I saw on the French cooking academy KZbin channel that a good way to check if a gravy is done is after you dip the back of a spoon in the gravy then slide you finger across it, if you see the line you made clearly it's done. Also have you tried a netti pot for that nose? I do landscaping and and get all kinds of dust and crap in there and it always clears it out. Keep up the good work!

Hi ya Jeremy and Delphanie! What u two r doing takes me back n time on how people survived n those days, which brings to mind, many back then also grew a garden, why could y’all not have included that n the Big wild year as well? All I can say is, I can just imagine how hard it will be to go back to regular foods. You guys r great! Thank u

We just chose to do it without a garden. We will probably plant a big garden this summer to supply us with different foods in 2020.

For leaking the acron flour, I like the idea of putting the flour in the a cloth bag and putting it the back of the toilet. Lots of leaking water and every flush refreshes the water.
@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
Yes. But some toilet tanks have weird buildup in them and so I prefer to use jars in the fridge.
@nealdalton46966 жыл бұрын
Some lichens can be used to thicken gravy and stews. They could still be gathered in the winter. \
@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but my understanding is that they are only to be resorted to as a survival food and can be dangerously toxic in general.
@HalfQ6 жыл бұрын
Looks great, you could add ground acorn flour as a thickner. This time next year all your root veg would be available, maybe 1 years isnt enough lol

hi jeremy, I was wondering what ratio of meat to vegatables do you expect to eat this year? also, I thought it might be fun for you to keep track of your expectations vs. your experiences from early on!

Everything looks delicious! I have a question, does any of the herbs or mushrooms give your meat a substitute of salt flavor? I know it's not too good for you but I like salt with my meat. Great video, very I'm formative.
@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
None of the ones that we have impart a salt flavour.
@tycreps64076 жыл бұрын
What kind of flavor does the hawthorn add? I've made a needle from one of its thorns but never tasted the little fruits.
@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
I think it just adds Vitamin C :) I find the fruits pretty bland and mealy on their own and I'm not sure that they add flavour.
@vans.84356 жыл бұрын
Enjoying the series. One question I have is, what do you do to replace salt in the diet?
@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
We just get sodium in the food we eat. We also have a small amount of sea salt that I made in the Caribbean.
@vans.84356 жыл бұрын
@@OneWildcrafter Thanks for reply. I'll have to look into what wild foods contain sodium. I've read that Native Americans used to trade for salt.

Your meals looks great 👍, I just had a thought 💭 about your juniper berries they look a bit like black peppercorns if there hard like peppercorns you could put them into a grinder like container that way Your juniper berries could go a long way... ❤️😋 I like the meals anyway tho
@thermal15806 жыл бұрын
I think juniper berries are extremely potent. If you ground up even one it might ruin the meal.

@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
Ask a hunter about bear meat. Visit a farmer's market for maple syrup. Ontario has a thriving maple syrup industry. If you can't access a farmer's market, just check a google map for your nearest maple syrup producer and then see if they ship or deliver. A lot of health food stores also carry local maple syrup and honey.

One of the biggest take-aways from the "wild-year" and even the wilderness challenge is the amount of actual time dedicated to foraging(availability) and meal prep. Frankly if there was disruption to any of the modern systems we depend I fear the population might become cannibals before zombies. Too soon?
@OneWildcrafter6 жыл бұрын
Which is exactly why global populations must strive towards population management - reduce the population to where everyone can enjoy a good standard of living, access to wild places, and a clean environment.
@joybickerstaff1946 жыл бұрын

question: why do canadians have so few children? it comes of as a very good place to live in. wide spaces, clean enviroment, not a poor country, etc.
@tifreakhachey6 жыл бұрын
Many people that do "well" prefer waiting till they are financially stable to afford having them. Usually end up having only one or two by the end of their thirties. You also have the ones that are poor on welfare, have many kids living off the ones mentioned above. ( Social assistance programs) But they don't make wilderness videos. So we don't hear about them. haha. hope that helps.

Yes. I would say taxes and education are the two main factors.
