It's relative. If you compare Gaza now vs Gaza oct 6th 2023, of course Gaza was better prior. However these shouldn't be the only 2 choices. It shouldn't be settle for occupation/blockade with no self sovereignty or control of your own future. No country should have control of water, electricity, fuel, water, etc over another population that has no representation, no say or vote in the govt that controls this. Let's not forget either the Gazan population are mostly children or very young adults who were not old enough or even alive when Hamas won a plurality in their last election. I think it's important to also put in context Netanyahu and current Israeli govt supported keeping the group they deemed terrorist, Hamas, in control of Gaza in order to make sure there was never a palestinian state. Also in the last day or so Times of Israel reported that Netanyahu and his cabinet blackmailed the defense secretariat in order to change protocols just hours after he was warned of a possible Hamas attack and hours before the Oct 7th attack.

This should have begun with the people of Gaza dancing in the streets and the parade of hostages. I find it odd that none of the kids asked why all the explosions were happening. They live with a shattered economy and limited employment (digging tunnels doesn't count) continues to add another mouth to feed. I watched a documentary about the school system in Gaza and 4th grade boys were being taught how to clean an AK-47. Almost half the teenage male population at one time has spent month/years in a detention center for throwing rocks at Israeli border soldiers. Yet they want peace.

I agree with you. Except for the vacating the lands: Israel brought out all its people from Gazza in 2005, and we see what was created there as a result of non-control. Israel controls West Bank just for the safety of Israel, it has no benefits from spending resources on that. Only the safety.
