@OneManFiveCats Oh hey! Thank you so much for replying! I have a female Maine Coon, 1,5 years old and the body alone (without head nor tail) is about 50 cm long. I own a PetSafe Scoopfree automatic litter box that was gifted to us. We are not too happy with it (e.g. soft stool get stuck in the metal net). I was looking for alternatives, but it's quite difficult to find litter boxes that work for bigger cats (besides the litter robot 3/4 maybe?). I was wondering if this opened litter box would do it. Thank you for your videos and your reply :)

@@angrymuffin7314there’s a number of posts in my Facebook group dedicated to Maine Coons and which box. It’s worth joining to get some help from people with them. A lot of people use the Litter Robot 4 as it’s so big and open but there are people using the Neakasa M1 too. They will be able to give you the pros and cons of them.

I smeared some cat churu over a piece of tape and taped the piece inside the machine, that worked wonders! The litter attractant also helped!
I also recommend getting a covered regular litter box as a step to the robots. If they are unused to being covered over head they may balk more than those who have always jumped into an enclosed box before. I still keep a regular box in with my LR3, LR4 in one of the places I keep boxes, I have an LR4 in the main living space as well covered with a homemade wooden box for asetics. In case of a power outage ALWAYS keep a non powered box around. They still use the regular box on occasion, but as proof that the regular scooping action is their preference, they use the LR's far more. My guess is they all go at once after feeding and sometimes all the boxes are occupied so someone goes there. I have 6 cats. 4 total boxes, 3 LR3/4, 1 covered regular. None of my cats took long to transition. To be fair though, 4 of them were kittens from the two adult cats mating litter of cats. Mom, dad, and 4 offspring. The "kittens" were about 8 months old at the time I introduced LR3, they were still kitten enough to be more curious than skittish. But mom and dad, went in right away and didn't balk at all. They do prefer LR4 over LR3 because it's quieter. Cats don't like loud mechanical sound. As always you are so much fun and informative in your content, your live for cats shines all the way across the globe!! Thank you!! Smiles and blessings...

Hi! I have a request! I love the way you made these videos, I have 3 cats and I found myself buying the automatic litter box (one because otherwise they have the garden, they prefer the litter box). However, my question is, WHICH SAND IS THE BEST?! Almost all of them let the pee go all the way down. I find myself having to use the automatic litter box like a normal litter box, with the scoop to scrape the bottom.Or, it flakes and leaves lumps, it doesn't cover well (despite the option) and it dirties the entire wall of the litter box, it's thin and makes dust end up everywhere. In short, I'm looking for the best litter.

Thanks for these reviews, very helpful. Following your earlier videos we originally bought a Litter Robot 4 for our four cats. The LR4 is a good product but it is not perfect. Deep cleaning is needed as litter and dust gets inside, but when you take it apart there are wires and sensors everywhere so cleaning needs care. Plus, the carbon filters don’t really work so you end up buying their odor pads. These work but in Europe they are super-expensive. However, the biggest problem was our largest cat found it claustrophobic and started to pee outside it, not good! So, we bought a Neakasa M1 (weird name). This solved our pee problem as that cat is happier with the open design, and the other cats are fine with it also. There is no odor problem and since it doesn’t have filters or pads it is way cheaper to run than the LR4. I also have the impression it uses less litter though I haven’t confirmed that. It is relatively easy to clean, takes me half the time for the LR4. Minor problems have been small clumps of litter getting stuck to the outside somehow (no clue why) and falling off behind the machine when it rotates but otherwise fine. Like the LR4 the grids that separate clean from dirty liter are also hard to clean behind, they should be made detachable on both machines. Overall, Neakasa is the better machine and half the price of the LR4, which makes for less concern over the availability of spare parts, although if something breaks and can’t be fixed it is clearly not good for the brand longer-term, so they need to provide spare parts.

Super interesting! Thank you for the tips. Maybe sometime in the future I'll pick up one of the robots you recommend. (Right now one of my cats is dealing with a fungal skin infection so I don't want to stress her out even more since I have to upset her twice a day with medical treatments. She's good with it but it's still stress and it makes her sulk for a while before she resumes shadowing me.) I wished I had more power outlets though. 😔 With my current setup there's only one spot where a robot would work as far as power is concerned but it's the spot of the least used litterbox.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a self-cleaning litter box, but watching this video, I have decided to not get one. I realize that not all machines are designed the same as the one on your video, but they're just not worth it to me. I have six cats, and the two conventional litter boxes that I use and clean every morning and every evening, do just perfectly for me, and no chance of hazard for the cats. Thank you for this video!

I just got one for Christmas and wish I’d seen this then 😂 It took about a week for my cat to start comfortably using it; however, she still runs back to it and hisses/strikes at it a few minutes later as it goes through the cleaning cycle. Whenever I can, I try to sit with her during a cycle while petting her and giving her treats. Are there any other ideas for helping her feel more comfortable during the cleaning phase?

I have the original Puramax from Petkit, while my cat was trained to use it when he was younger, lately, he's failed to use it and ended up pooping outside of it. He starts off by going in to do his business and slowly, one foot at a time, move forward, until he's completely out. Which mean half of the mess is outside. The problem is, we have regular litter boxes but he does this with all of them.

We're about to adopt 2 kittens. Should we use the recommended litter (that is used in the self-cleaning unit) in the manual tray until they're old enough? Is it worth / easy to have the self-cleaning unit unplugged nearby while we're litter training them? I live in Thailand and am unsure which units are available yet, and how easy / expensive it is to get the right litter. Thank you! 🙏

You shouldn’t use clumping litter with kittens for health reasons if they swallow it. Get a litter that’s the same texture and you will be fine.

@ it’s not a full in depth review. It’s a decent enough machine but it’s huge yet the space for a cat isn’t great. The weight measurements are always way off making the tracking useless. What it’s good at is minimising tracking and if you have dogs. Other than that stick with my recommendations in the last video!

I did a bunch of studying on all the ways to get my cat to use the Litter Robot 4 I bought. After I set it up, she jumped in and used it before I started any possible training and before I got it set up on the app. I was in shock as she is typically so skittish and nervous. Honestly, I think it had more to do with the type of litter in the Litter Robot 4 versus what I used in the box. She tolerated the litter I used in the box but liked the clay more than the pine pellets. So, she went with the box that had the preferred litter. Oh, and she is still not bored by stopping it mid-cycle. I think it's her favorite pastime.
