I also modified the flylady zones to fit my house - I have 8 zones, and I just loop through them. So yes, I only hit each zone ever 2 months, but my house is still much cleaner than it was before!

I’ve done FlyLady for years and although I don’t do all her components, the morning and evening routines are ingrained and happen without thought. My house can be crazy but the essential things happen..bathrooms clean, laundry, dishes, bed made. This was motivational in the zone cleaning component. BTW, I love how you’ve decorated your little laundry area with black and white accents.

You go girl! I was impressed with the office. I had to laugh at your comment about it taking you thirty plus years to realise that cleaning in small chunks was better than blitzing the whole house. It took me about sixty years to realise that. :D

I too have physical/mental issues. Your demonstration and encouragement mean so much to me I'm tearful. I'm going to try the method. I have had flyladys book for 20 years and I'm going try to tweak it to my zones like you have. I pray to God this works for you and me too. Tomorrow is another day and I'm going to see if I can rebuild the plantation. Pray for me as I pray for you also.

Great. Fly lady is very good. I like that you are adjusting her program to fit you and your life. Best wishes. I found the more I cleaned regularly, the more tired I got of my STUFF and put a lot away so I wouldn't have to dust it. yeah.

As a newly married wife trying to take care of my first apartment I started with flylady but quickly modified it once I got daily routines down. You'll get there eventually. Fortunately I didn't have a lot of stuff then because we had no money and I moved countries when I got married. The decluttering is the key to making it easy to stay on top of daily routines and zones.

If we could all move countries before starting the fly lady system ,we could declutter so much , even better move to a dessert island we wouldn't need anything , just a basket to collect cocanuts,no zones and no clutter, definitely my idea of heaven, im off to tell husband we need to look for an island bye xx

I just discovered your channel and am definitely subscribing! I have been on an off FlyLady for years!! From living in a 1 floor house with 2 daughters in public school then highschool. Then a 2 bedroom apartment to a one bedroom apartment with just my husband. I worked full time during all these years and we were involved in sports so needless to say I failed at Fly Lady. Then we moved in with my daughter, her husband and 5 kids (teenagers) My husband was suffering from Alzheimer's so I spent the majority of my time keeping up with him. He was hospitalised and then was moved into a continuous care facility and I moved into an apartment not far away. He passed away 2 months later and it has been almost 6 years that I have lived on my own in a 2 bedroom apartment. Now I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis in both knees, left hip and right hand! My apartment looks like a hoarders haven but it isn't! Just needed that push and a reminder that FlyLady times and zones and can be adjusted to work for my capabilities and health issues!! You just brightened my day! Thank you!😉

Hi, I'm new to your channel and I just love you and your personality. You're so relatable and easy to watch. I'm finishing up my last parts of dealing with my double mastectomy so I'm getting back into my routine and rhythm of life. Breast cancer sucks but I'm here and so, so thankful. I LOVE to clean and organize, your home is like a dream to me. It's just so relaxing and calming for me to clean. I listen to my music and clean for hours and hours. I have just always loved to clean, I do my sister's house for her too. I'm weird lol. I also love to do yard work! I like to mow, plant my flowers just anything outside. Landscaping is so much fun, I like to get creative with my plants and flowers. So, now I'm going to binge watch your other videos lol. So happy I found your channel, your just what I needed thank you. And...I'm in Texas too, I live in Lewisville. The weather has been so weird but it's Texas lol.

Great video- I started by watching Cass’s channel “clutterbug” to find my organization style. I also had the rest of my family take her clutter bug test just so I knew how/why they kept their spaces in the home the way they did. Thru Cass (author of clutterbug) I was introduced to Dana K White’s channel “A Slob Comes Clean”. Her container method of keeping/organizing items really helped my teenager understand we only have so much room in our home. LOL Then I began watching Dawn’s channel “The Minimal Mom”. She is great also but I know I will never be a minimalist.

For folks not yet up to zone cleaning: here's one new habit for everyone in house to adopt: See something on the floor? Pick it up! Learned this from my ol Nana. She would even pick up stray threads from the carpet as she spent time in a room. Keeps you physically active, incrementally keeps space at "tidy enough" between weekly reset/monthly zone clean.

Hi Shannon! I just finished watching your Q&A video. You have no idea how much you have helped droves of us who struggle everyday. You are such a blessing! I have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. This year has been especially tough because I’ve been forced to stay in bed most of this year suffering from extreme exhaustion. I still have Christmas up and haven’t been able to clean house since Christmas Eve. 🤦‍♀️ I’ve never celebrated St Patty’s Day with Santa Claus but here goes! 😂 You talked in the video about your friend who you asked to help clean your home who hurt you so terribly. It broke my heart. Friends are there to lift us up and provide love and support. Please know this. Her response was a direct reflection of her-not you. Something had to be going on with her (or sadly, lacking within her) because her response makes zero sense. You are such a lovely person, inside and out, and you did not deserve being treated that way. Not by her, not by anyone. You are a rock star to me and I’m sure tons of others! I cannot thank you enough for your channel. I pray God will continue to give you the energy, time and strength you need to keep going-in life and on KZbin!! ❤️

You did a great job! I continually searched for a cleaning system that worked and I tried everything. When I found FlyLady it was a lightbulb moment for me. I finally found a system that worked for me and I've been doing it for over 5 years. You'll find the zones will get easier, especially if you've decluttered, because they're not as dirty and it's even quicker to clean. Keep up the great work.

Just started watching your videos!! I love you!! You are funny, and personable!! Your makeup is professional!! I am way overweight, have Diabetes, bad knee and hip and chronic Bipolar. I am 67 but in my heart I am 40!! I have just lost 15 pounds by smaller portions and very little sweets or potatoes! Got 70 more to go.. will be slow. Today hubs and I cleaned rugs, dusted, vacuumed, cleaned microwave, .he cleaned the entire vacuum cleaner, ran dishwasher with vinegar, ran stove for 3 hours to self clean and the washing machine to self clean for 4 hours. I cooked an easy dinner and of course cleaned kitchen as soon as we finished eating. Our kids are grown and live out of state. Keep going but give yourself time to rest. One zone a week sounds good but your zone 1 was so much at one time!! You must have a huge home. Blessings to you!! You are awesome!! I follow Jessie Christine and Cleaning Therapy with Jenny.

Like you, I find FlyLady a bit overwhelming, despite having been introduced to her many years ago. I like Steph’s modifications (The Secret Slob), Dana K. White (A Slob Comes Clean), & Diane in Denmark. Having the daily routines is key! Zones have always been the bane of my existence, but I’m giving them another whirl. You are killing yourself doing SO much in the zone-of-the-week. You finished in 2 days. I think that the idea is to work a set amount of time daily all week, but leave what you don’t get done until the next trip through the zone. I enjoy your music & your humor & honesty. I have no business sitting here watching you clean when I should be up & doing something! :).

I have been "Domestically Challenged" my whole life so I hear you! I am 72 and live alone in an apartment so you would think it would be clean...nope...cuz like you I have a body that now tells me off when I do anything strenuous and I have Osteoarthritis in both knees, my left hip and my right hand. I actually started following FlyLady at about the same age as you are now... Ironically I heard about her through my one stepdaughter...her father was 10 years older than me so she was only 18 years younger than me. I also watch The Secret Slob. You are down to earth and you adapt FlyLady to fit your body's ability to handle so much and no more! Your comment about looking yourself in the mirror at the end reminded me of Mel Robbins ...she says every morning look yourself in the mirror and give yourself a "high five". High fives give you a dopamine boost!

Your thought process is on point when you noted about maintaining a routine. The key to any successful outcome is consistency and as you note correctly, a Monster Clean is great, but if its not maintained consistently, you'll find yourself right back at Monster Cleaning Days again in no time. What I have found true is consistent cleaning offers maintenance, that your home doesn't get out of hand, the small but daily investment of time and effort works and it eliminates the need to letting your home go and then finding out when you do want it clean you have to put in hours and major effort. You're definitely on the right track, well done and all the best.

Great job, I am not a subscriber but I check-in from time to time. You mentioned people gave good suggestions so I hope you don’t mind me adding one or two. For your rest days and or any days maybe sort your towels and beddings in a separate bin and have your gals (and son when he is a little older) do that laundry once or twice a week. For folding the sheets my siblings and I used to play a game called “patty cake” and that is how my mum taught us to fold sheets and large items until we could do it on our own. With time hopefully they will learn to do their own laundry also. And for maintaining motivation, the second suggestion is a check list or calendar “in the laundry room” for tracking the days they complete the sheets and towels including folding and maybe a reward for each month they actually complete the laundry and folding. In the meantime We are all Cheering you on, Take as many rest days as you need and as time goes on hopefully you all will find that balance that works for your family! Be Well.

I relate on so many levels, from extreme clutter issues, spoons, depression cleans, and marathon cleaning. I've never been able to fully take on the flylady method, but I LOVE the theory and think it can be life changing, especially for us spoonies. I know I’m watching this video late … but the whole thing about FlyLady is that she DOESN’T overwhelm … BECAUSE she recommends to do JUST the 15 minutes. She doesn’t doesn’t expect, or even recommend, to do all of the possible tasks in the week’s zone. That way you won’t get tired … you’re still inspired … and you actually look forward to doing your 15 minutes the next day. That would have been nice to see. …Kim

Thanks for the great inspiration! I started the fly lady system, but fell off the wagon before I got to round 2 with zone cleaning. You have inspired me to try again. I like the small successes the flylady give you instead of the failures of trying to be perfect at everything. Thank you again for the inspiration.

Hey hey. Your video just randomly popped up for me. Love watching!! I’ve been married almost 14 years and I’m just figuring out what works for me. The Secret Slob is my game changer. Couldn’t get through the day without her. Also, the FlyLady says to declutter first bit that meant to be done as a whole. Go through your house and declutter EVERYTHING then you can start zone cleaning. It will make some cleaning sooo much nicer to do and will help with the mental part of it all. I promise it will work out better that way. I tried zone cleaning several times before I decluttered and it did not work at all. Was taking too long to zone clean and I got frustrated. Can t wait to watch more if your videos while I’m folding laundry, doing dishes or making dinner😘😘

I added some beautiful peel and stick tiles to a small wall in my bathroom. It has the look if stone mixed with brushed brass pieces scattered throughout. The brushed brass matches the hardware. It was so simple and very low cost. People have actually gasped over how good it looks.

I discovered The Secret Slob about a month ago. Like you, I deal with chronic health issues, mostly pain related. I am also a stay at home homeschooling mom. Today I was trying to find a video to motivate me. Thank you. I look forward to seeing more!

I love your idea for changing up the timing of the zones. I have tried following flylady before and it frustrated me when I only had a day or two for the last zone. I think I am stealing this idea and going to try and figure out something that will work for me. I have decluttered and tidy but suck at keeping up on the deep cleaning. Thanks for keeping it real. I don’t need to see perfect, I need to see reality! Love your videos!

As a spoonie, the flylady makes so much sense to me too. One thing that helped is being okay with taking 2 weeks for a zone sometimes. If you have a few bad days in a week and can only handle your morning/evening routines then the zones get the shaft. The basic routines do enough to keep my house from looking too crazy, and once I started, my family kind of got used to the order in the house- the weirdest thing happens where they can keep it going on your bad days. They might not be wiped perfectly but my counters don't generally have things that stay on them longer than necessary.

Hi Shannon! Wonderful job on zone 1. Just remember to pace yourself. I’ve learned that a timer is your best friend. And not everything on your list needs done. I’m trying to break my perfection habit and still find myself going back to marathon mode. Rely on the check lists as guides not as everything needs completed. Sometimes I comeback to an item as a 2-5 minute hotspot if I’m up for it. I’m trying to break the habit of saying this will take too long by using a timer and I’m always surprised what I got finished. Way to go girl! / I didn’t notice your pants at all. I just notice how stunningly beautiful you are! 😃 / Someday you will need to do a video about what you make. As another crafty friend, I always appreciate other artsy people’s creations! Hugs! Em. Keep going!! 🌸❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️. Ps your welcome mat is hilarious! 🤣

I started Fly Lady in January. Just a friendly suggestion, the dress to shoes really helps! I have a pair of “inside” tennis shoes, and stopped wearing my slippers. It also helped my back. Keep up the great work!

Shannon! Do you have any idea how inspiring you are?? There's something so magical about all those check marks! I love love love you and your channel! I know I keep saying it whenever I comment, but I mean it from the bottom of my heart, and I am going to keep telling you! I've had an exhausting day and I told my husband I was going to sit down and watch "my Shannon" because I needed some time to chill with a friend who wasn't asking anything of me other than to say something kind to myself. You are incredible 💓 Keep it up girl!
