The Nike Mercurial has history, a lot of it, and it has heritage, expectations. There are a lot of things that people want from a Nike Mercurial, Vapor or Superfly, especially in the elite models. This boot, doesn't offer a lot of those things.

This is the Mercurial Vapor 15 Elite, the Mercurial Vapor 16 Elite and Superfly 10 Elite are on the way, quite literally they will be with us in a matter of days, of course I'll have a review on those as soon as I can. However, I haven't yet reviewed what is for now, at least for these last few days, the current generation of Nike Mercurial. Considering how much I've worn these, and considering how much I recommend them to people, even though the new 2024 Mercurial is on the way, it seemed like they needed their own showcase.
Today is a little bit of a discussion on what is a mercurial, what does it mean to want and wear a mercurial, and if these fit that mould, and if they don't is that maybe a good thing?

As someone who was never able to wear Vapor’s until the 13, I found these 15s to be really disappointing. The last definitely has more volume (especially around the midfoot and heel opening) but the upper material doesn’t have the wrap/pliability of the 13 so it ended up being a sloppy fit for me. The toe box also never broke in enough to ease the cramped feeling so the overall experience was weird. Wide (almost too wide) in some areas and cramped/uncomfortable in others.

Definitely might end up being too wide for some. I take your point vs the 13, however, I will say, that's like comparing a regular good premier league player to CR7, that Vapor 13 is absolutely next level amazing. Adore it.

The 15 is the best boot I ever wore tied with the f50 2014, the lock down,the volume,the thinnest, air zoom, but I do gotta say the 13 are a bit more comfortable on the touch but the comfort goes away once the sole plate starts splitting and the heel liner decends from its original spot but touch is very comfortable like the f50

i have the new vapor 16, old f50 and new f50 elite and i had the vapor 15 and for comfort the new vapor 16 is by far the best i ever had and i currently use vapor 16 with AG ( in my opinion ) is better i can use it on FG too with 0 problems, but my f50 elite is lovely too, last year i had a puma future and i was dispointed because they said its for both AG/FG and i had problems on AG :c but its my opinion not all like it :D but i prefer to use the new vapor it felt like im running on sand with socks

@@cptpawn7035 oh man that Puma Ultra is 100% NOT for AG pitches. They're full of crap with that claim! I do agree that the AG Merc is a great FG/AG option.

Ive used mercurials for over 10 years and these are the first ive ever been disappointed in. Vapor 13 was the best merc ever and its gotten worse and worse with every version since. Ive switched to Predator laceless now and theyre better than both the 14 and 15, wont be trying the 16.

13 was incredible I'll give you that. I still think this generation is an excellent boot, really very good. I must say I also prefer it to the predator laceless. But, everyone is different and as long as you've found something you like that's all that matters. Rock those laceless preds 🔥

I think this is objectivley a very good boot and more people will be able to enjoy due to its wider fit and larger volume. However.... This is definitely the least mercurial mercurial ever. As a speed boot, its too wide imo, the studs in the forefoot should be more aggressive, and the snap back and repsonsivness of the soleplate is honestly lacking. Also the zoom unit is more of a comfort element than a speed element, but unfortunatley its not marketed that way. Also they just dont look that premium imo compared to prior models like superfly 4, vapor 8, 9 etc which looked like they were cutting edge and ahead of their time. As a hardcore speeboot lover i dont really like them and i skipped this generation, and tbh the next gen looks like it could be a return to form. Great review as always btw.

Yeah I think I mentioned most of your points in the video, I generally agree if you're a hardcore speed boot fan this probably isn't what you're looking for, but objectively it's a quite excellent boot. Looking forward to the upcoming generation, from what I've seen and heard so far they look to be excellent, remains to be seen if they have the hardcore elements you are looking for.

For many years I used to wear Adidas Copa and I want to switch to those boots. I wear in Adidas 44 in Europe number should I go the same size in these?

I tend to wear the same UK size across Nike and Adidas boots which means that an Adidas 44 would be a 9.5, to get a 9.5 in Nike you would need an EU 44.5. unless you're talking about the copa mundial that's very different

Have you tried the AG-pro Elite version of the Vapor 15s? I found that it ran small compared to my Vapor 14 FGs… to the point of never breaking in properly. I’ve actually found all the latest gen Ag-pro boots to fit much tighter… but yes, objectively this is a wonderful boot!

I can't say I have I have only tried the FG and the 2 SG variations. I always expect some kind of difference on different tooling but for it to be that dramatic is very interesting, might have to look out for a pair to test.

@@BootWizard yeah, my theory is also the tooling. There’s a lip that makes it about 1/4 size smaller… I also wear my boots pretty tight so there’s not much room for error! I think it’s such a great boot that I put my foot through the wringer trying to wear it. Should have returned it, but I’m such a solid 9 in Nike that I refused to believe it was the wrong size… I’ll probably try to get a discounted pair of the 15 FGs and try the 16 Ag 1/2 size up.

@@Vikp684 definitely worth waiting and seeing if they change the tooling for the AG on the 16, new AG might mean different sizing again!!! Just to complicate things 😂. Yeah I like to get my boots as tight as possible, but I feel like I'm always 1/4 size out when it comes to Nike boots, maybe I need a pair of AG Vapor 15!!!!! Problem solved!

durability is tough to comment on, it's very variable depending on how you play, how often, where, how you store your boots, how you clean them, the surface you play on, the size of your feet, how you run. It's a lot. All I can say is that I've not had any problems

Hello, i wear 40 2/3 on adidas crazyfast plus , is the same size on mercurial vapor 16?

A 40 2/3 doesn't exsit in Nike sizes as they size differently. The closest equivalent is going to be a 41

IMO Vapor X> Vapor 13 > Vapor 11 > Vapor 14> Vapor 15

@@BootWizard the 15 strays to far from the vapor formula it almost feels like a pro model and not an elite in terms of the upper and touch on the ball , the air zoom is the only thing memorable about it imo, while the 14 feels like a wider more generally appealing version of the vapor 11 🤩

@@cgg8997 I see the argument for the 15 straying too far, I don't think it feels like a pro though, and as far as a boot goes I think the 15 is better, but I will accept the argument it's not as Mercurial or as speed boot as people might want.

Question, wich football boots would you recommend if the phantom gx2 were too narrow mostly from toebox and also too little volume. Furon v7 (wide) were perfect fit but on ag the soleplate was too aggressive. Really strugling to find a great pair.

If the GX2 are too narrow then I'd say you really need to be looking at NB wide fit (Tekela for example) or looking at something classic leather that will stretch. Try Adler.

They just don’t look “fast” I don’t know, the shape of the boots look like a pair of tiempos. Meaning wider. Look bulky. They felt nice. But they just don’t feel like vapors. I changed to the x crazyfast+ and the new f50s

@@BootWizard 100%. I don’t know I had the same ones as you, the black ones with yellow accents. But I don’t know what it was visually they looked bulkier than any of the vapors. Maybe it’s because they changed the shape to appeal to almost everyone? But my favourite vapors were the, 8,9,10,11’s Personal favourites are the 8’s

i have a question because of my foot shape with the mercurials, basically i have a pair of academy mercurials and they still fit well on me even though they are a size down and i have kind of a wide foot shape, and im wondering if the elites are tighter than the academy's

The short answer is yes, the elites are going to fit narrower than the academy

I haven't tried the 16 yet, but they're built on the same last, so, assuming the gripknit is softer than the Vaporposit+ then they should actually be the same shape but slightly wider.
