There’s a small place called Jay’s In Langhorne, PA. It’s about 20-30 minutes outside of the city. They have a beer dip cheesesteak on a pretzel roll that’s pretty amazing. Their regular cheesesteaks are great, too, but I really recommend that beer dip.

When cheese steak places chop up the steak they are attempting to hide gristle. By serving their steaks as slices (not chopped) you are assured a quality cut of meat.

You have to check out Carmen’s in the Reading Terminal. Probably my favorite Cheesesteak spot in Philly and by far the most underrated. I think that it has the best flavor. Joe’s, Jim’s, D’Alessandro’s and Angelo’s are all top notch. Donkey’s place is really good too but it’s not a traditional cheesesteak (just because it’s on a Kaiser roll). I used to love Max’s too but it got shut down lol

You have to try Leo’s Steak Shop now that you know what a quality steak tastes like. It’s in Folcroft which is a little out of the way, but my Dad and I found it when we were looking for a place by the airport. It’s 10min from the airport, and now our favorite spot in Philly. Check it out!

I’ve had better places than Hajjis personally (was lowkey disappointed when I finally tried them), but they’re just not well known. Hajjiis is still a pretty safe bet for tourists who don’t know the city well though, like Joe’s for Pizza. Can’t recommend Halal Guys though. Most local carts are better than them at this point 😂
