You explained the popping your heels off very well. It is like skateboarding an snowboarding when you're riding through dips in the terrain - you almost want to make your body "float" through them in order to put less pressure on the board. Science!

You will get less tired, if you continuously slalom - don't go in a straight line and if you are warmed up, you should feel like a feather on the board. and be able to hop without getting off. Really relaxed is the way to go.

This kinda goes along with practicing bails. Practice the infamous "nosedive". No I don't mean push your board as fast as it goes til you get ejected off the front. Instead, find a steep hill(grass would be ideal) and try to climb it. Go with moderate speed but keep in mind that the first few times you will likely fall off. But try to keep the board going even when it kind of "gives out" on you. You'll feel the nose start to dip. Try to get get pressure back on the back foot and keep it up. This will help you in the long run and is a big help in keeping you from getting hurt.

I just finished a 10 mile single track ride, beautiful day, awesome ride! There is nothing like getting out in the woods and ripping. It's just the most amazing feeling. Off road Onewheel riding is hands down my favorite kind of ride. I think it makes you a better more intuitive rider, having to think on your feet. Every time you round a turn, looking at what's ahead and thinking how am I going to get down this. The more you do it your brain is making tons of light speed calculations, left of big root, over left rock right is too big, hit the middle root to jump over the rock. You get the picture. I feel so thankful during these stressful times to be able to got out and tear up the trails. Thanks Onewheel!

When riding blazing a new route of-road for the first time go slow and scout it out carefully, and as silly as it sounds treat all grassy areas as suspect until you've ridden over them. You would think the grass would be on the safer-side of terrain however it often holds hidden dangers, most notably soft squishy wet patches and holes/dips. My only serious Onewheel injury (knock on wood) came from an unseen wet and squishy patch of grass. The board sunk right in and stopped dead. I did my usual run-off however because it was squishy wet grass I immediately slipped and slid. I caught myself but also dislocated my shoulder! The worst part was the fear of going to the ER during a COVID pandemic, but I managed to get it popped back in at home. My wife was not super happy. ;)

When riding offroad I've found the following helpful (especially while learning): -Think of picking your line as a problem solving game, the path of least resistance may not be the most fun but its probably your safest bet. -Deep carves & mud (or real loose ground) don't mix, Float light when you find yourself on sketchy surfaces -Bring a plastic bag & pick up a few peices of trash along the way, that way when you get the inevitable dirty look from a biker or trail walker who may be questioning the legality of your 'motorized vehicle' on said trail at least you know in you heart you've left that place better than you found it. ... currently riding stock footpads offroad but I fingers crossed that will change thanks to this post🤞🏼 Thanks for being awesome team Future Motion!

I've found that momentum is usually a good friend on the trail. The board will have a hard time powering through rough terrain, sticks, roots, and stuff like that without the help of some momentum. Not necessarily going fast but just coming into things rolling. Don't take it any faster than you're comfortable with. Start with terrain you can handle and work up from there.

Just got my first OneWheel yesterday, the Pint! I’m 48 years old but, no exaggeration, I’ve been like a kid on Christmas Day since it got here. I’ve already got 10 miles on it. I’ve taken a few short trips of about 3 miles each. I’m also practicing tight circles and figure 8s just like this video says to do. I have also found it helpful to practice going up and down driveway bumps to get the feel for what it’s like to take a very big bump. Since I plan to begin using my Pint to get to and from work (about 4.5 miles) when the quarantine is over, I’ve also been practicing riding with my full backpack (MacBook, iPad, camera gear, etc.). It’s a very different feel with that weight on my back, especially getting going. Once I’m up and cruising, it’s not much different. Thanks for the tips and for making such an awesome product!

Just did some onewheel trail riding today, and I think that an important tip is to first get comfortable with the board on pavement, then hit the trails, sand & grass which are all completely different beasts in their own right. Second, momentum is key, the slower you go, the harder it is to maintain balance; one wheels in motion, stay in motion. Ps, I’ve been looking into a grippy footpad, good to know that you guys at future motion recommend the ‘SURESTANCE’. Float on my friends... peace ✌🏽

Having just come off the board pretty badly this week trail riding, I'd say it's really important to keep your eye on the terrain you're about to cross. It's easy to get distracted by pretty surroundings on a trail, but if you're going fast and not ready for a sharp dip in the trail or a big stone, you're coming off the board

You touched on this, but learning how to fall is critical. I ride a Pint to work (in dress clothes) often in the dark, up a hill that is large gravel for half the distance and farm pasture for the rest. There are rock outcroppings, holes, etc. I haven't put a hole in my dress pants or even grass stained them (yet!) because I have a ton of falling experience (I'm 55, and love skimboarding). I think that practicing how to fall (in your house on padding/on grass) is a great tip. Preventing a fall is first, of course, which is what this video is really about, but you will fall. Being prepared and doing it naturally is critical to avoiding injury.

Just got an XR a few weeks ago. I live a block away from a park with miles of wooded trails between two different rivers and I've been riding them hard. It's been a super good two weeks. My dog is actually loving it too! Best purchase I've made in as long as I can remember.. I've been riding in Mission for the most part, but whenever I'm on the trails I switch over to Delirium, and that feels more tight and I don't feel like I'm going to turn into the trees after coming out of a weird dip, or something similar.
@noelstoddard62384 жыл бұрын
Great selection of tips here. One I'd like to comment on is riding mode (XR/plus). You made a comment that you have to have loose ankles and this is totally correct. If you are riding a setting like mission or less, you are going to be fighting the board and your shins will be on FIRE! It's been my experience and most that I ride with to put the board in Delirium for trails, and Elevated is good too if there are some nice inclines. This really helps navigate those roots/rocks and bumps. Oh yeah, elbow pads are a must on trails too. I'm typically going too fast to run out and I plan on rolling when I fall. Having a pad on that front elbow gives me a bit of confidence since I know that's that arm that's making contact first. Cheers

Going up bigger bumps on your heel side. A root or curb is a good example. I’m goofy so I’ll hit those turning left a little. If I hit them on my toe side it flips out most of the time. You have more weight over your heels so you don’t loose control as easily.

I'm still fairly new to riding my onewheel pint. At the moment I'm at 300 km and I've been riding for 5 Month (Lockdown Included :/ ) While offroading my biggest problem is slipping slightly off my board, so I'll ordered some new griptape, I'll see how it works out.

Nice video! Trail riding is the biggest challenge for me so far, but it's all about practice practice practice and wear a helmet and be prepared to take a spill! lol love the video FM!

Dude..... so helpful. I am only a few weeks in to this OW life and I am loving it. Went on my first trail yesterday and was quite nervous. These pointers will help a lot when I go try again today.

A big thing I picked up was kind of touched on but not completely. Whenever rolling over obstacles, I accelerate quickly when the obstacle is directly in front of me but then as I go over it I lean back and put my weight on my back foot. I make sure I am light on my feet, especially taking weight off my front foot so I don’t nose dive. If you break before rolling over an obstacle then try accelerating over it, it’s not gonna go over too well. I hope this helps and keep the shred alive my dudes🤘🏼
