Wow, so thorough!!! I am so glad I found your video.. thank you for making this. All the issues that were improved were the things I battled with weekly/daily. We are going on a 2 week trip out of the country, previously having others take care of them with the 3rd version.. clearing the issues was an issue so it wasn't really fully automatic. Daily, I have to check it to see if it even is cycling. I have a very strong sense of smell so try to get this to clear instantly. Not only that, my cats would fight anytime the litter would not cycle.. either leaving their waste in there to build up and get bad (like a regular litter box), or just get stuck mid cycle.. which then they'd actually go on the filter, which I am pretty certain is not great for the litter robot... So glad they improved. Just ordered the newest one :) appreciate your time on this!

So many improvements, I bought 3 litter robots a little over a year ago. Might sell them to upgrade 🤔 my only concern is how large the opening is. Feel like my cats will send all the litter out lol. The drawer improvements are a HUGE selling point for me, also sending the different cat weights!

Thank you for the detailed review. Amazed yours lasted so long without any replacements. Mines also 2016 model. I have had problems with the sensors and have needed it fixing three times, especially for the waste drawer sensors. I actually like the flap because it stops contact with waste and the cats back. Bit worried in newer models that they will get stuff on them 😬

Hi Mega, so far that hasn't happened with my cat. Her fur is clean after using the unit, always. I forgot to mention that I never had any issues with the sensor, the only thing I have replaced in the Litter Robot is the seal strips. Also, upgrades such as the backup battery and the Connect kit.

What I love about the LR3 is that every part that could possibly need to be replaced, can be purchased and the work done yourself. I'm hoping that that is the case with the LR4. I just can't justify spending $700+ on it. The best feature is the noise reduction. That's AMAZING. I already wrap my waste drawer with the trash bag on the LR3 without issue, but the smooth bottom of the LR4 is preferable. If the LR4 was $500, I'd consider purchasing 2 and selling at least 1 of my LR3s. I have a 3rd refurbished LR3 on the way because I have a "problem" cat and hoping a 3rd robot will solve her issues. There are so many automatic litter boxes on the market right now that I thought Whiskers would try to be competitive with their prices, but I guess they know that theirs is still the best. Awesome review, thank you!

Really great comparison! Thorough and well thought out. Explained all the pertinent aspects I was wondering about. I have the 3 and feel like it requires a change a little too frequently. Have you found with the deeper drawer, you are able to empty it less frequently? Also, I have noticed the 3 sometimes has unused (unclumped) litter in it. Do you notice the same and is the 4 better?

Hi Michael, the waste drawer IMO has more capacity, though I always empty the unit every week when I take the trash out so I haven't tested it for more than 7 days. However, I do see that the 7-day litter clumps seem smaller inside the drawer. When you see unused cat litter inside the waste drawer is usually an excess of cat litter, I know because when that happened to me with the LR3 I took cat litter out of the Globe and that issue was solved. The same could happen with the new LR4. As a tip, always fill the Globe hardly touching the full line and with a very flat litter bed.

Alot if people were having problems with the first litter robots with that internal flap (misalignment, falling forward or the spring in the rear gives way or breaks)- I had most of these problems. Next generation models did away with it and there is a fix - you delete it and cover the hole. KZbin has videos for this and they actually sell you a kit to cover the hole so litter doesn't go through it. Save your money, measure the hole and visit your hardware/automotive store for a plug that size and squeeze it in. This made a huge difference and my robot ran a lot better with no more "error" codes because of that flap.

My experience with the Litter-Robot 3 is that when it gets stuck, I usually take cat litter out because it could be too much. Another reason could be the nightlight somehow blocking the rotation (that happened to me) so I disabled the nightlight and the rotation never got stuck again (this happened recently after 6 years of use). Also, the flap being loose is a sign of a misalignment of the gear (the black stuff behind the globe) and that causes the globe to stop rotating. Also, with a litter mat under the unit, the weight sensor doesn't work 100%. Those could be the situations. I hope that helps. And no, the Litter-Robot 4 doesn't get stuck at all and it runs quietly and smoothly as you can see in the video.

Hi TeleeFone, I was wondering about that when I made this comparison, but I mentioned the shield being separated anyway since it's my experience. I have had the LR3 since 2016 so that's why my Litter-Robot features that shield, but the rest of the Connect's features are all the same. I am happy that the newer models don't have it. Have they changed the design of the pinch detect switch? Does the litter robot 4 have 2 one one each side as opposed to the litter robot 3 having one one the left side? At least in my case it was prone to fail due to the cat litter getting onto the switch terminals.

Hello, to be honest I have never dealt with any pinch with either one. I got the Open Air in 2016 and I used it for 6 years with no issues of any pinch. The new LR4 looks just like I showed in the video and it features 4 feet at the bottom that work as weight sensors, the electrics on the LR4 are not in the bonnet as the LR3 so no exposure of the switch terminals with cat litter.

Hello, thanks for the review! I have a Litter Robot 3 Open Air and the waste drawer smell leaks heavily through the openings of the bonnet. Starting on day 2 of use (I've only had it for a few weeks) my room has been smelling like an open bag full of dirty litter. It's disgusting. :( Is the problem fixed with the better odor control of the 4?

Hi Shugo, the Litter Robot 4 is tightly sealed so that helps with the odors. Personally, I have never experienced bad odors with the Litter Robot Connect and I used it for 6 years. For what I notice, there are some cats that create very stinky feces that overpass any litter box system. In that case, extra odor control measurements are needed, I will soon create a video with a good solution for cat owners that have this issue.

The LR4 is about 1.5 inch taller inside from the litter bed up to the highest point. The LR3 with the shield on top kind of takes out height. You can put the same amount of litter, about 7-8 pounds.

Hi Debbie, you need to use clumping clay litter but other types of litter also work, like corn litter and some types of crystal litter. The Litter Robot 4 doesn't currently have a ramp and the LR4 has a battery backup option that is sold separately but can't be used instead of the AC plug, it works only in case of a power outage up to 48 hours. Both work very well in my opinion. However, the Litter Robot 4 has a wider entry which helps large cats to stick their heads out and maybe part of their shoulders when doing their business which helps them to maneuver better. All in all, both work well as long as the cat doesn't turn its butt against the entry which rarely happens.

Hi Evan, the reason was that I was setting up and creating the video of the new Litter Robot 4 so I put my hand inside the globe numerous times which created an activation every time I did it because of the curtain-type sensor that senses the hand crossing the entry of the globe. By pressing the reset you cancel the activation. That's the only reason :)

I bought the 1st litter robot way back and then got the 2nd one. I had 2 cats using it one passed away and the other who is 15 now she quit using it and I don't know why. She would poop outside the box on the mat. I think she peed in their though. Now I have 2 other cats besides her they are 8 and they would go in the robot from time to time but I still have to keep a normal box down so they mostly use it and with 3 cats I now have 2 regular litter boxes. But we decided to give this one a try. I am hoping my oldest will get used to it and use it and if not the other 2 will have to at some point after my oldest is gone. She is sick with Kidney Failure now and I was told last November i had to put her down and she is still hanging in there with special medicine. But the new Robot 4 looks amazing. I had thought about the 3 and so glad we didn't try it. I got an email the other day about the 4 and ordered it yesterday. Got 10% for being a loyal customer. Can't wait to try it. I'm hoping to sell my other one it still works just used.

I bought my liter robot about 4 years ago and it’s quality has really gone down. I love it but lately it says it’s full after one rotation. It constant says the bonnet is off even tho it isn’t and the waste drawer takes a lot of shimmying to get out. But it still works and I don’t scoop liter anymore and I don’t have the money right now to buy the new one haha but once I pay off one of my credit cards I might treat myself to buying the new one

Hi Christina, I consider myself lucky because the Litter Robot Open Air that I got in 2016 and that I later transformed into a Litter Robot Connect worked really well all these years. Last year it started to show some problemas due to the nighlight blocking the rotation somehow, but I could easily fix the issue turning the nightlight off so it kept working. That was after 6 years of use! In general I have no complaints.

Of course they would make a new one after I bought 10. Size of the old model and litter tray isnt a problem for me. Its the sensors and them getting stuck. Also one light being blue and one being yellow. I just want them to work and have trouble shooted

Hi Katie, have you contacted customer service to help you with that? When the Litter Robot 3 doesn't finish a rotation is usually when it has too much cat litter. Also, (and this happened to me) the nightlight could cause the unit to stop rotating in the middle of a cycle. I fixed this issue by disabling the nightlight and it worked. I have to mention that this nightlight issue started happening when my Litter Robot 3 had over 5 years of use. I hope that helps!

Hi Anna, I have only one cat, but from what I can see, this litter box has been designed for multiple cats and the Manufacturer itself says it. Wider, more silent, with longer cycle delay, with a weight detection sensor recording, I would say yes, it's suitable for multiple cats.

Hi Queen, I don't think the screen is removable. I wash the Globe in the bathtub or in the yard with a pressure hose and I don't encounter that issue. I am sorry I couldn't help more.
