Hi Dan, I used to have one of those gas lights. I used to light it by turning the gas on and holding the match under the burner. As the gas is heavier than air it ignites so you don't need to take the top off each time. I've now subscribed to the vegan outdoorsman. Nearly at his first thousand. Great video again.

There's a newer version of that bivvy with a hoop at the foot end as well plus the door is double skinned with a full mesh inner one for star gazing if the weather suits. It's called the Geertop Plume II. I was out in mine last night.

There’s no need to remove the top of the lamp to light it. Just poke the lighted match through the gap between the top and the glass. Worked for me every time. Unfortunately they are not good in windy conditions .

Nice video Dan 👍👍. Yeah here in B.C 🇨🇦, we have to take precautions on camping . Big knives, firearms, bear spray, as we have alot of wild life. That will take you out. Blk Bears 800lb + , cougars, Coyotes, Wolf's. The werst are raccoons, sneaky little Buggers 🙁. Will take every advantage on you, & they are NOT afraid of you. I always take my dog with me, he can sense approaching danger. So it's a symbiosis collaboration, he has my back & I have his. I watched every moment 👍👌 Dan , as I grow up in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, then moved to Canada 🇨🇦 28 years ago. I miss the English country side 😢

That thing in the Lantern is called a Mantle , we used to have them on the wall in Gas lamps when I was a Kid !😂😅😊 And they still worked .

Hej man nice video, I enjoyed it. First one I’ve seen from your channel. Just a quick tip, might work or it might not it depends. But usually my experience with MRE’s is that the flameless heater works better if you fill it slightly above the dotted line and use warmer water if possible. Also let the chemical pad soak up as much water as possible. You can kind of tilt the bag so the ”chem pad” can do it’s job. Let me know if it works better when/if you try it!

Listen to your feet they tell you what to wear. A week of hobnailed boots is more than enough for most. We could send you some snakes Dan but they won't allow us to export them ..lol. Very amazing video to listen to as I am fully blind and I wild camp often I use my British army basha and basha poles and British army goretex bivvy bag in all in dpm and I use a very thick foam sleeping mat

Just to let you know mate,we do have a poisonous snake an adder,usually found in country side use to watch them as a kid on holiday in North Wales and warned by teacher's in Cheshire to be careful during school holidays, keep it up buddy great 👍.

Yeah often see adders up here in the highlands in summer. Got loads of wild boar up here to they sound scary when a load of them come walking past your tent at night lol but they take of soon as they see you

Dan, those Gaz lamps are great but... the mantle is a pain to fit and they are fragile. I just use rechargeable LED units now, both headlamp and lantern. As for the trainers... I wear them because they are comfortable and get the job done. There is a saying that every pound on your feet adds ten to your back. I wear some very light Sketchers. I bought a pair of Merrell Moab 2 which are designed for trail hiking but they are 500g heavier and not as comfortable. Keep up the great work, never lose the Yorkshire accent; it's great to hear after 50 years in Australia. I'm originally from Stockton-on-Tees.

First time viewer - I wouldn't say too chatty but I don't know what's usual. Personally if I'm near home doing an urban camp I've got no worries sticking the jesus creepers on 🤣 totally agree though, other than the odd group of young lads if anyone else sees a torch flickering in the middle of the night they aren't going to want to approach the hobo in the trees incase they get mugged.
