Back in October 2020 during my senior of high school got my copy of Xenoblade 1 after I beat it few days later got xenoblade 2 once they xenoblade 3 was announced I got very excited when it was reveal and immediately pre order it and was so exited when I finally got my copy

I love this game so much. Previously I had played both Xenoblade 1 & 2, while I enjoyed my time with the game, I wasn't super into the story or gameplay (For reference, I still really enjoyed them both, just wasn't as invested as I hoped). Fast forward to last year I saw Xenoblade 3 come out and while it was on my to buy and play list I never got around to it, till about 3 weeks ago. I saw at my local game store the game was $47 (normally $80) and was like "damn, I still wanna play this game". I played the game and I loved it, I was fully invested in it, to the point that my most anticipated game of the year Pikmin 4 was put on the back burner till I finished Xeno 3. I put about 60 hours in over the span of 2 weeks and now the game is one of my favorite games of all time. Even though my favorite game of all time is still XC2, I have a Google Sheet and a whole bunch of scores for an assortment of categories that proves that if I were more objective, then this would be my favorite. I love the game and the series so much, it is insane to think that it has already been a year.

My first Xenoblade game was 2. I picked it up somewhat shortly after release, maybe January or February of 2018 when I was starting the second semester of my first year in college. I was at that weird point in my life where I was just getting into anime, and I picked the game up knowing very little about it. Basically, I picked it up because the box art looked neat. I recall often sitting in a dark corner of the dining hall between classes playing the game (yeah, in handheld mode lol). However, I was around Chapter 4 and just... not really feeling it. I didn't outright *dislike* the game, but I felt like the story didn't seem to be going anywhere and I had some issues with some of the characters and mechanics like a lot of people do. However, I decided to just stick with the game and hope it got better. I was a college student, so money was tight; I didn't want to just drop the game and feel like I wasted 60 bucks, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna trade it in to Gamestop for a couple cents and some pocket lint. Choosing to stick with the game was one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. I fell in love with the game at the end of Chapter 6, and from there I played the game constantly until I finished it. I'm not the kind of person to play games in very long sessions, but I'm pretty sure I played through the entirety of Chapters 8, 9, and 10 in a single day. After finishing XC2, I went on to check out XC1 which I picked up on the 3DS. Yes, that seems like a weird decision because I had a Wii already; I think I went with the 3DS version because it was cheaper and I liked playing games handheld. I fell in love with that game as well, I'd say I liked it even more than 2. Over the next couple of years, I played Xenogears and Xenosaga. Xenogears became my favorite story ever told in a video game, despite it having many issues. When XCDE released, I obviously picked it up Day One. That became my favorite video game of all time. Before XCDE, I never really had a "favorite game," but after loving the 3DS version and then loving this version even more, I decided to give it that title. I was incredibly excited to see what the future had in store for the series. When those first leaks about XC3 came out from Jenna Coleman, I completely disregarded them. Nothing against Coleman, I loved her as Melia and as Clara on Doctor Who, but I figured she just didn't really know what she was talking about and that the leaks that came out immediately afterward (about the game being nearly finished and taking place in the future of both worlds) were just BS fanfiction started in response to Coleman's comments (as much as I wanted to believe they were true). I was absolutely floored when XC3 was revealed at the end of the February 2022 Direct. Not only was XC3 real, it was coming this year!? I had never been so hyped for a video game. I was heartbroken when it looked like I wouldn't be able to get a copy of the Special Edition (thanks, Nintendo). I tried during Nintendo's first attempt and failed. I tried again during the second attempt and it looked like another failure. I had pretty much given up, but just on a whim I refreshed the store page, saw they were listed as being back in stock again, and somehow managed to snag a preorder. I was so excited to play the game as soon as possible that I went and purchased another physical copy of the game from a retailer on release day while still waiting for the Special Edition to ship (which I'm glad I did, otherwise I would've had to wait a little over a week after launch day to play). It really doesn't feel like it's already been a full year since release day. I was really enjoying the game, taking my time to experience everything. Despite how hyped I was, I still tried to keep my expectations in check. I wanted the game to clow me away and become my favorite in the series, but I didn't *expect* that to happen. I'm the kind of person who never goes into a game with absurd expectations to avoid being disappointed. However, the scene where Noah and Mio swap flutes was the moment I realized that this game might just become my favorite in the series. The rest of Chapter 4, as well as Chapters 5 and 6, solidified that belief. By the end of the game, I was slightly conflicted. I absolutely loved the game, but I wasn't sure if I liked it *more* than XCDE. Despite trying to keep my expectations in check, I was still slightly disappointed by the execution of Chapter 7 and how some things were explained (or not explained). It wasn't until my second playthrough that I made the decision that I liked XC3 even more than XCDE. I think that the reason why was because re-experiencing all of the things XC3 did right reminded me how much the good outweighed the bad. It's by no means a perfect game; I would argue it is more flawed than XC1/DE, but hits highs that go so far beyond what the latter is able to achieve. If I had a nickel for every time Monolithsoft delivered something Xenoblade-related significantly earlier than expected, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Future Redeemed was such a phenomenal conclusion to the Klaus storyline. Again, I don't think the story DLC was perfect, but what it achieves despite the short runtime far outweighs the flaws. I've never been more excited for the future of a franchise. Xenoblade has had a massive impact on my life, and it's crazy to me that it all started because I kept on playing a game I was losing interest in. thanks for coming to my ted talk
