Man I love how this phone looks. I'm tired of glass backs and if you're gonna have a camera bump that large, making it a circle gives it some nice flair. Still not ready to jump onto a foldable yet, but maybe by the time I'm due for an upgrade they'll have ironed out most of the caveats. Glad to see some strong competition for Samsung though.

@@harshrawat2893I have had my z fold 3 since it was released and have had zero issues. No breaks or durability problems. I work at a factory and I have drop it a few times on to steel staircases and onto concrete and gravel. I had it in a hardshell plastic slim case and I had no problems. The performance and convenience of the phone and larger available screen has been a game changer in my daily life. I can't say enough. I think there are plenty of gives and takes regardless of you choose a foldable or a regular form factor smartphone. To each their own.

They could have absolutely disrupted the market and taken a huge share by pricing aggressively, nearer to 1000 (which is a very realistic price, common in the Chinese market). Instead they seem to be blindly following other much more recognised brands, expecting to do equally well even though they're not so well known or trusted. How are they expecting people to choose them over the established players? They don't even provide the Samsung specs, like wireless charging, IP rating, stylus support, DEX, etc nor do they offer Google's photography quality or the more usable wide/landscape form factor.

This phone is aimed at tech enthusiasts and well, some rich Asians, duh. I think it was a great phone, though it would be nice if they'd dropped it down to 1k. They would be the only solid foldable at that price apart from techno's phone which wasn't even that good at 800 usd(?). The OnePlus selling point was top specs at undercutting prices. This time they got the specs mostly right, but not the low price. If they want to charge similar to Samsung, they need to provide the missing features like DEX / stylus support / wireless charging etc, or at least excel in some other department enough that other brands can't compete - for instance if the charging speed was 200w, it would attract a portion of buyers like busy parents or executives who would otherwise not consider it. Samsung has their whole ecosystem built over the years, apart from DEX/stylus etc, so a lot of people stick to it. Google does photography really well, and it has a unique form factor that suits productivity as well as videos (extra-wide front screen & landscape orientation when opened). What unique points does OnePlus have?

I had to have looked at at least 10 different youtubers' reviews for the OnePlus Open. I was already convinced that I was upgrading to this phone instead of the Fold5 next month in January when I can afford it (I'm still using and currently typing on a Fold2 so its finally time to upgrade and I've been saving to do so) after the first 3 or 4 reviews. The other 6 or 7 I just keep watching because I'm just so excited to get it, I can't wait! After having used the Fold2 for the last 3 years and loving the hell out of it; I haven't felt like I've been missing anything in the foldable market really until I saw the HONOR Magic V2 and the OnePlus Open. I would honestly get the Magic V2 in a heartbeat but there's no set release date for the global launch of that phone, but the Open is just as appealing to me. I fell in love with foldables ever since I first laid eyes on the Fold2 and now being able to have one with AN OUTER DISPLAY THAT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE A REGULAR PHONE is the biggest gamechanger to me and what I'm most excited for. The great software, really good camera for a foldable, the current gen panel tech, the IR blaster, etc are all great bonuses, but I swear the biggest perk to me is gonna be the outer display that I can actually use like a standard phone. Typing on the Z Fold's outer screen is so bad lmao

Some of the specs are great, but overall is it really top-tier? No stylus support, no IP rating, no wireless charging, no DEX equivalent, not significantly lower weight (some foldables are closer to 200g), not much slimmer (some foldables are under 10mm, like the Honor Magic V2), etc. It would have been great to see some features no competition comes close to, such as 150w-200w charging like on some of their other phones, or at least aggressive pricing till then - something like 1000 that most foldables sell for in China.

Also, I feel like they could have made a lower version with 12GB + 256GB and could've easily priced it at $1499, and that would've been such a crazy VFM at that price

If Sammy would make the Fold 6 this aspect ratio/size, it would be perfect! For me, OneUI, Dex, software, feel etc. is important. Cameras on the 5 are fine. Not best but fine.

Oh no. I love this look of the phone and I adore foldables - I have the Samsung Fold 4, but faux leather makes it faux luxurious.

I like the look of the camera module on this phone wayyyyy better than on Oneplus' regular phones and its a reason why I didn't consider buying their slab phones. If they had this module on their regular phones I'd definitely consider getting it if they price isn't too high.

I think SAMSUNG's form factor for the Fold phones is justified for a theoretically better experience on consuming media horizontaly. Anyway, I still think this ONEPLUS Open is quite impressive and it would be my choice when shopping for a foldable at this moment.

You're delusional. The outer display has a garbage aspect ratio for 21:9 movies and especially for 16:9 movies which will give you huge black bars on the sides. Z Fold's outer display is meant to be used ONE-HANDED for quick tasks. Not for watching movies, etc.

Fair pricing all things considered. I still hate no wireless charging but fine, I can deal with that in exchange for better display and performance and long battery life. Preordered at launch!

I might be willing to go back to OnePlus if they didn't continually send out updates that didn't break their phones. I thought the merger with ColorOS was supposed to make things more stable?

I guess I'm in the minority thinking this could be the perfect foldable, IMO. I literally couldn't care less about your 3 "misses". Don't use or want Dex, same with wireless charging, same with pen support.

Great video and takes :) but one thing I completely disagree with is the back of the phone (camera hump) I think it looks so much more clean and well designed, compared to the other OP phone you showed it looked tacky. But I do agee with the faux leather back, it just looks bad, the other green variant has a much nicer look. This is the first foldable I'm seriously considering.

It's amazing how design is so subjective. I actually love the soft leather back. Glossy glass backs are so meh (in my personal opinion). What I was sad to hear was the camera isn't as good as Samsung cameras. If it was, I'd have seriously considered it over the soon to release S24 Ultra

Figured out why Samsung has a tall display when folded; it's done that way so that when you unfold, you get a "main" display that's roughly 4:3 aspect ratio. For the OnePlus Open, the unfolded display is 2440 X 2268 - that's pretty much a square display

There is an "extra dim" mode on the Fold FYI. As OLEDs get more and more dim, they lose color accuracy. So this mode helps me realize that I'm going to get odd colors when that dim.
