I had to have looked at at least 10 different youtubers' reviews for the OnePlus Open. I was already convinced that I was upgrading to this phone instead of the Fold5 next month in January when I can afford it (I'm still using and currently typing on a Fold2 so its finally time to upgrade and I've been saving to do so) after the first 3 or 4 reviews. The other 6 or 7 I just keep watching because I'm just so excited to get it, I can't wait! After having used the Fold2 for the last 3 years and loving the hell out of it; I haven't felt like I've been missing anything in the foldable market really until I saw the HONOR Magic V2 and the OnePlus Open. I would honestly get the Magic V2 in a heartbeat but there's no set release date for the global launch of that phone, but the Open is just as appealing to me. I fell in love with foldables ever since I first laid eyes on the Fold2 and now being able to have one with AN OUTER DISPLAY THAT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE A REGULAR PHONE is the biggest gamechanger to me and what I'm most excited for. The great software, really good camera for a foldable, the current gen panel tech, the IR blaster, etc are all great bonuses, but I swear the biggest perk to me is gonna be the outer display that I can actually use like a standard phone. Typing on the Z Fold's outer screen is so bad lmao

The OnePlus selling point was top specs at undercutting prices. This time they got the specs mostly right, but not the low price. If they want to charge similar to Samsung, they need to provide the missing features like DEX / stylus support / wireless charging etc, or at least excel in some other department enough that other brands can't compete - for instance if the charging speed was 200w, it would attract a portion of buyers like busy parents or executives who would otherwise not consider it. Samsung has their whole ecosystem built over the years, apart from DEX/stylus etc, so a lot of people stick to it. Google does photography really well, and it has a unique form factor that suits productivity as well as videos (extra-wide front screen & landscape orientation when opened). What unique points does OnePlus have?

There is an "extra dim" mode on the Fold FYI. As OLEDs get more and more dim, they lose color accuracy. So this mode helps me realize that I'm going to get odd colors when that dim.

It’s quite funny Dave didn’t get the most important choice of this phone: the material choice on the back is to immediately make a connection with the old photo cameras. It’s the texture and material they used.

Would love to see this phone in person. I love that we have options in foldables. I have the Pixel and love the design just wish it was a little taller and had a better processor. The Z fold 5 has a beautiful display, but that skinny outer screen is not for me. The OnePlus phone looks really nice. I like that camera design on the back. Makes it look like one of those old mini cameras. For a 1st time product for them it looks nice!

I saw the Oppo version of this phone in China and it really does look incredible, the crease is almost gone. If I was in the market for a foldable, I would definitely get this.

Great review as always Are the Oneplus open and Oppo Find N3 the same in each and every aspect ?

Eye of the beholder and all that... I think the old school Hasselblad camera texture looks cool.

It's amazing how design is so subjective. I actually love the soft leather back. Glossy glass backs are so meh (in my personal opinion). What I was sad to hear was the camera isn't as good as Samsung cameras. If it was, I'd have seriously considered it over the soon to release S24 Ultra

I think the crease becomes more prominent with use. As the phone ages, the crease too will deepen

You have the same length of video on the same topic with MKBHD - 12 minutes 2 seconds. Nice!

i like the back it reminds me of the sandstone black a bit and it's minimal industrial and not over stylized, doesn't look like a curvy SUV.

1:20 I think the Samsung Fold has a narrow front screen because they wanted the internal screen to have a 4:3 ratio, which is very practical, it's like a notebook.

Hey Dave, the pen actually has stylus support. Both inner and outer screens support the Oppo Pen. Tested by some other bloggers

Yeah, I actually love the aesthetic, I suppose it's personal. this is the first foldable I would even consider, outside of the fact that foldables are insanely expensive.

why there is 3 frames of blackness at 1:42?

I'm hoping that they push out updates to fix the cameras. That's the bummer for me. Looks good overall.
