This took me a week to finally get working. Here are the things I missed in hopes that it will help you. 1. I needed to go to Home Depot and buy a roll of white wire. I needed 14 gauge. But you might need 12 gauge. If you aren’t sure, buy 12. 2. Make sure your wire nut can handle all the white wires together. 3. The two black wires might need to be switched, so if you aren’t getting power one way, try switching them. Apparently on a normal single pole switch it doesn’t matter so sometimes the load wire and the hot wire are attached backwards. Hope that helps anyone else struggling with this!

Thanks for the video - it was a life (or at least sanity) saver. I have one additional piece of advice for people installing FEIT switches into a multi-gang box. In my 3-gang box, there old switches did not use the neutral (white) wires so all of the white wires (seven total) were twisted into one giant bundle. Your video saved me from the impossible (for me) task of figuring out which of the white wires to use. The problem not addressed in your video was that the bundle of wire was already so big that I could not manage to get three more into it! After several attempts, I eventually decided to add just one more short piece of 14-guage wire to the giant bundle. I then twisted the other end of that wire with three more short connector wires so that I had one for each of the three FEIT dimmers that I installed in the box. Worked fine and allowed me to continue without trying to bend that giant bundle of wires. As I am sure you know, a bundle of seven 14-Guage wires is REALLY hard to bend. Best to just leave them at the back of the box.

Very well done and organized video. My only caveat, to place the switch in pairing mode you need only press and hold for 10 seconds on the on/off switch. thats far easier than running back to your panel and throwing the breaker.

get a contactless current detector like www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-Non-contact-Tester-with-Screw-driver-NCS-8904R/206177753 remove the switch plate cover and with the switch in the off position, test for current on either wire. Only one wire should show current, that is your hot, or line/source/supply, the other will be your load. Turn off the breaker before you do anything else. then test again to be sure nothing is hot before proceeding. remove old switch marking wires appropriately and proceed. Hire an electrician if unsure.
@TonyHarlan2 жыл бұрын
Normally, the line coming from the bottom of the blue box goes to your breaker, and the lines running out of the top go to your light bulbs. If they are both coming out of the top, then you need to use a voltmeter and figure out where the electricity is coming from with the breaker on.

You only connect a single ground wire and a single neutral wire to the dimmer, however the instruction manual has 2 ground wires and 2 neutral wires going into the dimmer. Any reason for that difference? Thanks!
@OneHourSmartHome4 жыл бұрын
The manual is showing you maintaining a continuous circuit with the neutral wires and a continuous circuit with ground wires. In this video we do that but we complete the circuit using the wire nuts wired in the box with the neutral wires wired together in a bundle with a wire nut and the ground wires wired together in a bundle with a wire nut. We then use a single extension wire from each bundle of wires to the terminals on the light switch. This allows us to wire the device using wire loops on the side rather than back wiring the device.

I just had the same thing. On a set of FEIT lights it works well but it is not in another room with other brand lights. I think it is a compatibility issue. I don’t know why my switch box has 3 neutrals and 3 grounds inside. Don’t know which one should I use😂
@ninjamaster34534 жыл бұрын
The age of the house isnt the defining factor for neutral in box. Its the way the fixture is powered. Ideally the line from the breaker comes to the switch first (with a white in the box under a nut) then to fixture. But sometimes the power goes to the fixture first then to switch. The switch has 2 black (usually a black and a white taped or marked black) and breaks that line. Totally common and safe. Easiest solution is a Wi-Fi lightbulb if the fixture will take it. Maybe in the future there will be an in fixture add on device to make these Wi-Fi switchable as power goes there first.
