But we took chances, actually created some great chances and ultimately let in 2. Not sure what you expected out of what are we ranked 49th against an established world power for decades. Canada’s glaring weakness is in midfield and it showed. The lack of finishing was unfortunate and I cannot believe how many times the back was line was picked off. Nothing but praise for Crepeau. We need to make a few changes.

The 4-4-2 doesn't suit us in big games. David & Larin don't get involved enough and it leads to us being dominated in midfield and not having much possession.

Well, I think the comment “not worried about defence” is a very good sign. That means that the learning curve has been ascended very, very quickly. After two games. Two games. I find that amazing. Yes, they still have more (lots more, I imagine) to do on D but maybe now some attention can be focused on offensive schemes. KJ pointed out how well the forwards frustrated the middle of the field for the opposition. I believe there are many more gears on this team. Jesse Marsch recognizes that potential and will find ways to unlock them. I am hopeful and anticipatory. Vamos Canada 🇨🇦

Cyle Larin had a nice cross into the box. I get the nice thoughts about David and Larin with praise for shutting down the channels but that being said…goals change games. I could see where Canada does not win a single game in group stage. No finishers

The crowd was probably subdued because there weren't that many fans FROM Argentina. Sure, they wore the jersey but actual fans, who wull probably travel later, are always chanting, not waiting for messi... 🙄

KJ's point about Larin @ 14:30 needs to be preached! Larin has the most game sense on the pitch - any anyone who is dismissing Larin needs to start paying more attention. Since the wins against the US and Mexico, we think of Larinisimo as a goal-scorer, but if you were paying more attention back then, you would notice that he had defensive goal-line headers that saved games. There are at least a dozen examples of Larin's game-sense we ignore too easily. Hutch was a grandmaster at this, Oso's understated most valuable quality is this, and Crepeau clearly has it to a sacrificial fault. I really do hope Canada scores in the next two games... And I wouldn't be surprised if a goal or an assist comes by the way of Larin's play.

Gareth makes a valuable first point regarding where they were coming from, but needs to zoom out more: Remember Floro? Benito Floro would manage the team to try to peel points. There was no belief, so they would play defensive, low block, safe... it was very pessimistic and counterproductive. Let's hope that March's "if we play it" the players will come management style works out - because us Canadians believe that Team Canada is more competitive than our recent competitive results indicate, and let's hope the latest crop of talent starts executing to the potential of said belief/hope! I guess we will see in short order... >_>

Canada was very lucky the game ended 2-0. After 1-0, Canada's goal should have been on damage control. The way they pushed high up the pitch after 1-0, the game could have easily been 4-0. Their goal should have been not to win, but to keep the score down and look forward to the Chile/Peru games.
