Thank you for this. I figured out that a lot of what you did is actually not necessary. Especially if you can apply minimum heat (or no heat at all) to remove the display, you don't need to disconnect or remove anything except these connectors after removing the back plate: > Optional: Disconnect the battery cable. This is not necessary, but for safety reasons and to avoid short circuiting anything. NOTE: You do not need to remove the battery itself! > Disconnect the display cable. > Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable. > Disconnect the capacitive buttons cable (the back and recent buttons). That's it. You don't need to unscrew or remove the logic board, any of the other connectors, any other component. After that, simply do this: 1) Attempt to gently remove the display from the front, taking care you route the three cables you disconnected through their holes. 2) Remove the fingerprint sensor and capacitive buttons from the old display (as shown in video, although you can remove them as a single unit too) and affix them to the new display. 3) Route the connectors from the new display through the three holes and connect them back to the logic board (for display) or second board (for sensor and buttons). 4) Put the black stickers on the connectors and snap on the back plate. 5) Complete the installation as per video.
@adtc5 жыл бұрын
BONUS TIP: You may want to test your new display before installation, especially as your supplier won't accept return if you already installed it. To do so, after removing the back plate: 1) Disconnect ONLY the old display cable and connect the new display cable by laying out the display in an upside down fashion over the battery and logic board. 2) Power on your phone. If the new display works, you should see the phone booting as normal on the new display. (Remember that the capacitive buttons and the fingerprint sensor are still in the old display.) 3) Test that the display functions properly. Also test that the touch sensitivity works fine. 4) Once done testing, power off the phone. 5) Lift up the new display, then carefully disconnect the display cable. 6) Proceed with the removal of old display and installation of new one.

Bought screen and tools on Amazon and used this video to repair DIY. It worked! Thank you! A couple things were a bit off: you didn't mention removing SIM card, Also the adhesive on my phone was basically non-existent (screen fell out with no heat). Luckily I bought that separately. All in all, great guide and saved me $100+ from having someone else do it.

Just wanted to thank you for posting this. I had some water damage a while ago and was dreading changing this. I dropped the phone and the touch screen DIED. So with no options I ordered the screen, ran the video. DONE. Only a few minor recoverable issues. Notably moving the buttons from the old screen to the new screen. I highly recommend watching this and doing in order and also taking your time to find and use the right tool. Force fitting at this level could cause problems.

Smart Easy Repair, interesting how the screen replacement is brighter, color saturation is different. (bought on Amazon for shipping). Snappier response, but I'm sure that was the due to the original water damage. I was experiencing ghost hits, etc.
@SmartEasyDIYer7 жыл бұрын
+David Kamatoy OK yeah sometimes after markets are little different. I guess the main thing in your situation is that it works well though.

So the quality of the screens is substantially weaker at this current price point. Lower end of the screen cracks easily. When I compare the original to the replacement its an obvious difference. The original has flexibility and replacement not. Thinking of ordering the actual frame + screen from china? Any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks for the video! I am planning to replace my oneplus 2 screen in a couple days, and I will use your video as my guide. I am preparing to buy things that I need right now. I have read some comments; do I really need to buy extra adhesive for the screen repair? You mentioned 2mm double sided tape. And what do you use this adhesive for?
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+joko subarjo That is only if you buy the screen without frame. If you get the one with the frame pre assembled it is already glued together which makes the process easier and faster. The adhesive is for sealing the screen to the frame. You're welcome. Best of luck!

Hi! Thank you so much for the video! I just replaced my screen and everything works fine except now my sim card doesn't work-- it shows as no bars. I have tried it with another sim card and it still won't work. During the process of removing the bottom of the signal antenna/cable, I accidentally removed the bottom part of what the cable was attached to in the midframe, but when reassembling, I just placed it allback in place and secured it. Could this be what is causing my sim card not to work??? How can I fix it? Should I solder it together? Thanks :(((

Hey, it's a great video! I will be repairing my shattered screen using this video as reference. However, I have one question before I start. Do I need to apply an adhesive or a double sided tape between the lcd and frame? Can't I re-use the existing adhesive and attach the new lcd screen?
@NitishDadannagari7 жыл бұрын
If adhesive is needed to stick other connections as well, which one would you recommend? I don't have a heat gun with me now, instead is it recommended to heat it by putting near an electric stove?
@SmartEasyDIYer7 жыл бұрын
+Nitish Rao Dadannagari Yes I would recommend using new adhesive between the LCD and frame. I believe I have a link in the video description below the video where you can find some. I would just recommend like a 2 mm double-sided adhesive they're all pretty good. I'm not sure about the electric stove I've never tried it just be very careful.

Are there any risks of losing ur pics, files and data? And once you turn on ur phone after replacing the screen, do we need to login on everywhere again?
@SmartEasyDIYer5 жыл бұрын
No I’ve never seen where it loses anything since the memory is on the motherboard itself. It’s a good idea o backup your phone now and then anyways, so if youre concerned you could do that just in case. It’s been fine whenever I’ve done it.

Unless you somehow fried the motherboard in the process no. In any normal situation when replacing the screen it should just be as if you turned your phone back on.

What adhesive do you recommend as most of the original is unusable. Is it okay to use silicone? I have a black tube of that. Around the touch/home/fingerprint sensor the seal is bad as thats where my glass shattered so need to re-adhere that. Thanks to the board for any help!
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+Hawaiiguy Kailua I would usually recommend a double-sided adhesive strip. I believe I have a link in the video description where you can find it if not I can send you one. If you have the silicone stuff you may try it I'm not sure how it worked though.
@hawaiiguykailua69288 жыл бұрын
Smart Easy Repair thanks for the reply, I see 3M makes a tape glue kit that's laser cut for the oneplus one. Will that adhere the metal frame to the lcd digitizer replacement? I think the ONE is a plastic so not sure if it's designed to adhere to aluminum, the size should be close enough for the edges I would think, then some roll tape for the new placement of sensors speakers etc? What mm do you recommend or should I get say 1-3 assortment?
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+Hawaiiguy Kailua Yea the double sided should stick fine even if its aluminum. Usually I use 2mm but sometimes it's handier to have something narrower and wider so the 1 to 3 assortment would be a good idea probably.

Sorry one other question, when I removed the battery I noticed the ribbon going into the battery has some play. I think the adhesive is not completely stuck anyone And yeah still rocking this phone for 4.5/5 years only now it is starting to show it's age, because of the drop :'(

Wow nice long life! It’s worth a try. I don’t know if it’ll be the same again. If not I think screens are pretty cheap for it anymore if you want to try replacing it.

screen swap went well but now the power and volume buttons come out. I didn't even touch them so it's a bit strange. any suggestions?

When I unstuck the battery some black stuff came off the bottom and stuck to the battery, is this ok?
@MattTheriot8 жыл бұрын
Thank you SO MUCH! Screen replacements are a bitch, especially when it comes to the heat activated adhesive and when you are dealing with a shattered screen to be replaced. My replacement went smoothly, I wound up using a tad bit of hot glue since I didn't have replacement adhesive. I've done other screen replacements that DID NOT go well, like the Xperia z3. It's still sitting next to me, practically useless.

+Matt Theriot Yes they can be a pain. I'm glad the video helped thanks for the feedback.

I just replaced the screen for my phone but I noticed that on the right side, it doesn't quite stick to the adhesive, even after holding for a few minutes. Do you have any tips or suggestions?
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+matthew msh Did you try heating it up a little with a hair dryer and then holding it?
@msh97058 жыл бұрын
+Smart Easy Repair I did, yeah, it just doesn't seem to want to sit properly

I have the same problem, but on the left side, did you manage to fix it ?
@msh97058 жыл бұрын
+Pootis I ended up just using some clear tape on some weak points to hold it down and then put my case on over top

+matthew msh And how about your fingerprint sensor , is tight or a bit loose ? for me it's loose

So I had an interesting situation. I replaced the screen and the screen works great. But now the phone is extremely slow in its responsiveness. ITs takes a few seconds for it to respond to anything I do on the touch screen. Scrolling for example follows me after a delay and as if it skips a bunch of frames. What do you think this could be?
@zsoltiZsolt7 жыл бұрын
Hi, just did the replacement, and faced the same issue. Also the screen lock itself from time to time. Did you managed to find the problem?
@yuriyzinchenko58247 жыл бұрын
no I had no luck still. I tried flashing a different room thinking it might be software but that didn't help. I'll keep you updated if I get anything. yeah mine locks from time to time as well.

I'll try to reassemble this again, and if it's still bad, I'll try to get another from the seller. :/
@zsoltiZsolt7 жыл бұрын
Well today I reassembled the phone. Maybe it was the cable of the screen, but don't know really. But. After some time it gets overheated, and starts the same thing again. If I let it cool down, than I can use it again for ~10 mins. Next week I'll try to re grease its motherboard, maybe somehow I scratched the grease off.

I think I found my problem. At least in the last 30 mins, it worked. My issue was with the antenna. It was in place, and connected but I haven't clicked it into its place properly. Try to push the connections a little harder, it helped me. Good luck with your phone.

a question, i replaced another oneplus 2 screen (seccond time i did this job), but now the flash torch and the proximity sensor are no longer working. I accidently cut the copper tape in half, could the reason be something about that?

+Enes Said Sezer Yes I suppose it could I’m not exactly sure what powers that.

I followed the steps and replaced the screen with a new one. But the problem i'm facing is that the screen starts showing the one plus logo and then the screen goes black. I removed the back covers and saw that there was a light running under the bottom board. Have I done something wrong?
@vj9115 жыл бұрын
@@ewan8939 nope. I purchsed another screen and same issue. Im being told its the problem with the screen that i received. It was damaged. But no clue whatsoever. I checked with oneplus team and they suggested i send them the phone and they will have a look at it. Then only can they describe what the issue is.

hey when doing this processes, i got stuck at removing the motherboard like it was really hard to remove and i was scared that i was going to break something. this resulted to me giving up :P. any help?
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+Liks A Since you're replacing the screen anyways it sounds like you could try heating with a hairdryer on the backside a little bit at a time and just carefully work at it and see if it'll pry up.
@GamingCreeper1018 жыл бұрын
Smart Easy Repair so I'm supposed to heat the motherboard?
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+JasserA Well on the side of where the screen is it's ok to get a little at a time to soften the adhesive. It should come loose pretty easy if it's all disconnected.

Hello i broked my screen and i'd like to remplace it but i'm afraid to damage the phone by changing the screen, i would like to change the screen without the frames, did someone do that without having DIY skills? Is this tutorial is for anyone even it's suppose to be simple ? otherwise good tutorial
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+Couffer Woods Well some diy skills help but having the right part and a few of the right tools make it easier too. Get a decent screwdriver that won't strip out your screws. I would check to see if the screen with frame is affordable for you cuz it would be a lot easier for you than without frame especially if you're a little nervous going into it. I have links for the tools and part in the video description of it helps you.
@prenomnom84568 жыл бұрын
+Smart Easy Repair Thanks but I don't want to replace the frames because it's too expensive and I can't find some but I will try this and I would be careful but is it that difficult to separate the frame from de screen?
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
No it's really not too bad I didn't think. You prob will need something for heat though like a hair dryer..
