Excellent review. I have a 30mm rise on my stock bar. I want to upgrade to the OneUp bar, which comes in 20mm and 35mm rise. Can you explain what’s the difference and which is better?
@TXMTBN
@TXMTBN 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by! Generally a flat bar puts your rinding position more forward like on a cross country bike that has you leaned forward for climbing (more forward weight over front tire) and aerodynamics. Other end of the spectrum is a downhill bike where your more upright and have a higher rise bar. For a trail bike you’re probably going to be after finding a middle ground for climbing and descending. If you felt good on your 30mm, I’d go 35mm. If you feel like you would like to be a little more leaned forward than you are on your 30mm, you could go with 20mm.

@@TXMTBN Thank you for explaining. I find I’m too leaned forward on my 30mm. My shoulders hurt after awhile. I think 35mm would be suitable.

Market demands have forced PNW to not only start making 35mm bars, they've now introduced a carbon bar (35mm)

We looked the torque specs up at work. It’s 6nm on the stem and 5nm on the controls. My coworker looked it up and gave me his torque rings and some carbon past. Double check though.

I also suffer from hand/wrist fatigue on longer rides (fingers get tingly). I bought the OneUp carbon bar (35mm rise) this spring hoping it would mitigate this. There was definitely an improvement but unfortunately some tingling still occurs - especially in my right hand. After listening to comments by pro riders like Kyle Warner (who had design input into the PNW alloy bars) I think ideally I need a bar with a lot more back-sweep than the standard 8° or 9° due to my natural shoulder, arm, wrist physique. There are very few options on the market with more back-sweep. Secondly while that might solve my hand/wrist fatigue problem it would introduce less than ideal riding position during jumps and such. The OneUp bar is very nice and of course shaved some weight compared to my alloy bar. While it didn’t solve all my problems I’m glad I bought it. Also kudos to OneUp for not increasing their prices due to the pandemic manufacturing problems. Supply was short. Most sites/bike shops were out of OneUp bars thru early 2021. When they became available again I was pleased to see prices had not increased. ($139)

I know I'm "late to the party" on this video, but I got some good points from it. I have been riding a Giant Trance Alum for about 9 mos now, and like you on that Stumpy, (if you still have it), I'm enjoying the stability, ruggedness and being able to ride over things, (if needed), & not around them. But, I'm been looking into more of a trail bike, (120-130mm travel) range, dropping a few pounds in the process. I ride a lot of hills in SoCal, and a few pounds at the end, (or beginning, ha) of the day makes a big difference. I've read some good info re the One Up bars, (World Wide Cyclery included them in part of a video). Regarding your hand / wrist discomfort, I went with a rather big back-sweep of 23, (Salsa Bend23 Deluxe), and I really noticed a big improvement in almost all of my riding. I rode / raced motocross / desert when I was young, and this set-up, for me, works well, as do the 700mm wide bars, (I actually feel I have more power with a narrower bar, maybe a tad less leverage, but for my body geo this set up works best. May try a SQLabs large back-sweep bar which should have more give them the fairly stiff ones I have. Cheers

I just got my Shimano XT m8100 pedals, and Specialized Comp mtb shoes today... sweet! Picking up the Stumpy Comp Carbon 29 soon!! From all my years working in bike shops I always thought Park had some of the funniest tool abbreviations....(SAC 2) some of my faves include the WAG-1 (wheel alignment gauge) , and FAG-1 (frame alignment gauge). haha

What I'm wondering about right now is the OneUp carbon bars installation with the OneUp stem (I ordered both). For carbon bar install they say '5nm' - but for the stem it's: Top bolts tight (zero gap) and lower bolts 6nm. Now what? 5nm or 6nm? I'll go with 5nm...but it's a little bit confusing. BTW: Great video. In my opinion carbon paste is mandatory on (almost all) carbon parts and also doesn't hurt on aluminum parts. I use it generally on all parts where I want to have maximum grip between two components. Greetings from Germany :-)

Nice! How do you like that shock upgrade? Did you go to a DUB bottom bracket? The sram spline bb that is factory is really heavy and is a really cheap way to get some weight savings.
@KabirBindra
@KabirBindra 3 жыл бұрын
Yup dub is the only way to go. I think there’s a lot of value to unlock by ditching the xfusion rear shock, the rockshoxs 35 sliver in the front is plenty capable just not as tunable.

The OneUp site currently lists the lever clamp torque at 5Nm, but it says 6Nm for the stem clamp. My stem also says 6Nm. Wondering where you see the max torque for these bars listed as 5Nm?
