Sorry for the delay in finishing this part; the main reason was that things came to light about the Popur X5 after all my filming was finished, some of them rather worrying. I had to redo many tests, try and get answers from Popur themselves and then had to add lots to the video, which has made it long, but I am sure the time will fly by.
Please check the pinned comment for updated info on the Popur X5.
The machines featured in this series are Litter Robot 3, Litter Robot 4, Petkit Pura Max, Petkit Pura X, Popur X5, Lavviebot S, Leo's Loo Too.
In this video, I cover some overall comparisons with all the machines, but then the main focus is on the Popur X5 and the Lavviebot S.
Whisker, Smarty Pear and Popur sent review samples, which I am enormously grateful for, and the others I bought.

FACEBOOK GROUP LINK: m.facebook.com/groups/716728716749441/ VERY IMPORTANT! This isn’t the pinned comment that I mentioned but this is currently more important. You can find the update info comment under “top comments”. There’s been another close call with a cat and the Popur X5. 😡 A gorgeous 7 month old 2.7kg cat who plays with the machine all the time, like Lollipop, jumped into the machine whilst it was descending from emptying to start the levelling. There’s so much space at that point WITH the fence on, especially for a small cat like her. She was behind the filter when it started retracting to level the litter. She didn’t try to get out as she was more interested in playing. Had her owner not seen this and rushed to unplug the machine she would have been badly hurt or worse by the filter crushing her. The owner doesn’t of course have the new firmware, but also as my review shows, it won’t always work. Popur insist the machine is 100% safe. They insist kittens can use it. They refuse to change the safety instructions. Why? Popur, what will it take for you to make your customers know that it isn’t 100% safe? I am doing everything I can to make sure that no cat is badly hurt or killed because of Popur’s shocking inaction over my detailing the potential dangers of their machine. PLEASE! If you have small cats/ kittens don’t let them anywhere near this in auto mode. If you know of anyone with the machine let them know! Watch this video to see what happened: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l57LY5iLpbp5n68 Make sure you read the update comment for what Popur are doing/ not doing. Thank you. Philip

@@elishajanisch6101 support@popur.com I don’t see how they can put a lock on the lid and make it work though. But if you do email them please ask them to revise their safety instructions when you email them. Ask them to add “must use with fence” and “only use with cats over 2.5kg (or whatever is appropriate)” I am desperately trying to get them to amend their safety instructions to save lives but they just don’t seem to care. Especially after that I say in this pinned comment. 😞

@@wuzadiva Hi Liz, you can ONLY get the firmware update after you have received the USB tool from them and reprogrammed the machine using it and a Windows laptop. Do you have it? The part of the machine that needs updating cannot be done until it has been reprogrammed to accept app-based firmware updates. You can do updates for certain things but not the mechanical operation of the machine or the bin.

THIS IS THE MAIN UPDATE COMMENT - check pinned comment too please! The reason why this is so long is because of the issues with the Popur X5 and their dreadful reaction to my complaints. Because they threatened to sue me if I misrepresented their machine I made sure that the video thoroughly showed all the problems. IF they had put their hands up and said “we will fix them” the video would have been half the length as I wouldn’t have needed to go into such detail to prove what I was saying. I am hoping they respond to this video in a non threatening way and instead say that they will fix them as the machine would be really good then. If they do respond, this is where that information will be. One thing I didn’t put in the video but is something many companies do too, and that’s the reviews of their product on their website. They delete the negative ones, both Katie and Tina’s 3 star reviews were deleted. They are a company who don’t allow criticism unfortunately. Update: Popur had actually put out an update on Kickstarter this week which I hadn’t seen. In it they listed a number of things. 1: Despite them not believing there is a safety issue they will be sending all customers the USB device over the next two months. Nothing about saying you must always use the fence. Nothing about changing their claim kittens can use it. FYI, the USB update tool is not for someone who isn’t computer literate. It’s quite fiddly and also only works on Windows machines as it need to connect the Popur to a computer to work. I hope they come up with a simpler USB tool for the people who won’t be able to use their current one. 2: They are working on a new liner to fix the hem leaking problem, but not the overall robustness, or the leaks in the other stitching. 3: They offer a solution for my problem with the bin lid opening slightly after cycling. Close it shut yourself each time. 😂 So, whilst there is a step in the right direction there’s a lot more to be done. That update was put out before this video went live but I hadn’t seen it. Fingers crossed this video spurs them on to do much much more. They would be crazy not to. I will keep you updated here. 🙂

I’m an industrial design student who happens to love cats and your videos are so interesting to me. You do such a fantastic job of discussing the pros and cons and lay out such good solutions to the problems you see. My favorite part of industrial design is being presented with a problem in a product and creating an effective solution. It’s such a shame that Popur doesn’t seem to have to want to solve the problems with its product. There’s no shame in having problems in the initial iterations and having to fix them! It’s literally part of the design process!
@OneManFiveCats

Thanks Jasmine. You are spot on. I’ve made many suggestions to make things better over the 6 months or so. Some they took on board, some they didn’t. I’ve been on at them about safety for kittens from day one after seeing Lollipop go crazy with it. The main guy just refused to accept there was any risk. As a machine that was safe without sensors and interruptions was his main goal you can see why he wouldn’t accept it despite clear evidence. The liner they refuse to accept its badly made, too thin or that they should properly cover the stitching on the outside. When you deal with waterproofing you don’t let it in and hold in the fabric, you stop it getting in surely? It’s what I said right at the beginning. So many of the issues I’ve come across in this series are so obvious. Every manufacturer needs to do as much testing as i do, well my 6 do. They are the best testers ever! 😂

This comment is actually for both @jasminelambert3753 and @OneManFiveCats. For starters, I have a background in business with an MBA. An issue that OneManFiveCats is running into with the founder of the device with safety issues is something I call Sunk Cost Bias. SCB is something better described by a psychologist, but in short I define it as a thought process where the person is generally thinking, "Well, I sank 'x' amounts of $ into r&d and we've already sunk 'y' amounts of capital into producing the product and shipping it out for distribution and sales. We'd lose that amount plus 'z' trying to recover the products already out as well as replacing the units already sold with the improved version." SCB is an unethical approach to problem solving. It ignores the facts as they are presented in favor of protecting the assets already expended to make and sell what is already out on the market. What makes it unethical is the wrong thing is being protected in the line of logic. Any business that I find engaging in this kind of behavior is automatically added to my household's banned list. I don't simply ban a product, the entire brand becomes forbidden within my household. Some examples of this kind of band are as follows: 1. Breast Pump brands who sell their kits but then the horns and pumps can't be independently replaced a la carte in the parts replacement section of the brand's website. This ban exists because without the horn, the entire kit is worthless and because pumps only come with a one year warranty, parents of multiple children can anticipate eating the cost of at least two pumps per child if they are adhering to breastfeeding their child past the one year mark. Even with a one year warranty, some brands will end up replacing their pumps due to one kind of failure or another. My anger comes directly from the understanding that poor design at a single point within the horn can render the entire warranty void under the normal wear and tear clause and force the purchase of another kit. This is unethical behavior for any company because it bypasses planned obsolescence entirely (another unethical practice) and blames the customer for breaking the product carelessly when the design to begin with was poorly executed. In this particular case, we're talking about operational properties of plastic. 2. Refrigerators that have the ice box located in the fridge section and utilize lower quality thermistors/temperature sensors. Poor main board designs and shotty programming lead to machines that don't last the full ten years they're warrantied for and result in customers losing both all their frozen groceries when the fridge fails as well as the money sunk into hiring a certified repair technician authorized by the manufacturer to come out and fix the machine. Again, this forces a family to spend more money it shouldn't otherwise. 3. Smartphones that use lower quality battery chemistries that cause the battery to expand as they fail, damaging the phone itself and forcing a replacement. What I find most unethical about this is that batteries used to be replaceable and you'd simply keep going with the same phone on a new battery until a better phone you liked came out. To say nothing of the more sinister topics surrounding smartphones, this issue alone has me looking for more basic phones. And I mean more basic than you're probably thinking, because I'm thinking throwback to the 90's before the cell phone became popular and way before they became critical need items. I hope these examples adequately explain what I look for in a product or service and lay the groundwork for what I really came to say here. I really appreciate how OneManFiveCats described the problems with each of the units he evaluated and what he did to communicate those problems factually to the companies that make them. His description of their responses, in particular the 50 page response where a threat of lawsuit was made, I find it directly proportionate to how I see those companies in terms of their ethics and how they deal with problems in business. While we do currently live in a global economy where we're experiencing a contraction of global trade as well as shrinking purse strings, it is still becoming ever more critical within each household to find and cling to the brands that ultimately choose to do the right thing rather than what will make them rich. While staying in business is important, it's not nearly as important as doing the right thing. The due diligence research required to improve a product to the extent that unnecessary purchases for replacement aren't part of the business model is a critical component for business this decade. Circular economy is an aspect of consumer trends dominating conversations in private. Your channel is talking about it indirectly by showcasing prime examples people in the 3D printing and maker communities work on regularly. As a diy maker myself, the solution to your leaking fabric is to acquire thermoplastic sheets similar to what the other automated litterbox is using and replace the fabric liner with a custom fit thermoplastic sheet. It may not be that straightforward a solution, as the plastic will need molding to confirm to the shapes required. As for the cat piss ending up inside the machine, your solution to create a barrier shield is the ticket here. Consider expanding on your concept with a liner covering the areas affected and use a Velcro patch to make cleaning easier. The solution you develop must translate to non-interference with the automated functions. Personally, there are things I like from all the reviewed devices, but safety concerns I have that you've showcased here and in the prior video have made me conclude that I'm happier cleaning out my cats' litter boxes manually on a daily basis. I'd much rather waste a hundred times over the cost of the most expensive automated litterbox out there in terms of time spent designing my own, rather than buy one with even the slightest risk to visiting kittens (the neighborhood cats come to my house for supplemental meals and to visit mine. I fostered 2 pregnant cats at the same time during the pandemic). To me, the way a person treats animals shows their true self on a subconscious level. I want nothing to do with people who mistreat animals. I understand the trauma response those who have had a negative interaction in the past, but I'm not referring to them. I'm referring to the people who end up the subject of specific Netflix documentaries such as Don't F$#@ with Cats. My sentiment generally translates to a similar assessment when I see people chasing off animals from their vicinity. I also take keen notice when a neighborhood animal or stray takes offense with someone passing through, some animals make it their job to announce to everyone which people are the ayeholes. I've learned to trust specific animals' instincts about people over the years through observations of both people and animals. Sorry for the long winded rant. Thank you for doing what you both do.

From my years in Quality Assurance in industry, the biggest lesson I always tried to teach recalcitrant directors who didn't believe they had any problems was that every organisation has problems and the thing that differentiates the good from the bad is simply how those problems are handled. A part of my brain wants to contact Popur and offer my services to help them get started with a good customer services system, but most of my brain is screaming 'run a mile, and when you get there, keep running'. Their response is truly despicable. They have no need to worry about your video putting me off based on the product review - I'm put off by the idea of having to deal with attitudes like theirs!

Agreed 100% As someone who works in the tech industry, I'm a firm believer in quality over "speed to market", add to that safety + quality - 100% over "time to market". If a company is willing to overlook some pretty obvious safety flaws and quality control issues just to meet a market delivery deadline, then that does not bode well for the long term success of the product. Being rude to early adopters is also a big negative in my book. Popur needs to sort out their priorities.

I decided to wait for this review to come out, and I'm really glad I did. I think I'll hold off on buying until all of the issues are addressed. It still seems like a really impressive product that has a ton of potential, but the issues mentioned make this a no-go from me. To answer the couple of rude and offensive comments which I’ve deleted, there’s a reason I’ve not been as harsh in part 1 with the litter robot 4 and that’s because it’s a better machine! 😂 The reason there’s affiliate links for it and some of the other machines in the description is to help fund these reviews a little. The reason there’s no affiliate links for the one’s in this video is because A: there’s no affiliate scheme or sold on Amazon and B: I cannot recommend anyone buys these. I hope that makes things clear. These reviews are independent and self funded. I’ve turned a couple of fake review offers from some brands. Those aren’t reviews.

Whew! That was a very thorough and ultimately, fair, review of the Popur X5. Outstanding. I had been waiting to buy it based on your forthcoming review, but could wait no longer when my five cats pressed me during the holidays for a replacement to their constantly faulty LR3. So, I pulled the trigger and bought it right before Christmas. It's now been in use for just over three weeks. My experience so far is generally different than yours for the most part. My first impression unboxing it was stunned disbelief that I was actually getting a cardboard box for the waste bin. I still find it shocking, though, three weeks in it has been reliable. I am going to reinforce it based on your video though. This feels like such an easy engineering problem to overcome. Beyond that waste bin, my sense is that this could actually be the best in class automatic cat litter box with just the basic changes you recommend. My complaints are focused around two things beyond that waste bin: 1. The app for Android (not sure if it is better on an iphone) is absolutely beta. Thankfully, it does the basics right -- scheduling cleaning, and automatic routines for the cleaning cycles. What it can't get right is persistence of remembering it is paired with the litter box when there is a power outage, and setting the clock on the front(?!) One would think with so much focus on that cool screen they'd get that easy bit right. Maybe the clock software designer also designed the pro waste bin... 2. Four of my cats were absolutely horrified when I demonstrated the cleaning cycle. I had them use the box for two days without running a cycle, then I gathered them in the "poo room" so that we could all watch it together. I like to think I am a cat whisperer, or can hear the whispers from my cats, so one cat seemed scared by the animation on the screen. Another cat did not like watching the waste falling into the bin (based on the expression on his face), the third cat just looked completely shocked. And the fourth, she spooks easily. I am not sure what her issue was. The fifth cat thought, my kitty sense inferred, this would be an amazing opportunity to have it all to herself. She absolutely loves it. She'll go back to it during the day just to hang out near it and in it. Disheartened, I decided to put it into manual mode, where it has remained for the last two weeks or so, and within the last three days all but one of the cats have returned to using it. I am running it behind closed doors without the cats in the room three times a day and I am ok with that arrangement as long as they are using it. And, based on this firmware issue, maybe that's good anyway. All that said, even with your review, I would still buy the Popur X5. I can live with all it's faults because it is still so much more reliable and easier to use than our previous LR3. The simplicity in design is the key here and I understand that design logic. The other major builders have over designed their solutions to the point that they are either ultimately unrealistic, or they fail quickly and catastrophically. That lid that keeps the litter in is fantastic. The poo room has never been cleaner. I took it off one day and one of the cats thought it would be fun to swipe out half the litter in the box. If the co-founder, Dan, can get over his indignation, I hope that he can bring in the engineering talent to fix the three main issues with it. R&D is expensive. So is software development. I could sense his exasperation coming through your reaction to his letter. I get it from both sides with experience in both fields. But, if he can put that to the side, generate the cash he needs to get the fixes, he'll be on his way to having the BEST box in the business, and hopefully on to selling to Purina or some other major pet brand. Then, he can reinvest in a car company, and eventually, a social media platform to get all that aggression out. I am really keen to see your Catio videos! Thanks for such a great production!

@@catsandcrafts171 there’s really no punchline. I am reviewing lots of machines where I show what I like and dislike, especially what needs to be improved. I stopped using the others after I did all my tests with them as I found the LR4 better for me. I have a new machine being tested right now and then another one is coming next month. So there’s going to be a part 4 then a part 5 etc. As long as I can get hold of new machines I will keep the series going even if it’s 6 months or more between parts if there’s nothing new. 🙂

I would watch all of your reviews happily, even though I ended up buying the Catlink Standard Pro as the LR4 is not available in Australia yet. I’ve been extremely happy with my Catlink, have had not had any issues at all so far so would be really happy if it ended up in your reviews! I was tossing between Catlink and Puramax until I heard of the urine leaking issues of the latter. Not had any problems with the Catlink I’m happy to report!

I bought a Littermaid multicat automatic box in 2002 back when they were a new thing. I had two cats and they loved it. Used it for years and the plastic trays were awesome. Easy to dump wash out and reuse. Very cost effective and I think the box was a little over a hundred bucks. It cleaned and scooped soooo good. I’d love to get my hands on one of those old models.

I am so delighted to have found your videos! You are an obvious cal lover (like me) and have a very good understanding of all the ways that cats will strive to foil our attempts to keep their litter box clean and the area around it free of litter. I currently have 3 cats. My oldest is Moya, a tiny Bengal but feisty as the dickens! She runs the household! The other 2 boys are a ginger tux cat, Roscoe and a tiger striped dark grey giant, Crazy Boy. I believe he has Maine Coon in his lineage. Litter boxes are a constantly challenge in our house. Moya is easy but insists her box be clean each time. Very neat and tidy. Roscoe is also the same but is shy and doesn't like and audience or a closed box. Crazy Boy is the most difficult. One is his 18lb size and he pees on and on and on!. He is an incessant scratcher and has to scratch before and after his "duty". He also only pees in the corners so the litter sticks in this are and can be difficult to clear from the bottom of the box. He also will not willingly use a closed box. Both boys tend to stand more than squat to pee. Many the times they pee over the edge of the box! We have 3 boxes in our house, as we all belong to the cats but Mom and Dad are not the same for all three cats. I am the one with the cleanest box (for Moya) so all three cats come to my room. I clean daily or it is not clean enough for Moya. Long intro to explain why I was looking at the Popur. I liked the size and the open feature. Your video has left me questioning this purchase. I have contacted the company to ask questions but I do not seem to be able to be clear about my question. Now that I see the issue with the soaked liner, I am very cautious to get this box. One because of the amount of urine CB puts our and his standing crouch to pee. So, I need to watch more of your videos to find a box that will work for my crazy household of cats. These items are certainly not a cheap purchase and we (the other cat mom and dad) want a box for each side of the house. If you have a recommendation based on this lengthy comment, I would be ever so grateful. I have subscribed and will send a small donation later this week. It is a wonderful delight to find another cat person with such a fun understanding of our craziness over our furbabies. I also would love to see your videos about your catios. The other mom and dad in this house want to build one for the boys. She has lost too many cats to willingly allow her boys outside without supervision. Thank you for your wonderful videos! First want to touch on the Lavviebot, which I only discovered thanks to your video! Here in North America we have a $200 USD machine called LitterMaid (not sure if you have it there). It's one of the more affordable automated litter boxes. It strikes me that the Lavviebot, with its rake system, is basically a LitterMaid that is 4x expensive. Its bells & whistles - self loading litter, enclosed cabinet, slide out tray, etc - can all be filed under "who cares?" The LitterMaid seems to do the same thing far more safely at one-fourth the cost... Now to the Popur, which is what brought me here. What a disappointing response you got from the manufacturer! Especially since their product has so much potential. You see, we used to have Litter Robot. We found that its globe design almost always led to some litter dust making it on to the backs of our cats. The cats can and often did turn around and brush up against the sifting grate while using the LR. When you think about what that really means - dust potentially contaminated with urine, feces - we realized it wasn't for us. So we went back to the old (but new) LitterMaid. With 3 (now 4) cats, the rake-system is more like an "assist" in keeping it clear during the day. But every night, yes, I scoop out / clean out straggler clumps in the pan and on the tines. And full disclosure, our LitterMaid sits on a 3rd party manufactured wood cabinet by LitterWorks - which lets us use a 13-gallon trash bag via a chute for litter waste, instead of the standard receptacle (good for about 1 week per 1 cat). Far from ideal, but to your point, SAFE and cleanest for our cats. That's why all the globe designs are no-go for us. We thought the Popur might be the answer. An open design that's not a globe, not a rake, but a litte bit of both or something in between. It's actually a really smart idea! So we wanted to learn more. This video, your showing us what the Popur is literally made of and how it operates, is enlightening. Funny that what their website was NOT telling me, was what led me to do further research. I didn't know what material the pan liner is made of. You showed me. And you know what? That's disgusting. To me, and it should be to everyone, it doesn't matter that the litter may prevent actual leakage. The fact that any of the material can absorb urine, well that's just nasty. No one wants urine-soaked ANYTHING. There's no excuse for it, Popur: Change the fricken liner to something waterproof. But what gets me the most is their attitude about the very clear safety issue. I mean, is the co-founder in an extreme state of denial? All of his rationalizing that you reiterated sounds deeply disturbing for someone leading a new product marketed for pets and their well-being. If it were me, I'd be thanking the customers who brought the problems to my attention and immediately reaching all product owners - through all possible channels - on how to use the product safely. Because I have a conscience far bigger than my ego, and I care about how my product serves & affects others. I ask the same from people we do business with. Popur's replies to you equal a huge red flag! Honestly, I had no idea that I'd go on this long! Just want to thank you for going so in depth and for pushing toward a solution. I'm sorry that anyone would be combative or threatening toward you about anything you're doing here. You clearly love your beautiful cat kids! We love ours, too - and we appreciate you for sharing that love in such an informative, helpful way. Best to you! / Roman Seano

“Thank you,” for doing these reviews. Your reviews are very in-depth and informative. Makers of these litter boxes apparently don’t understand how protective we are of our fur babies. There are accidents, the makers can’t think of all the accidents that can happen with their equipment, they should be LISTENING to the people who are buying their equipment. I have the Litter Robot 4 and the Pet Safe litter box. I’m VERY happy with both of them. They are both fairly easy to clean and it is very quiet. I have 4 cats and they seem to be quite happy with both of them also.

It certainly looked like a very good design, but won't be coming to my country, Australia, until later on this year. Actually most products won't be in Australia until later this year... I really hope Popur address the concerns you raised in this video though, as my two boys are around 7 kg Maine Coon crosses (to the best of our knowledge) and it looks like a really good size for them since that seems to be similar to Harriet in size, but the cardboard bin and water absorbing liner really put me off the product. They're also very inquisitive and destructive so I'd be worried about what they'd do to the machine if it kept moving with them close to it. I've already had to barricade the robo-vac in so they stop flipping it on its back after they turn it on...

As many others, i really appreciate your valuable time taken to make this informative video for everyone shopping for automatic litter boxes! I was in the market for Popur but ended up double thinking about it due to your thorough review. I’ve been both a seller and buyer and I get how heart breaking it is when you care about a product and give genuine feedback and it is considered as an annoying complaint. You’ve handled it very well though, if it was me receiving the 5800 word letter I would have been so so bitter that i would’ve spent rest of my life creating criticizing videos 😂 I am now in the market for Neakasa M1 open top litter box, the item probably wouldn’t get delivered for another few months or until next year, but because you have so many experiences with different types of auto litter boxes, i’m hoping if you can post a short video showing what your thoughts are on Neokasa’s design, mechanics, how well it would work, any cons from the design, etc. Thanks!!

@@bradyreish3069 you will know if it’s leaking because you will see the liner being all wet on the surface. You won’t see any urine on the machine under it like the Petkit, Choubox etc machines thankfully. If they pee on the hem or on the corners without any litter on them then it will soak in. The waterproofing on the corners is underneath the stitching/ holes so liquid seeps in on the surface and spreads. I will be very interested to hear how you get on with that liner. These are my opinions and they are also based on my experiences compared to others. The Lavviebot S failed badly in all but two areas. It has terrible safety features, the worst app, poor filtering, a very sticky litter tray, a crazy small waste drawer for a machine of that size and price and a design that just wasn’t thought through, like the access to the side and the way it opens. Only the physical buttons and refilling were good. When a company charges $900 for their machine and call it the most sophisticated litter box on the market it has better be great! When compared to other machines it shows just how sub par it is. I was so disappointed with it, I had high hopes! If you are happy with it then that’s good. My series is all just my opinions, but backed up by strong facts and tests. Thanks! 🙂

Hey- I'm debating between the pura max and the Leo's Loo Too. With the pura max how's the smell and the deodorizing spray? How often do you have to unload the waste drawer? It's a smaller compartment than Leo's Loo Too, but it seems like it would actually end up holding more because of the design. I'm way overthinking this! @@katelynjones9121 it's not a simple question, they are in part 3 but it wont be out in the next week or two. Never use the deodorising spray as you don't want it going onto your cats as it can cause an allergic reaction in some. The pura max suffers from urine leaks. The waste bin is fine, don't forge i have a lot of cats. LLT bin often doesn't tell you when it's full resulting in the smearing of waste around the cylinder. Both have many pros and cons. Never mind the cost of video production, caring for 6 cats would be expensive enough! Looking forward to prt 3 and the 'Catio Movie'.

Thanks for the thorough review!! Since my cats are so big the Popur is safe enough with the fence, but I will certainly be using your reviews for my next automatic box purchase. Like you said, pending some updates this could be a very good purchase in the future. With the current liners, the cardboard waste bin, and the fact that it pushes my cat out if he tries to use it when the box is trying to smooth out the litter after a cleaning cycle… I can’t see myself buying it again. It was annoying when they used to pee in the litter robot mid cycle, but what are you going to do? Tell them to wait? This design is actually much better for that scenario because if the litter hasn’t been leveled they just dig the litter out from the back anyway 😂 I love how big the usable space is in the popur, but my 14 lb cats used the litter robot just fine. I just didn’t like the poop covered walls.

@@SharpLife4 I work very closely with the cat charity on the island. I’ve made 4 documentaries to help them raise enough money to buy land for a permanent home. You can’t just take cats that see, well I suppose you can but if you are taking them abroad then they need vaccinations, pet passport. Jimmy and Harriet are also from Skiathos, Harriet the same beach. I didn’t adopt Sevvy earlier as she seemed content there and it’s probably the best place for a stray on the island. When I first met her she was 10, now at at she was struggling more on the beach and especially in the winters. We’ve been talking about what would be best for her for a while. I’ve always said I can’t take her but the changing situation made me think I could. They all thought it was the best thing for her, that’s why it happened. Always appreciate how much time, effort and money you put into these videos! I have a Pura X as it's one of the few readily available in my country and luckily it works really well for me (and has been for a couple of years now). The situation with Popur X5 is shocking... They will regret that reaction.

You sir should be narrating BBC nature documentaries or for Discovery Channel. You have a calming smooth voice that is interesting and enjoyable. I do hope you will do more cat product reviews on all kinds of cat products and I hope many more cat product companies will send you their products to try. Have you done a cat food review? Thank you for all the work you put into your videos and information you share with cat lovers. May you have a happy and successful 2023 . Tracy Oklahoma 🇺🇸

20:05 Talk to anyone who has ever cleaned a public toilet. The PUD (Public Utility's District) & campus' I cleaned regularly had pee at chest height. The offices were much worse than the campus', surprisingly. But "if only the CATS would pee where they're supposed too..." >_> Edit: The Popur could easily kill a kitten, and their response is horrifying.

I imagine if the Popur founder does consult a lawyer (as he has threatened to do) he may get similar cautioning about his liability in the event of a tragedy as you have done here. At the VERY least, the marketing and instructional materials that come with the product should use much less absolute terms if he wants to cover his butt
@OneManFiveCats
@OneManFiveCats Жыл бұрын
Yup. He just didn’t want to drop his “100% safe” thing. Safety instructions aren’t just for the owner of the machine but to protect the manufacturer. Very silly to leave themselves so open to risk like that.

Great video, thanks! I currently have my eye on the Scubic litterbox that's on Indiegogo now (always crowd funded...) and would love to see it make an appearance in these videos further down the line if it actually ships and works. Even from the preview video there's some glaring issues like the tracks/gaps that will definitely get pee and litter in them, but there's so few options for large cats I'm trying to stay hopeful.
@OneManFiveCats

Thank you. Yes I’ve seen that. I didn’t back it as I’ve decided it’s not worth it anymore. You either lose money if they never ship or when you get It then it’s still a beta product. Too many examples of this everywhere. Doesn’t it use a rake? I hate takes! 😂

When I adopted my first kitty, she is now 9 years old, when she was a baby she REFUSED to use her litter box if it was dirty. Like she could have gone potty 1 time and then next time she would poop all over the floor. So I had to go purchase an automated litter box with 0 knowledge and it lasted about 8 years! Just a simple rake litter box, now I have 4 kitties, 1 LR3 1 LR4 and a good ole fashion litter box.

Thanks for your review. I have three cats myself and have used several Litter Robots and the LavvieBot S. Two of my cats were rescued from the street, one was board outdoors so semi-feral. They adapted very quickly to the LavvieBot S, and only the one who we adopted from the vet used the others and manual system (old school). We ended up selling the Litter Robot as the LavvieBot S makes the cats more comfortable. I think it has something do to with the fact that it automatically refills itself, keeping a steady level of litter. The rotating mechanisms of the others also get quite nasty and unpleasant for not only the cats but their human companions as well. More alarming is the fact that when the cat's waste materials interact with plastic, some nasty chemical reactions take place, which is very bad for the cats' and their human companions' health. LavvieBot S is lined with metal inside specifically to avoid this problem. Of course metal costs more to use and to ship but this tells me that the people at PurrSong are very mindful about their designs and the well-being of the cats. For the other companies, it seems they are more concerned with maximizing profit. I simply cannot believe they are not aware of the chemical reactions and the potential harm from their products. I'm guessing they are taking advantage of the fact that it not a regulated industry and thus can maximize profits at the expense of the health of cats and their companions.

With the Litter Robot, the circular tray rotates and filters the litter on the net. After filtering, the litter falls into the square hole. In this process, if the cat approaches, the sensor detects it, and the litter box stops working. It's very dangerous for cats because the kitten can get into the hole and the litter box can operate again, which traps the kitten in the waste bin. I think you and your viewers should be aware of this fact.

Or can you just tell me now what one to buy? Thanks again for these videos - they are amazing and I look forward to watching the catio video

I can’t tell anyone which one to buy, that’s not what I am doing here. I am giving people my opinion on all the machines and showing the good and the bad. What people choose to buy based on this is up to them. I would never tell people to buy something as that’s a lot of responsibility. I can’t give a date for part 3 yet, I have to take a break as this took a long time to make. All I can say is I am using two Litter Robot 4s and they’ve been flawless for the past 4 almost 5 months after initially having some issues. There’s no perfect machine for everyone. As good as the LR4 is it won’t work for everyone. That’s why it’s such a shame that Popur dropped the ball here.

Percy (?) judging the hell outa the 1st device was hilarious. If you have more than 1 cat there will always be 1 that will observe every little thing. It made me laugh how the bag puss and yoda sacrificed themselves for the sake of safety, a very important aspect! I can't imagine what the poor lady went through when her cat got hurt!
