In the Philippine side, it's too late for dialogue between China and the Philippines. However, In China's side, it is not too late. China should ask himself, if it's worth for China to enter to this kind of problems when their economy is tanking and the whole world are condemning their actions and behaviors? Who knows if they change their attitude or foreign policy in regard to this issue. The last time BBM went to China and spoke to Jinping, it looks like Jinping belittle him. Unlike, some photo of Xi and Duterte where it appears that Xi is ahead of Duterte by a step. On a bigger context, the solution to these issues is for the US to ratify UNCLOS. Now should be the correct time. Then an international alliance should be formed to serve as an enforcer of UNCLOS.

The problem is that the U.S. is not a co-signatory of UNCLOS they never signed UNCLOS due to their permanent bases abroad, signing UNCLOS would mean them giving up their rights to those bases. So U.S. could only back us up as a deterrence to China's global imperialistic ambition.

China has disputes with all of its neighbors except North Korea. Period. They are very aggressive with the Philippines because they see it as the one with the weakest, militarily. this is not true. China has solve more of it territory dispute since WWII than most countries. this myth that China is an aggressor is simply US misinformation. even on the issue of 9 dash line, in ROC there were 11 dash, the north part of the dispute with Vietnam is resolved, thus reducing its line. US is militarly inferior to China now, while US fleet may appear large, do a count on how many ship US has that is build after 2000 compare to China, US fleet is aging. furthermore these island are not critical to Philippine survival as compared to China, China requires the island to ensure their nuclear sub is protected, this is about their nuclear deterrence, they are not going to give up their nuclear deterrence and allow US to nuke them. Philippine should reconsider if it want to be another "Cuba Missile Crisis".

This is a long and totally different issue. As for the West Philippine Sea, it is China that militarized it with bases in Mischief reef. They even tricked other claimants that they were just building shelter for fishermen during reclamation phase. Look at it now. The issue cannot be solved by a bilateral discussion, period. This is the reason the Philippines went to ICJ and got the ruling. As far as international law is concerned, China's claims are outrageous and baseless. Most in the free world agrees and China needs to burst its own bubble of alternate reality.

As a Filipino taxpaying citizen humour me this.. Our nation The great Republic of the Philippines is navigating towards WAR with China due to the disputed piece of seas which is by the way not our main source of Economy but to those few fishermen whom occasionally catch fish there about 4-5 month's per year due to it's dangerous waves and Philippine's cyclone weather almost half a year, within our EEZ and Chinas 9 dash line. That small part of our territory that Philippines also used to trade with China using our merchant ships to sail the South china sea going to "China". Tapos ngayon maghahamon kami ng gyera sa China kasi nakakaistorbo sila sa mga bapor ng pinas papaunta sa "CHINA" na parang lahat ng pinoy yan ang minimithi kaysa lower prices of Petrol, food and basic commodities. Also peace and order since this new adminstration with Marcos innocent people are dying left and right, atleast the previous duterte admin criminals are subject to killings now it's the taxpayers the people who are playing fair, the 9-5 Filipinos whom wish nothing harm to others but a fight to survive and make ends meet. If we are talking about Colonialism the small seas "Filipinos" are willing to die for because they are in our territory is a no match to the AMERICAN bases here in the Philippines. Americans have 20++ bases here in the Philippines without the blessing of our People. They signed a piece of paper the next day they are already here and us the People are not suppose to saying anything against them. Japan and S. Korea can sit down for negotiations and cooperations, despite of their long time disputes over the sovereignty of the Liancourt Rocks in the sea between them. That is political wisdom and diplomatic maturity on full display. Other countries such as China and the Philippines can definitely learn from S. Korea and Japan to manage their difference on South China Sea, Taiwan, MILF or whatever, and develop their relationship.

For six years of Duterte's presidency there was relative calm in the South China Sea. Under the reign of BBMarcos, there is tension and the US have 4 new military installations in the Philippines. Now, also, there are confrontations, albeit of a benign nature of sorts. 4 new US installations, then increased confrontations. Philippine analysts claim increase aggression by China. This framing does not make sense, especially that the US has a declared policy that China is an existential threat to the US. BBMarcos is assisting the US in creating chaos in Southeast Asia, IMHO. BBMarcos is siding with the US, which has a record of creating death and destruction in many parts of the world. The sickest aspect of this Philippine -US alliance is that the country which caused the death of 250,000 Filipinos in the Philippine American War and currently complicit in the ge no cide of Palestinians is a deemed a friend and ally in case of war with China. Other ASEAN countries manage relations with China peacefully and get on with economic development, despite territorial disputes. Why not the Philippines?
