During covid we had pretty strict lockdowns, and also there were substantial stretches of time - much of 2020 and 2021 where it was basically illegal to travel between states - you had to apply for special permission from the government for very extenuating circumstances. A lot of people, especially Grey Nomads, were trapped for months. WA and the NT were some of the strictest, I wouldn't be surprised if that killed the alien caravan park.
@bohemelavie1 Жыл бұрын
Wycliffe Well was flooded out 3 times over the span of two months which is what lead to it's "temporary" closure. However seeing this footage and reading a few reviews online of how it's been ransacked I don't like it's chances of actually reopening. It's a shame. I live in Alice and drive north a few times a year for work, this has always been one of my favorite stops, it's so quirky.

Understand you are disappointed. Please don’t think have failed. Definitely not the case. Love your positivity. Loved seeing the aliens. So cool. Thanks for showing us parts of Australia we may never get to see otherwise. Good to see Tia behind the wheel again. Enjoy the new route.
@trevorkrause7220 Жыл бұрын
If you ever get back to Australia and buy a decent four wheel drive then the Northern part of Western Australia is probably one of the best places in Australia to go adventuring with a four wheel drive. One could spend months in that vast area alone and still only see a small portion of the available natural attractions. Probably have to be more careful about choosing the time of the year to visit there than most elsewhere in Australia as the entire landscape as well as access or exit travelling conditions can change rapidly and sometimes catastrophically after the big wet, moonsoon rains and cyclones start to arrive.
@grandmothergoose Жыл бұрын
You previously considered and even asked if you should do a detour to see Uluru, so that was a potential option for you a week or so ago. Before you leave Uluru, check the roads up north again, if the bridge and roads are open by the time you're done in the red centre, you might be able to get back to doing your giant lap. It'll add an extra week or so onto your adventure, but going back to Perth via Adelaide is going to do that to you anyway.

Strongly recommend, if you're going to go down south through to Adelaide; stop at Coober Pedy - it's an opal mining town and tourist destination, aside from the fascinating opal mining stuff the town is famous for being completely underground (due to extreme weather). If you've ever wanted to know what it's like to live like a fantasy Dwarf this is your chance. This is also your chance to visit Nitmiluk Gorge if you stop in Katherine - it's a very, very famous and picturesque place. Huge bummer you didn't get to finish (if you have time left on your visas maybe once you get back to Perth via the Nullarbor you can go up the west coast? the landscape in the top half of WA is quite extraordinary.) but in any event yet another reason to come back again for Australia Round 2. I mentioned this in the comments to your last video, but I don't know if you read them more than a day or so after posting - that water hole you visited a couple days back in Litchfield national park where everyone was swimming and you mentioned how it must be safe from Crocs? They just had to close it down because someone got bitten by a 2m croc, so you got in to see it just in time

A tip you needed back on the Nullabor- Typical pressures for soft sand would be 18 psi for a heavy vehicle, 15 psi for an average vehicle or 12 psi for a light vehicle. Fun fact Sedona's red rocks are 330Ma down south in SA - The Gawler Craton covers approximately 440,000 square kilometres of central South Australia. Its Precambrian crystalline basement crustal block was cratonised ca. 1550-1450 Ma. Prior to 1550 Ma the craton comprised a number of active Proterozoic orogenic belts extending back in time to at least 2450 Ma.

Going south means that you can go to the opal mining town of Coober Pedy where people live underground, and you will be able to stay in underground accommodation. The drive to Alice Springs is beautiful. Ayers Rock is okay. I prefer the Olgas. Now you know why a 4WD is advisable in the northwest. Gives you more options if a road gets closed, but it also gets you into gorgeous out of the way places. 2WD is only good for the main roads. Had you stayed north Kakadu would have been beautiful.

I had heard of that alien place, didn't realise they'd shut down, I guess it was the pandemic that stopped travellers for months (I will add that I've never understood the urge to destroy stuff like that). Hopefully you get to see Uluru with some water running off it, they've had a lot of rain recently, that's a rare sight to see for anyone.

Failing in your context is stepping on a curled-up snake you didn't see. Don't let it 'bug' you; you'll still see lots and lots of things to reminisce about when you're old and grey! Btw, I LOVE your exuberance! Wish it was contagious through videos..... Best wishes for the rest of your trip!

You didnt fail. Alice and Uluru were obviously calling you. Youve got this far maybe checkout Coober Pedy as well now. Gee you were brave in the ghost town. Bit disappointing, to know tho there are people just vandalising and busting up whats been left in this abandoned town. Stay safe 🤗

You're unlucky, at the beginning of January this year a Cyclone(Hurricane) parked itself over that area for over a week and dumped an ungodly amount of rain which washed away the existing bridge in Fitzroy Crossing. The temporary one I guess is closed now as well from those recent rains. You could detour south past Alice Springs and backtrack over the Nullarbor then head north, it's really fantastic this year up there.

You guys are so great! I am very sorry you missed doing the lap for yourselves but there's always next time! And just think, you'd not have seen that bizarre alien world...now there is outback adventure 😉😆. Phew, what a place! Thanks for sharing it. I loved the Devil's Marbles. They are beautiful. Kinda reminds me of the NZ Moraki Boulders, but they are on a beach. My Dad thought they were the most boring things! My sister and I insisted on seeing them each time we went that way LOL. Sweet potatoes are yuk...sorry Tia! But my taste buds tell me not to eat them or face the consequences! I'm with Cheveyo on this one 🖒🖒🖒. Adore the bloopers!!! Stay safe guys.

I have only just discovered your channel and videos and am loving them. As a former soldier in the Australian Army I was posted to Darwin, but Adelaide is home, and am enjoying the videos of your trip down the Stuart Highway. Bringing back some memories. I notice you didn't video the town in the centre of Australia, The town of Ti Tree is the same distance from from the coast in every direction. Love the postcard too.

Ah thats such a bummer!! Definitely not a "fail" though, please don't think of it that way. A fail would be something that you could control that you lost control of - you cant control unseasonal flooding in the northwest of Australia! It so exciting that you're continuing on south to see Uluru, you guys can always see Broome next time ❤️❤️ The alien stuff was hilarious btw (and very creepy!!). Elvis was clearly abducted by them a few times.

This is authentic to a lot of people’s experience crossing northern parts of Australia. A lot of people end up having to add several days to their trip to get back home via some pretty extreme detours due to flooding… or fires depending on the season.

Ahh! "The best laid plans of mice and men do oft times go awry" - Robert Burns. Seems to me that Uluru wasn't going to let you leave... especially after viewing so many of the 'big things' around Australia, you practically tempted fate! 😉 Intrepid travellers are frequently tested and challenged to find a different path that others might follow - you passed the test with flying colours!!! 🏆 NO fails or flies on either of you - keep up the good job. 😃

this video was so good. I'm a 54 year old Australian woman and went to the NT a couple of times when I was a kid. My uncle was a ranger and worked at Uluru when it was till called Ayers Rock so we drove from country Victoria to visit in the 70s, way before there was a resort there. Then they moved to Katherine and my parents took us on a trip around Australia and we went to Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek and Darwin. I have photos of the Devils Marbles and I remember being Stranded in Alice Springs because the Todd river was flooded. The outback is such a strange place and your travels have made me nostalgic. I"m really enjoying it thanks xx

So what you guys are experiencing here with your "national diversion" to Perth via other routes is what I lived with for all my adult life teaching up north in Western Australia. You would plan a holiday for 6 months or so and one lousy night of rain would see all these plans go to hell. I have spent weeks at some places waiting for waters to drop and for bridges to be repaired - so absolutely the right decision. Once you get over that disappointment though you'll make all new memories and share those as is your journey now. There's so much to see on the way back to Perth that there will be heaps of new fresh content for you guys to show. Just no more "GIANT" stuff though please!!! Haha just joking. Love your channel - so nice and fresh and as an Aussie nice to see your take on things downunder. All the best - - your videos make my day!🚙🚙🚙🚙

This is a "no fail" trip! I'm very much looking forward to seeing Alice Springs and Uluru through your lens. We've been to Australia several times but haven't managed to get there. Also, there's a great book called "A Town Like Alice" written by Nevil Shute, which is a highly entertaining read. loved your Whitehaven postcard!

Dont tell blueberry...but you could just sell (trade in) her and buy a 4x4 and continue your lap, if you are desperate to finish it (although, for "blueberry" money, you're probably not gonna get much of a 4x4, so you've probably made the more prudent choice). Cheers!

You will be driving past the Flinders Ranges just before you arrive at Port Augusta in South Australia. Definitely worth visiting with spectacular scenery and gravel roads that are doable in a 2WD. Enjoy the remainder of your journey 👍

I'm sad you guys couldn't complete the big lap with Blueberry but a little silver lining is that you can go to Owl Springs! and now you have even more reason to visit Australia again! Also, the drone footage is gorgeous! As always, thanks for sharing your adventures!

Sweet Potatoes = Goated Potatoes In that breath, I was cheering for you guys to finish the loop. Sorry we make crappy bridges :p but you gave it a serious red hot go and im equally impressed. Great work, and you've secured a fan to watch the rest of your travels!

Hi Tia and Cheveyo. This is the 1st time I have seen your channel and came across this because I am researching for our lap. When I saw blueberry in the background early on in the video I thought this is not something that I am seeking (ie want more 4WD tracks) but the energy and care you have for each other captivated me. The 2 of you really have something special together, its very evident in this video, you are very lucky. Totally loved this episode and now going to view the rest of your videos because this was so entertaining. BTW, the edits at the end summed everything up when Tia said said I love you. I am not an emotional person at all, quite a stereo typical Aussie Male, but honestly, that was nice to see and summed up nicely what was very obvious to see during the video. Thanks for sharing, I will remember this video for a long time. Cheers, Terry.
