Nice quick rundown Tom. I like the lavuu-esk style. Definitely lends itself to a summer rain cape and light weight shelter especially with the bug net. Nate

Thanks for the review Tom, interesting bit of kit but not sure if it's for me. Please keep the videos coming.

I've never got on with ponchos as I find they get condensation when walking. However, I use a poncho and woobee for sleeping/camping with quite a bit and I've used a poncho for having a dry rest when out and about in poor conditions. I bung a basher in my bag and I'm more than sorted.
@scotbotvideosАй бұрын
Good overview, Tom. It's very similar to the OneTigris Tentsformer which is more of a sleeved poncho. I had considered that as an emergency / lunch-stop shelter for day-hikes, but ended up deciding on a lightish weight tent instead (ironically given what you said in the video). Having said all that, here's where I think this could come into its own -- to be used as an emergency, additional waterproof garment if you were to be out all night in downpouring rain and you weren't sure that your poncho would hold up. I could defo see myself using it in that context, though prolly not as a makeshift basha.

I like it, however, in my opinion one is better off having two of them zipped together. I would replace the bright orange cordage with o.d. green 550 paracord. I would also carry something to use as a ground cloth to avoid sleeping in the dirt.

Would you say this or Snugpak SF Bivy would be better?

A bivvi bag is a different kind of thing. This work work well with a bivvi bag, not instead of.

@@PreparedPathfinder different they are, but if you had to take just one, as a make-shift shelter, which would you prefer? they are roughly the same size and weight… ponder ponder

Zeltbahn ;-) the triangular ones? 4 make a tent, the whole set has become expensive. even the reproductions cost you an arm and a leg. 😞

Basically it’s a no. It’s basically a shelter that’s not a good cape, unlike your military poncho which is a good waterproof with a hood and makes a good emergency shelter and is half the price.
@borragoАй бұрын
Their poncho is $39, this shelter is $45.
@craig2795Ай бұрын
My regular use poncho was £17.00, my 1989 Army Poncho was issued and still going strong. All that tells us is that their OneWind poncho is overpriced also. You are better off going to an Army Surplus Store and getting a good solid one although I have never had any issues with my £17:00 one and being a good DPM pattern is tend to use it a lot more as a blind when wild camping to screen me from those I do t want to know I’m there 👍 (not that I am condoning this behaviour 😏
@PreparedPathfinderАй бұрын
@@craig2795 there are loads of different more expensive and cheaper options out there, l’d hardly call $45 overpriced. The 58 pattern poncho is a piece of junk, and is far heavier and bulkier. This review is for info, just an interesting option. l’m not trying to sell anything.
@craig2795Ай бұрын
I may have come across wrong here, but I purchased and have this One Wind shelter, admittedly I overpaid for it by getting it through Amazon. As I already carry a poncho I found Its purpose as a cape was not as good and I have better options. As a shelter it did not really work for me either as I still prefer my DD Superlight Tarp which is always in my Bergen even when I carry a tent so for me at least I gained nothing from this shelter that I did not already have and thought worked better. I totally get this has shelter has its place. But it did not work for me. I still love my old poncho btw, yep it’s outdated but it’s been with me getting used and abused for too many years on too many trips not just my time in, it allowed me to travel when I could not afford anything better many years ago so I may have a slight biased towards it. Its a bit like why we all have old Landrover Defenders - are they reliable ‘hell no’ but we just love them anyway, at least my old Poncho is costing nothing to keep it being of use. 😂 I wish I could say the same about my Lanny 🤦🏻♂️

Excellent Pro review as to be expected on this channel as always. It’s a good and versatile piece of kit that looks Thomas, I like multiple use items. Be a bit too constricting for my height though at 6 feet. For less tall types brilliant, 5ft8 is the perfect height for a Paratrooper, handle those impacts better than lanky stretched out gangling types. My mate is six feet ten and a stiff wind injures him. Nice looking OG smock your sporting too, what manufacturer and shall you be reviewing?

As someone over 6', looks too small. A 2 person bothy bag would do a better job in an emergency for similar weight/size.
