practically empty outdoor parking lot at an outlet mall. Security dude on his go cart "There is no rollerblading on the property." Jerk. I had already been skating for over an hour on said property for a car show. *DUMB jerk. 🙄
