Nice playthrough, Mike! I did catch one small goof, around the 32:00 mark. See rulebook page 23: “If you are KO’d (lose your last Health chip), your Gearloc Chip and Ini Die come off the Battle Mat immediately and are placed in your Gearloc Prep Area. All slotted Active, Locked, and Backup Plan Dice are removed (Skills are Exhausted) from your mat.” So that fortunate discovery wold have actually been rather unfortunate and you should have lost the consumable die from the active slot
@ionutsandu28304 жыл бұрын
Also around 34:00 you would not have been able to heal nightshade for 1 since you had to revive Duster and you cannot heal both during the same recover phase (unless you used loot or duster’s die #2)

@18:28 The monkey can be hurt, he cannot be directly targeted. for example a grenade could hurt him if the "splash" damage hit him or some other affect caused damage to enemies adjacent to a target and the monkey was adjacent to the target @35:32 I believe as long as you do not heal duster, nightshade would come out. Buff HP is not part of the basic HP pool so duster is still considered to be below max health
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For the monkey, I knew that but didn't say it clearly in the video. I was hoping to get Duster and Nightshade next to him for some sweet 2 damage backstabbing, but couldn't work it out. For the buff HP, I believe Duster was at full health, so barring a true damage attack I would have to ditch the buff before Nightshade would be available. Could be wrong though!

May have missed that with the health. Great video though. You should do a series and do the campaign to show the scars, boons, and being able to potentially use tyrant die!

29:53 Did Duster have the option to re-roll his Defense die to try to get a "2" or another bone?
@AlperAslan19803 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! Just a small note for your watchers: When Duster died on your second day, the locked dice are exhausted (lost in case of your consumable die). The only exception is the easiest difficulty level, which you were not playing ;) And Buff HP should be lost after battle anyway.

Hey Mike, great video. I do have one quick question. During the first raft battle with the two krellin, you rolled Duster's skill die that can cause bleed and rolled a bones. Then at 42:36 you used that die to put the bleed effect on the dragon whelp and it looked like you may have re-rolled it. Is that optional with skill dice? I have always just placed them in my back-up plan immediately if I roll a bones.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
This is a mistake I made when playing the first edition (the rule isn't as clear as I'd like in the rulebook), but yes, you can choose not to use a skill die after you see the result. So if you bleed doesn't go off, as it didn't there, I can put the die back on my board and try again later. I don't get the bone, of course. Now, there are exceptions, but they are listed specifically on gearloc boards. As an example, Boomer from the base game is forced to use her grenade results generally, even if it hurts her allies. Also, some skill dice have RED bones (you'll see this with my use of the Ferocity wolf die in the video). Those dice DO have to be put in your backup plan, but they are the exception. Hope that helps! Playing that rule correctly made the game a LOT more fun for me. Before, I though skill dice were pretty terrible because they were so inconsistent.

Nice game. It also seems that the game likes to keep you honest. The intended rules are that buff HP disapears at the end of your next combat (unless otherwise stated), so you shouldn't have it at 44:05 when trying to get your gearlocks under the limit. But since you removed it, the result is the same But that isn't (very clear) in the manual, although it is added in the FAQ. It seems to come from the fact that all sources from the original TMB mention when to remove it, and so it is an oversight in the rules of undertow.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You’re right, I got confused because it doesn’t go away at the end of a peaceful encounter, but does at the end of a battle. Glad the end result was the same in this case though :)

@@OneStopCoopShop Some argue that undertow > basegame tho.
@davidpepin30173 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for the video! I bought too many bones (base game) and played it enough that I'm at a point where I would like more enemies, Encounter cards, gearlock, etc. Would you say that Undertow is a good way to expend the base game?
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
Well, here’s the thing. Undertow is the best value for sure. 2 new gearlocs, a bunch of new tyrants and baddies and encounters, fun new mechanics. Just be aware that it is generally not recommended to combine baddies from Undertow with base game baddies. Same with encounters. So they are kind of their own thing.
@davidpepin30173 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop that is good to know. I guess the battlemat not being the same is kind of a clue that some things are not exactly compatible. I guess I should wait until 40 days in daelore is back in print (in the next few months I think) and then get a couple of gearlocks too. Thanks again, btw I love your videos, always well made, interesting with the perfect pace of play.
@OneStopCoopShop3 жыл бұрын
@@davidpepin3017 thanks! And yeah, if you just want to expand the base stuff you have, Daelore adds new baddies and a bit else. Age of Tyranny adds campaign play and also more day 1-3 encounters (so they aren't the same each time). Splice and Dice is a more involved expansion that is pretty awesome, but also more complex, so I don't recommend it until you have basically everything else ;)

Isn't it supposed to cost two dex to move on a wreckage space (on the raft) during the last fight with Bernacle? It would be more costly and way harder of a fight.
@williammcneil20452 жыл бұрын
is it better to have more days or less, like the days could have some good things as well as bad things ? yes ?
@OneStopCoopShop2 жыл бұрын
So... it's a bit complicated. Each day you WIN, the number and strength of enemies increases, but you also level up and get stronger. Each day you LOSE... the enemies get stronger and you stay the same (though I usually play with a houserule where you still get one training point when you lose so it doesn't spiral out of control). So theoretically more or fewer days doesn't change the overall balance much. That being said, I tend to prefer tyrants with more days, because it pushes your leveling in more interesting directions. It's a well known semi-flaw of the game that leveling up just attack and defense is often a winning strategy. But the more days you play, the tougher it becomes to level up those stats, so you have to delve into the cool abilities of your characters.

Totally agree for Stanza (though I still like her). I don’t think Duster is too tough to learn, though the whole “wolf comes in once you’re damaged” thing takes some getting used to. I imagine it’s kind of like frosthaven, where they have to balance the desires of new players for an easy point of entry with experienced players wanting more advanced stuff.
@blesswitskills4 жыл бұрын
My thought process and experience... if someone heard that TMB was great and wants to dip their toes in the water but doesn’t want to invest to much immediately, they would purchase Undertow (that’s what I did). I usually don’t play solo and thought this would be cool for my wife and I to play or one of my friends... but the learning curve on Stanza I feel is a lot for a new player. I feel it would of been best to have Duster and someone easy to use and hard to master. Just my thoughts on how I would of done it. I’ve been able to play the original game since and currently Patches is my favorite.
