Reduce, reuse, recycle is actually the order of importance. Restoring and improving an older decently built piece of equipment is a more environmentally friendly way to go when it makes sense. Good job.

One fix I started doing years ago is on the wheel hubs back side you will find a flat spot cast into the hub. I drill and tap the hub and install a grease zerk. I pump the hub full of grease till I see it come out through the front bearing. I know it is full. Every year I put a couple pumps of grease into the hub and I have never had an issue with any hub. Works for me. Keep up the good videos.

Doug, great video thought you would of powered coated the rims but heck they turned out just fine. Like the idea of using an old coat rack👍. Juat domt know how that por is going to hold up on gas over time. I build pressure vessels in the past and the reason for it leaking at the brackets is because they don't have a pad underneath them for vibrations so it doesn't tear or compromise the tank it self! Can't wait to see the new splitter

Best way to stop that crack is to "mouse hole" both ends. Seems counterintuitive but drill a hole at each end of the crack. Then when you weld it closed you don't have a stress riser at the end of the crack. The hole distributes the stress and reduces it to something the metal can tolerate. We do this for cracks in bridge beams and it is a structurally acceptable solution.

Doug, what a nice restoration you are doing here! Really enjoying this series. That Tecumseh will last for years. But if you ever need to replace it, it should be a breeze (a red and white Honda GX would look swell on there!) One tip: before investing in a carb, do a simple compression check. Three major things you need, fuel, compression, spark. Compression could be the death sentence for an old engine if it’s piston/rings/cylinder walls. But it worked out so good on ya! Can’t wait for the continuation and seeing this thing get fully Douged up!

Nice progress so far. Few things… 1) what is operational temps of the tank sealer? Hate to see it breakdown from 150-200*f hydraulic oil and plug suction strainer. 2) use slight vacuum in hydraulic tank while welding. Vac pulls in weld and shield gas. Works really well repairing snowmobile heat exchangers 3) return mufflers and pick up a tractor muffler. Better yet discard old engine. A 212cc predator engine runs quieter, smoother, less fuel, easier starting, more powerful, and best of all low oil cut off. 4) is there a log lift in the works??
@OneEyeCustoms Жыл бұрын

I've used zip lock bags for bearing packers for years, turn one inside out, put your hand in it, get a handful of grease and the bearing. Flip the bag around smear the grease. When it's packed open the bag and put it on the axle. If done right you can have perfectly clean hands and only 1 greasy zip lock bag of waste. That's my way anyway.

Fantastic work as always Doug. You're right about doing the things that make it easier in the long run for maintenance, etc. I immediately started wondering how you found the thread pitch for that oil drain modification you made so that you could install a section of pipe and that elbow. It always seems like to me that when I want to do a modification like that, getting that info is like pulling teeth. I'm scrounging Lowes or Home D for something to make it work and end up paying $30-40 to arrive at a solution that should've been $5.
