Steve Rothery from Marillion - I like Stevie ray Vaughan in Bowies 1984 Let's Dance Album. I never really have much listened or cared for Stevie's work outside Bowie's Let's Dance album. Of course, Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour already listed are amongst my favourites - Too many good and some underrated guitarist out there.

Thanks for that. I've not heard of Steve Rothery - I'll check him out.I'm listening to Kayleigh right now. I've always loved what SRV did on Let's Dance. It just lights that song up, and it was already firing to begin with! I saw Rick Beato talk about Guthrie Govan the other day on his channel. Man, that guy is one amazing player. It's worth watching the video (called "rock's scariest player" I think).

Great suggestions, although I don't know Thomas Hoffman. I will go listen to him now. And that's exactly what I was hoping for, to open some ears to some "new" guitarists! Thanks!

TBH I'd never really thought of him as a guitarist. But then that's the whole point of this exercise. I'm going to look him up now!

Mark Knopfler for me. He proved that great guitar skills can trump crappy vocals 😁

Agreed. Absolutely. I love his playing always but what he did on brothers in arms was understated mastery.
