Hi Ian - the idea is that there can be a reality of experience of the love of God which is beyond just a religious ritual. He's not making us just follow the rules- he's wanting us to live in him as he's a relational God, who wants to interact with him.

I do however believe there is something..."could be better" when they want to engage in coversations (let alone with other non christians, at least normal conversations among themselves). Do take this as a grain of salt but for me it's this "crisis if our words not biblical enough or has hymnes, surely our chirstian identity will die" that has been haunting most believers to behave in this kind of way. It's more on the immersion of seeing Jesus in their earthly daily lives that could've been their meditations instead of just copy paste all religious theme to make out of place sayings.

i kind of like this.. There were times i was scared of God.. But now I know that He is so good.. Hate to be a hypocrite.. Was depressed a bit and told him- "I can trust ATM card more than you, bcoz it works always". . Next day July 3rd, i went to withdraw some cash, i got a message that my card expired and new card is already sent to company address. Since it was weekend, i was in a fix. But I happened to have some cash returned by my friend.. It reminded me - Jesus knows even what I think.

The short quickie answer I can give you is, when you're in a loving relationship with someone (parents, sibling, spouse, etc), you want to act in a way that you know will make them happy, simply because you love them! So it is in a relationship with Jesus Christ!

@IanEColeman The advices that Jesus gives about obedience and discipline or how you are to be a good person is common among us men, because I know in Genesis, God made us in His image and with His morals in us, that we know what is right and what is wrong today. But what is it about Jesus is that there is so much more a different experience. Not just about being a good person but about the Blessings God offers, about the Love God gives, about His promises and the Life in Him.

@ianEColeman first of all, I would like to thank you for taking an intellectual approach to this. The reason we obey God is because sin was started by not trusting God. God said to Adam, "Do not eat of this tree" and Adam did it. Jesus atoned for that sin. However, that only made it so that sin's control over man was gone, meaning that we would not die for our sins if we accepted Jesus in our hearts. After that, we obey God's rules because that's what He asks. And you feel good for doing it.

Christianity is not a religion that you put on top of your "normal" life and do certain practices at certain times. It is either your whole life or not. You can be right, you dont need Jesus to be moral. But morality is not the whole point of Christianity and is not what saves you from hell...

@IanEColeman Your main question "do you need Jesus for that?" is the trickiest one to answer. If you believe as I do, then you believe that all things come from God through Jesus, and thus by default, we are unable to be "moral" without help. Our flesh (ie, immorality) wars against our spirit (ie, morality) inherently. Of course, if you DON'T believe as I do, then none of that scans for you, so... what can be settled? =)

The "threat" of Hell is not a threat, merely the reality of the situation! (I am speaking of "reality" as one who believes, obviously.) I find that the Book of James is a fantastic read, btw, much of my idea come from there specifically.

@IanEColeman It's not out of fear of punishment, instead it's out of thankfulness and gratitude. Jesus was perfect, I am not. God showed grace to us all by forgiving us and we need to accept that grace and then show grace to others. Not just when it's convenient but all the time. This is easy to say but much harder to live. True Christianity has nothing to do with what you or I do and everything to do with Jesus Christ and His perfect sacrifice.

@IanEColeman Most people commit suicide or feel bad all the time or alone and depressed or angry at the world. Who goes their whole life not feeling loved and is okay? No one. But Jesus Christ claims to be love and that is the one thing everyone desires and with out love we'll die. Jesus said he is the only way. @bsircf We could debate about this for centuries to come, but let's keep it simple. I do not agree that we need God to define morals. I think anyone can say some things for certain, i.e. killing/stealing from/harming is immoral. To me, there's not many other rules needed. I like to treat others as they would be treated because i don't want to harm their feelings. And I don't aspire to steal from or hurt anyone in my future.
