19:34 He says you can't trade a key, but you may give your key to an adjacent Prisoner that doesn't already have one.
@SpencerDBerenz3 жыл бұрын
I see someone has already pointed out the correction at 9:05; when staying, if you discard a monster, it is to replace an illuminated tile for that prisoner. Additionally at 14:55, you move off of a crumbling tile that should become a pit, then move back to it at 16:24 Thank you for the play through. I didn’t know if the monsters were removed once triggered, or only when they hit a prisoner. It made it quite difficult.

This game will be so much fun to play in the dark with just a few candles lighting up the table. Cinema of the mind, as all the best horror movies are. A thematically scary game without being Halloween themed. Thanks for the video Mike, loved it!

I've heard of a few people doing that. Sounds like fun to me, as long as its bright enough for me to see what the heck is going on, lol

Also according to the rules, the monster doesn't actuallly disappear after an attack, but rather becomes a pit.
@nagredmoonstriker252 Жыл бұрын
No, sorry, you have the Wax Eaters confused with Pit Fiends from the Advanced Game monsters. Wax Eaters are removed from the board after attacking (Rules, page 12).
@tttITA10 Жыл бұрын
@@nagredmoonstriker252You are wrong. The reason why the monsters are discarded at page 12 of the rules is that, in the given examples, the players are moving out of the monsters' adjascent squares, taking away the light and making the tiles disappear, which is also why other tiles disapper with the monster at those examples. If still at light, after attacking -- as clearly stated by the rules at page 13, figure 2 -- "the Monster turns into a PIT" (with this exact wording, including the "pit" capitalization). Please correct your comment.
@classic_markle Жыл бұрын
Pg. 13, fig. 2 literally says “after attacking, the monster is removed and GREEN moves onto an existing or newly drawn tile”. Nothing about turning into a pit.
@tttITA10 Жыл бұрын
@@classic_markle I've just checked again and the official website version of the rulebook (dated October 15th 2020) still says they turn into a pit at pg. 13, fig. 2. We are probably looking at different versions of the rule book. I downloaded mine at May 2nd 2023 from the official website, the exact day I posted my original comment. What version are you checking?
@classic_markle Жыл бұрын
@@tttITA10 I was reading the rule book that came with the physical game. Definitely seems like quality control or updates needed on their website (it says the rulebook is from 2020 so before the game came out), but explains why people are seeing different things.

Thank you for the playthrough. A small correction. 9:05 if you stay and the tile to discard is a monster you have to replace one of the adjacent tiles to your current position with the monster.
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Geez! I missed that even though it’s in red in the rules, lol. I’ll add the note to the subtitles, thanks!
@andreasgabel3 жыл бұрын
Happy to help! Luckily it only applies to discarding when you stay, not discarding when hit by a monster, but in that situation at 9:05 it would have been mean anyway ;-)

@Morcarag2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the play through. Just a note, though I don’t think it would have saved you, but players CAN pass keys as a free action to any adjacent connected prisoner. So in the end purple could have passed a key to red, and then immediately picked up the key from the tile they were on. However red still would have been isolated when the key tile turned into a pit there at the end. There were so other tile / illumination shenanigans but so far I have yet to play a clean game without messing up a tile or two of illumination at some point. It does help to have multiple knowledgeable players all keeping track of correct illumination states.

Looks very interesting. Minor corrections I have spotted: 1. After purple actually takes its turn you should have flipped the tile. 2. On 20:00 you should not removed the pit cause red was with line of sight to it.

9:28(ish) I’m pretty sure yellow wouldn’t get hit. Page 12 of the rule book says an empty space without a tile creates an interruption that a Monster cannot see past. Similarly Pits interrupt the path. Thanks for the video! I just got the game and am still learning and making some mistakes.

Do you think the game woild benefit if the set up deck had a bit more structure akin to the likes of Pandemic where you shuffle the path and monster tiles together and divide into piles equalling the number of keys, each pile then have a key shuffled in so that players can expect a ket to come at certain portions of the game?
@OneStopCoopShop11 ай бұрын
It would certainly reduce swinginess and increase strategy, at the cost of also increasing setup time. But it's worth trying!
@LuciTerra666 Жыл бұрын
Tile E4 should have been removed at 7:50. At 9 minutes when Yellow stays, the tile he draws to discard is a monster. That monster should have been laid to replace one of the tiles adjacent to Yellow. At 9:47 when Yellow goes lights out, the areas Yellow was illuminating should have been discards before Blue relit Yellow and Yellow would draw tiles for their new light of sight. 15:37 should have removed tile B2 after Blue moved. 19:42 You CAN give a key to another player if they're right next to you to hand it off on either of the touching players' turns. 20:15 Tile A2 should have been removed when Blue moved. 22:32 Tile B2 should have been removed. 23:28 Tile A5 Should have been removed when Purple moved.

They should include a six sided die so when you fall in the pit it is a random roll on where you start.

@Morcarag2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, despite it being THE key mechanic of the game, and the rules around it being pretty straight forward, every game I’ve played of The Night Cage has had some point of “oh why is that tile still around, it shouldn’t be.” Or more commonly, “oh there should have been a tile here for the last 3 turns but one was never put down.” I’m hoping as I play more the rate of those instances will become fewer and fewer. It pays to try to be extra diligent about checking and double checking the tile states at the end of each turn.
