I am about to turn 49 and my kids are 13 and 10. I am JUST NOW getting to the point of seeing progress! I have been a slob my entire life. I am so glad you figured this out while your kids are still little because boy, mine have been digging their heels in during my transformation lol!!! You have given me so much inspiration and many ideas, so thank you! 💗

Awe I love this! I have a friend of mine that was so embarrassed of her messy house all the time that I literally took her to mine to show her that we were kindred spirits and that she NEVER had to apologise to me about that. It made her feel better to see my house in ruins too. I've been trying to do better but lately I have been letting my children learn how to clean so it of course is not "mom" clean anymore.

I’m so glad you’ve catalogued your journey! I’m a FlyBaby and basically started out with a house just like yours. I’ve begun by modifying the WHB hour so I do a little each day and work on routines, plus some Zone decluttering when/if I can. It’s been just a week, and already the difference is huge. My whole family is (sadly) in awe-we can have people just pop over with no prep because the house is presentable. No more C.H.A.O.S., and I really hope to keep it that way. I’m sick of panic cleaning in my life. We still have lots of decluttering to do, and it’ll take a great amount of time to be honest. But it’s what I want to do, for sure. Anyway, I realize this video is old, but it’s new to me and I’m getting so much inspiration from you!

This made me tear up. I keep coming back to FlyLady again and again, but I can't get out of the chaos. I try. I clean every single day. Nothing gets better. I want what you have SO badly...control, a peaceful space.

The main area that keeps people from flying is they fail to declutter. The FlyLady decluttered 27 items three times a day for NINE months. You can make this happen if you declutter. I have faith in you.

Don't give up! Do you have a friend who can be objective and blunt enough to help you realize that you just have to let go of some of the clutter/accumulated stuff if you want to save yourself from continuing/worsening distress and chaos? I just started going through all sorts of "ancient" things, w the help of a guy friend (who sees sentimental value in virtually nothing). It's a very slow and sometimes painful process, but I am hopeful. I would keep curtains drawn so no one could see inside my house and would talk to people who stopped by stepping out onto my tiny porch to talk to them. It's still a mess, but less of one, and I now have window blinds and actually keep them open/up most of the time during the day, and have the front door open w just the screen door between me and the porch. I hope to make a lot more progress, and I know you can, too! I wish us all great luck and motivation!!!

The KonMarie method is helping me get rid of stuff, that I just can’t seem to let go. It sounds stupid...thanking things, but basically “breaking up” with those things. But, it makes me feel less guilty getting rid of those things. While I think she does go a bit overboard on what she says to get rid of, I have found it waaay easier to declutter using her method. Now, if I can just stop my husband from bringing other people’s crap into my house! (He has a friend who just sold his mother’s house, and there’s a lot of “good stuff” in there!) 🙄

Good job I bet it feels so much better to you. Years ago I got rid of the sock bin couldn't stand it anymore. So what I did is everybody got their own style of sock. One of the boys had plain white tube socks file another one white crew socks one person got black socks or Gold Toe socks. So technically we didn't even boldsocks anymore we just had a drawer and the dresser you just put the socks in because they all matched that solve the problem no more matching socks or mismatched socks. Personally I like my socks rolled but still it's easy because they're all the same color the kids and hubby preferred to have them just loose in their drawer which was fine.

My husband and I laugh while watching this. Because the before flylady is Me to a T that it’s comical. I am so unbelievably unorganized and the house is constantly a wreck. Even calling my mom to come help me get the house back in shape and I think, “whew, okay I’ll keep it in order this time.” And within a couple of hours it’s back to the same state. I’ve been trying to implement the whole flylady system but it’s overwhelming. So glad I found your channel I’m going to try it!

If you can get to an ikea they have a shelf unit called hyllis for $20 each. They are metal and take about 15 minutes to put together, you can also bolt them together to make a longer unit. I think that they would be great for your laundry area because each shelf can hold up to 50 pounds.

Don’t get inspired, get busy. Fly lady is based on 15 minutes and Zone cleaning. We just have to put on our cleaning shoes and put in the time. I find myself getting easily distracted - start in room One, go to another to either get something or put in that room and then start a chore in room Two. 🙃🤪 Not judging, I need to re-embrace Flylady system.

After we had a house fire (due to a refrigerator that caught on fire in the middle of the night!), I had to list literally more than a thousand household items, their original prices, when I bought them, etc., so we could be reimbursed by the insurance company. That was when i realized we had too much stuff. I’ve always liked getting rid of stuff but now I buy a LOT LESS! It helps that our two daughters are living on their own now (one at grad school and the other at college/work). Really really think carefully before you buy stuff to go around your home. Do you REALLY need it? I found that mostly I do not!

If you don’t use it lose it. If you don’t need it don’t buy it. I have put 5 , 30 gallon trash bags of clothes into the recycle pickup for people to use. Minimal is the way to go. We have all spent tons of money over the years on things that weren’t necessary. I’m guilty as charged 🤦🏼‍♀️

@bitrudder3792
@bitrudder3792 5 жыл бұрын
@@SnicklesKidsShow A leaf blower? Well that's a new twist on "flying!" I love it! But you can do this, you know...and if you feel stuck in the process, pamper yourself with a beverage or a tub bath and your thoughts - on paper or not - and envision the way through. I imagine it is different for everyone and even for different kinds of stuff. I had a lot of stuff that would cost more to sell than to give away, but I was sentimental - so I wrote the cutest, cleverest "ads" in the local free-share group to find homes for things that would otherwise be dumped in the trash by charities. I found a woman doing dog rescue who was delighted to take a crib mattress marketed as a large dog bed, lol. String lights with plastic lobsters on them. A priests' shirt. All kinds of odd things. I waited until I was depressed and a little angry to get rid of other things. I envisioned a better wardrobe and bought a couple of nicer pieces before I purged my closet enthusiastically. When staying with a friend as a house-guest, I felt there was no room for me because of all the "decor." Then it was easy to purge my own small, spare guest space. I got a pad of big graph paper and made paper "furniture" of all we had and rearranged things throughout the house - and suddenly it was easy to see that I couldn't have a spacious-feeling space that was easy to walk through if I didn't get rid of some pieces. The graph paper doesn't lie unless you measure incorrectly. I've often used the "group and conquer" method - similar to the Kon Mari method in which you gather similar things together and see what you have duplicates of. I did that in our garage when planning wall-mounted storage and it is so much easier to function there now. I'm using the same method to deal with paperwork and older computers and software that got disorganized with some filing cabinet changes and stash-n-dash behavior and old-fashioned procrastination. In order to get clarity, I have had to break the Flylady rule about only getting out what you can put away in 15 minutes. But though it is taking a number of months (not continuously, I need enough energy and the right mindset to work on it effectively and I don't have that energy/mindset continuously), breaking this rule has saved me from the reason it hasn't gotten done in the past: out of sight, out of mind. I love how you said "I dream of the day I get control over my home." If you start by picturing clearly what you DO want, it is easier to let go of whatever doesn't fit that scenario.

My house has rooms FULL of junk. Not always bad stuff, a lot are things that are still good but we don't use. It's disgusting and I wish it wasn't that way. My mom has been basically hoarding stuff for as long as I remember and it has effected me to the point that I can't keep my own spaces clean. Right now, I'm living in a college dorm, but my room at home is so so messy with clothes and stuff all over. Lately, I've been getting into minimalism and such, so I'm excited to get to clean up my room and hopefully keep it that way.

I think that is awesome you're trying to embrace minimalism I wish I would have embraced it before starting a family. I come from a family of pack rats I use the word pack rats because hoarders just sounds scary. I think all of us have struggle letting go I wish I would have accumulated so many things to begin with in my life. I've made a lot of great changes doing really good a couple years ago but so Since then has crept back in. I did find a system that worked great for me but then I went and had another baby and need to reach week things and restart. Just work on you and your stuff. You can do it whether you come from a hoarding background or not. embrace the simplicity now it will make your life a whole lot easier as time goes on!

Fly Lady Diane sent me here today! She and her videos have changed...my life. Nice to see a fellow Canadian on the team (your accent!). If anyone reading this is now walking out of rooms overwhelmed (I see you crying... been there) and in despair, please be assured your situation *is* rescuable 😊. Watch Diane in Denmark's 31 day series and implement her gentle and daily suggestions and you'll get there. And of course keep watching Steph here too - proof that the Fly Lady System works. You stated that you hated the bookshelf in the living room... Hang it in the pantry or pop it under the hanging shelf tucked in the back corner. It would be a great way to get stuff organized and off the floor. Or hang it in your laundry room and have a lost sock bin, hangers, cleaners , softeners, and seasonal wear. Or use the shelf in your entry way to organize kids shoes, adult shoes, extra baby bag, and kids school gear. In our home we have a basket with each person's initials that holds one pair of shoes , one pair of sandals, and several pairs of socks. This makes getting out the door easier in the mornings. If you hang a lovely set of hooks for you adults, then hang one that is three feet off the ground so little ones can start learning that they need to help by hanging their own stuff up. This is my first video and I'm subscribing to watch how you grow!!!!

The sock basket! Consider getting a different color or fit of sock for each kid. My son has black ankle socks, my daughter has white ankle socks, my toddler has white short crew cut socks. This eliminates matching, and if you lose one, you'll never know because there are plenty more like it in the drawer. My kids can sort and fold their own laundry and they know whose socks are whose easily and can throw them in their drawer.

This is the first Flylady video I have seen. I have no idea what the Flylady system is, so most of it was lost on me in terms of translation, or the process of how the system worked in each room she showed. Sometimes it pays to do a little recap of what is being addressed, so there is a context as we watch the videos. Some of us were not here from the beginning.

Little by little is the key! Every time I tried to implement her whole system at once, I got overwhelmed, threw up my hands and walked away. Then something FINALLY clicked, and I started just swishing and swiping the bathroom. Then I started setting a timer. Not always doing exactly what Flylady would do, but doing SOMETHING for 15 minutes -- usually the thing that was bugging me most at the time. Gradually I added in more elements of her system, and over time, they're making such a HUGE difference!

Lori G. I sort by color and weight which sounds complicated but it's not. Heavy stuff like towels and jeans in one load. Light weight anything in another. For both, every color except white, beige and baby pink in another. Cold gentle for everything except sheets and towels. Air dry black, delicate and dry clean only. The only thing you can't put in a machine is wool, angora, silk and especially not RAYON. That shrinks more than wool.

I had learn how to be very organized in USAF....so my org style went from chaos to creatively organized for 23+ years ....then after a long distance move back to home on the east coast, a long grueling divorce and several,serious long term family illnesses...i have never really recovered from the move 6 years ago! I unpacked almost everything...then family member become very ill...and another grave illness...and every time that happen d -all work in my house stopped...boxes everywhere, boxes half empty, piles on top of piles trying tp look for something specific...became a chaotic nightmare ....that i am just now getting back to where i hope i can finally get it all completely unpacked and put away! And it is so true that when stuff is effectively organized it ssoo much more peaceful! Congrats on all u have accomplished!

I think that being messy isn't problematic per se. It is what you are feeling and how it plays out in the mind. Shame, guilt etc social isolation, feelings of worthlessness and so on. My favourite lecture is on two people eating a donut. One has an eating disorder, the other is just eating a donut. Can you tell which is which? My mess problem is really the person with the eating disorder as it eats away at me. I have all kinds of stuff going on in my head which you cannot see. I actually read a book in two days since starting flylady. I had most of my stuff done by nine am and was free to read, guilt free for the first time in a decade. Thank you secret slob. ❤🌈🇨🇦❤🌈🇨🇦🌹

When I was in grad school at age 35 with 2 grade school youngsters and a traveling spouse I devised a system to never leave a room without checking for and taking whatever was in that room that should be in the room I was going to (if that makes sense?). I had to be efficient with my time in order to attend class, study, keep house, do kid things and be there for hubby. For example, if I was coming downstairs from my bedroom I brought the laundry basket, if it was full, to the laundry room and immediately started a load of laundry. Face it, much laundry with modern fabrics and detergent does not need to be sorted if washed on cool or warm water. I did sort heavy clothes like jeans. While I was in the laundry room I checked the dryer and folded clothes ready for the basket to return upstairs. I left the return trip laundry basket at the foot of the stairs where the next household member going upstairs took the basket and its contents to a designated bedroom for the owner to put away. When I left the house for the garage I maybe took the trash out then too. If I was reading the newspaper and finished it I placed it next to the door leading to the recycling container. Simple steps like this helped me stay calmer during stressful times like exam periods. It was a constant vigilance of what doesn’t belong here at this time, should I take it where I am going? Gradually rooms became mostly uncluttered and organized. I realize now as I am distracted by so many electronic gadgets how efficient I was then.
