One of my favorite play-throughs you’ve done. Bravo! I really appreciate your camera close-ups and editing. Plus your enthusiasm is always wonderful as well :) It was nice to hear your thoughts as compared to AE. I enjoy this more for the same reasons you mentioned: quicker and easier to get playing and more interesting choices to be made while playing instead of setting up the market. And yes, looking forward to more content for it as well!

Very fun twist on Aeon's End mechanics. Sspecially how you can modify boss difficulty and how it scales witch player count (for us AE works only with two). But after I gathered like everything that came out for AE in here (and my wide makes me prorder ne wthings coming out) I won't dive in anything so similiar. Though your playthrough made me consider this for a moment :)

Fair comments all round. Still waiting for my Kickstarter to arrive, but the streamlined nature is what drove me to back. And sell my Aeon's End sets! Less shelf space is another win

Great video! Curious what you would think of just making the player order 1, 2, Boss, 1, 2, Boss instead of drawing cards?
@OneStopCoopShop

I think that could totally work if you prefer more predictability. It wouldn’t really break anything in the game.

Nice one Colin. Really enjoyed watching along, and thanks for your thoughts at the end. Having never played Aeons End but having watch a ton, the breaches added another ball which you had to juggle. So while the streamlining with the slots makes it easier to get more attacks off, there doesn't seem to be that sense of accomplishment of opening up another breach. It wasn't a fist pumping moment or anything but it I got the impression that it felt like you had made some progression. Am sure many will disagree and like the streamlined play, which is fair enough. I like the comic book art style but board looks very busy, but that may just be me and/or watching on my laptop, and it's less impactful irl. Please don't think I'm being down on the game, I'm going to be up for any future playthroughs of Astro Knights!! 😁😁👍🏽👍🏽

I really do miss t he breaches, and actually because of this game I have fallen back in love with AE hahaha! I am in the midst of the second campaign with my wife. So yeah the game re-kindled my love for AE which now at this point I would say I like more than Astro Knights. The biggest thing I love about Astro Knights are the variable market cards. Thanks for watching Paul!

I only have Outcasts and Past and Future so take this with a grain of salt. This feels more like a pure deckbuilder whereas Aeon's End feels like you're playing a character. Aeon's End characters have more interesting unique starters and powers. And every character has a different breach setup and some even have unique breaches. You end up playing the characters very differently. The fixed market allows you to buy spells and gems that really play to your characters strengths. In AK, you just buy what's available. You don't have to an option to buy the things to create combos because you don't know what will be available. Most of the 7-9 cost weapons have abilities that will combo but the problem is that you don't have much control over what cards that they'll combo with. In Aeon's End, you're designing your deck with way more information in mind. So the satisfaction comes from having a really optimal deck at the end of the game. Add in treasures and you have even more ways to optimize. But the weird thing is that I think Astro Knights is more difficult. You can see what you want to accomplish at the beginning of the game in Aeon's End. And if you succeed in building your deck that way, you will have no problems. You will be able to do a ton of damage and your cards will flow more smoothly than they ever will in Astro Knights. Aeon's End characters are more complex but they end up being way more powerful when played properly. Astro Knights characters are simpler and weaker but the bosses ramp up much faster. You'll encounter powerful effects in the early-mid game that would only appear in the late game of Aeon's End. And a lot of the bosses have a lot of minions that end up being really tanky when the boss levels up. The bosses having unique decks means that each boss is based around one specific thing. Every boss turn feels bad. But you can use that to your advantage because you know what cards are in the boss deck. In Aeon's End, the basic nemesis cards are random but they might be trivial and they often are. I think the one of the best parts of Astro Knights is that doesn't replace Aeon's End. They both have their strengths and I find reasons to play both. They both offer different playing experiences and I'm excited for the future of both of them.

@@JELIFISH19 I think the biggest difference is that you want less economy in this game. There are no powers to buy off, so you can get by so long as you can buy decent weapons. In Aeon's End having someone who goes for enough economy to reliably have 8 to spend can be a strategy, whereas here it would be foolish. The expensive weapon deck is more of a "nice to have if it lines up" thing than a strategy. I think the sweet spot is the weapons that cost 5. I generally destroy the ones that cost 6 with cards that do that. And I find myself making my first buy a weapon here fairly often against minion-heavy bosses like the one fought here.

What does the number in the bottom left of those minions mean? (2+, 3+, and 4). I cannot find a rulebook online right now. Is it for player count? If so, I think there might have been two less minions in that deck 😀

That's just for the start of the game. Remember how i had a bunch of cards in the discard pile at the beginning of the game?
@trlongwell
@trlongwell Жыл бұрын
Not bad. You were buying cards far too late in the game though. Especially the Tech cards. It would have been a lot more effective to overcharge them, or spend your money on powering up. I think I like this one more than Aeon's End, which I like/liked a lot. It's a bit less of a slog, and because their decks are unique, each boss feels like they play more differently than they do in Aeon's End. I do think the highest difficulty might be worse here though. You have to fly by the seat of your pants a bit, and that means you can't necessarily go as fast as you might need to. I've managed to beat Furion on Nightmare, and you really need to get a bit lucky because of how unreasonable he hits once he gets going. (I'm being vague to avoid spoilers.) I do agree that not shuffling is a mechanic that could be explored more. The only other game I can think of besides this one and Aeon's End is Faiyum, which is not a co-op, although it does have a solo mode.

At 20:18 (and onwards) doesn't 'any player' mean 'all players/knights'? At least that's how I would interpret 'any' in most games.
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
Definitely not. To imply that they would want to say “each” or “every”, not “any”. They could have written “any one player” to make it slightly clearer, but the intent is definitely a single knight, chosen by the group, suffers the effect

@@OneStopCoopShop Good to know. Otherwise I would have made the game unnecessarily difficult. 🙂 This is probably a language thing (I'm from the Netherlands.) When I enter the text of 'ASSAULT DROID TYPE-C' in Google Translate, or any other translation service, it translates to 'elke speler...' which means 'every player'. I also tried to translate it to German (our neighboring country) and it translates to 'Jeder Spieler' which also means 'every player'. One of those situations where the text is clear to English speakers but confusing to non native English speakers. edit: I don't know if such a card exists in the game. But if 'any' would be followed by a condition (for instance: 'any player with a health value of 5 or less') would that then mean 'one player with a health value of 5 or less' or 'every player with a health value of 5 or less'?)

Oh no I can hit the boss anytime, just remember those minions tee off each other so gotta keep them under control or I was screwed!
@trlongwell
@trlongwell Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can hit the boss whenever you want. Part of the strategy is figuring out when you need to switch from keeping the minions down to an all-out press to kill the bastard before you run out of time. It isn't so frenetic on Normal difficulty, but the higher ones are very much a race.
