I have/had three grandfathers ( my mother, fathers, and step-fathers) I grew up and loved every single one of them, and they all taught me different things. My fathers father was very religious and taught me about God. My step-father loved everyone he knew and taught me to love one another, and my mothers father, was raised in a working family, and has been working since he was nine, he teaches me what any easy life I have been given. I love this song because it reminds me, that even though I lost two of my grandfathers, they will always be with me.

I only had one grandfather who was part of my life. He was an actual preacher. This song really hits deeply, since as of 2015, it's been 6 years since he's been with us. He had a wisdom that you couldn't buy and was a man of God who loved all and was loved by all. This song really makes me miss and appreciate him even more so than I already do. I miss you grandpa. 💔

I'm not at all religious nor do i want to be and this was seriously beautiful. "He was a million miles from a million dollars, but you could never spend his wealth" is one incredible example of how this song doesn't appeal to just those who are religious in a way to make it touching
@ArinnMackenzie10 жыл бұрын
This is why I don't go to church. Church people single out others. Like, my relationship is with God. We are on good terms. I don't need to publicize or materialize that relationship. I also don't need to be apart of some club that believes they are more elite. That doesn't create peace and peace is what I believe in. I don't mean to step on people's toes, but hell that's what I think and I said it. Feel free to hate on it.

If you continually feel sorry for yourself or are unhappy with the cards you've been dealt or feel what you have is not enough, you'll automatically attract more of that. It is because it is your dominant way of thinking. The greater your gratitude for the things you do already have can only open doors of abundance. That can start with a prayer, one small positive thought, etc., until it is habit. The lyrics mean pick yourself up, dust yourself off, b e l i e v e and watch miracles happen. It's because you decided to focus on good. That's what it means .. "God helps those who l e a r n to help themselves" the choice is ours. Cheers

No! You have it all wrong! Jesus tought us to help ourselves, and we continue to do so by getting jobs, as says the phrase, if you want to succeed, you must try. You can't get a job without going to an interview, you cant help yourself, gods not gonna help you, thats how we learn. we dont give a child candy untill they say please, but we dont say pleaase for them do we?

For everyone saying that the lyric "God only helps those who learn to help themselves" is confusing or wrong, let me explain. When you become a Christian, you're choosing to help yourself. God uses things like poverty, hunger, and just plain old struggle so that people go looking for the hope that is Jesus Christ. When you decide to confide in God, helping yourself, God will give you the strength and resources you need to get through one battle after the next. I hope this helps you understand a little more what this song is talking about.

In this song the singer(Ryan Tedder) is explaining the wisdom he learned from his Grandfather on how to life his life. The phrase "a million miles from a million dollars but you can never spend his wealth" is referring to the fact that even though his Grandfather did not have much in terms of money and possessions he had a wealth that was priceless - wisdom. This wisdom has obviously guided Ryan into his success enough that wanted to honor both his Grandfather and God in this song.

Love your thoughts on the lyrics! To be clear though... no where in the Bible does it state that God only helps those that help themselves... "God helps those who help themselves" is probably the most often quoted phrase that is not found in the Bible. This saying is usually attributed to Ben Franklin, quoted in Poor Richard's Almanac in 1757. In actuality, it originated from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled Discourses Concerning Government. Whatever the original source of this saying, the Bible teaches the opposite. God helps the helpless! Isaiah 25:4 declares, "For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..." Romans 5:6 tells us, "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." In terms of salvation, we are all utterly helpless. We are all infected by sin (Romans 3:23), and condemned as a result of that sin (Romans 6:23). Nothing we can do on our own can remedy this situation (Isaiah 64:6). Thankfully, God is the helper of the helpless. While we were still sinners, Jesus died for us (Romans 5:8). Jesus paid the penalty that we were incapable of paying (2 Corinthians 5:21). God provided the "help" that we need precisely because we could not help ourselves. Apart from salvation, there is perhaps a way that the concept "God helps those who help themselves" is correct. As an example, if you asked me to help you move a piece of furniture, but then just watched me as I moved the furniture for you, I was not actually helping you. I would be doing the work for you. Many Christians fall into the trap of inactivity. Many Christians ask God for help, but then expect God to do everything Himself. They excuse this by pointing to the fact that God will provide according to His will and in His timing. However, this is not a reason for inactivity. As a specific example, if you are in need of a job, ask the Lord to help you find a job - but then be active in actually looking for a job. While it is in His power to do so, it is highly unlikely that God will cause employers to come looking for you! Read more: www.gotquestions.org/God-help-themselves.html#ixzz3Pqc77PAH

though i never sold drugs.... this song reminds me of my grandfather, even before he passed away. That man taught me about loving myself and how generosity is the key to an open heart. The man was braver than I ever could be, the strongest person I'll ever know in this life time. It was crazy, he went through so much growing up and making mistakes... he taught me the right way of being a human and gave me the wisest advice that would open my eyes to another's view. I'll forever miss my Grandpa, the man that was more of a father to me than my own dad and step dad. I wish you were here just a little longer for me to truly make you proud. I was hoping for you to walk me down the isle next spring....

I think this song is a story about a young boy who died when he was very young, he later became an angel and knew the way of "god", he helped others, kind of like a guardian angel. I think the grandfather is a figure of speech, as in maybe someone who taught him a lot not only when he was alive but also when he died. Don't just shake your head at my comment, listen to the song over again and think about what I wrote when you do, tell me how you feel.
