$500 return is a solid deal! ADL-PVG return $525 is probably my best deal so far... I think I flew Singapore but booked through virgin in 2017. The view you get on the tarmac when transferring from domestic to international in Sydney is always nice, but yes... there can be hold ups and it sucks when your returning from an international flight with no sleep XD Probably one of my favourites mate! top job, really enjoyed it!

Hello OWF, I particularly enjoyed this review. A few days ago I returned to Sydney after flying four sectors with Cathay Pacific, between Sydney and Tokyo. I think I last flew Cathay in 2013 or 2014. In the time in between, I have flown Singapore Airlines, which is my gold standard, and ANA. I think Cathay has gone down considerably. Do you think Virgin compares favourably with Cathay on the Sydney to Hong Kong route? The food looked OK on your flight..., and I liked the 2-4-2 configuration you had in economy. Cathay has gone for the 3-4-3 configuration, which is just too cramped in my opinion. And they still use plastic cutlery. Hing Kong, even just for a 10 hour layover on the way back to Sydney was great, BTW. Afternoon Tea in the Clipper Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental and a tram ride down to North Point and back! Looking forward to more videos!
@JaydenWong5 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for watching and sharing your experience! Virgin does really well on this route, low fares, great food and crew, but their seats are designed for domestic not long haul international! You get virtually no legroom if you put a bottle of water in the seat pocket. Cathay seats are much more comfortable (except those on the refurbished 777 of course!!!) and service is more consistent. I love a tram ride in Hong Kong Island! I live in New Territories and tram rides are free if I'm connecting from a bus, well tram is already super cheap but even better when it's free😂

@@JaydenWong Yes fare price structures have changed and with economy of scale ie. mass production all want cheap fares but note quality has dropped. Old Economy 30-40 years ago is now generally equivalent to Premium Economy today. There are so many changes as to one expects. Significant individual airline and aircraft identity has been lost. White cabin walls with all. With what airline am I flying with? LED mood lighting all one sees. Wardair Canada had a colourful cabin and with Qantas B747B or B707-338C or Air New Zealand DC10 or original B747-219 all now gone. Swissair etc had their distinct signature. There was quality. I really miss it plus inflight cockpit visits. I enjoyed what I experienced in the past. Flying today is like mass transportation cheap fares. Like catching a suburban bus... sad. I avoid it! Etihad "The Residence" on the A380 is an attraction that I may do or should do. Missed out on Concorde in 2003. Ansett 727.

Thanks One World Flyer a great video as always with your trade marks. I was noted for the price you paid AU$506 HKG return via ADL SYD was a great deal 2019. I paid AU$503 in May 1987 First Class return same day return between ADL and CBR with AN Ansett Airlines of Australia return. Today the with CPI Inflation calculator with Reserve Bank of Australia the cost would be AU$1227 in 2019. Surprised that checking on Qantas return same day ADL CBR Business Class same hitting AU$1800+. Virgin Australia Business same at AU$1400+. I must ad that First Class is not Business Class and you really know the difference! Very surprised in price difference as First Class was cheaper than Business Class! Yes I understand no lounges back then! Keep up with the good work as I am old school and have never seen a touch screen seat back in my life! What you don't know you don't miss! Happy with a 10 or so Audio channels and one film shown on a screen in front of your cabin during long haul flights even with QF and LH 12 + hour plus sectors on the B747-400 in 1998! Round the world flights! Never forget seeing the ice middle of the day mid summer sun across Greenland aboard LH Boeing 747-230B between FRA and YVR refurbished noted fresh painting across cabin wall and cabin roof infrastructure! We were happy with service. I just missed out on the B707 and DC8 and especially Concorde... should had done it 2003 and could had! Thanks for reading my essay but I yes I am old school and there are many global individuals doing their Airline Trip Reports on KZbin running it as a business for income and sponsorship. Have been a very say to it does not attract me but makes it look cheap. Airliners.net that I have been looking at since 2002 dial up internet days has lost my appeal and now stale in 2019. Domestically I have flown Jetstar, QantasLink (Cobram Air Services) and Virgin. Jetstar annoy the crap out of me with the weighing of bags at the gate, plus their constant announcements to go to the gate early to have your bag weighed and tagged. My QantasLink and Virgin flights have both had good service, but I felt that food was better on Qantas. Personally it would be price and schedule that determines it for me. If both had similar schedule and there was little price difference, I'd pick Qantas. I'd pay a reasonable premium not to fly Jetstar as they really just annoy me. Internationally to south-east Asia, I prefer to fly Malaysia or Singapore Airlines in economy. Emirates lost their gloss when they stopped flying the A380 to Bangkok and Qantas are only worth considering if they are similar price to the Asian airlines. I say that because whilst the direct flights are good on Qantas, their service on board sucks.
@JaydenWong5 жыл бұрын
Qantas for domestic. Virgin for International. Qantas feed you more on domestic, Virgin feed more on international 😂 But I agree with Ryan, I am a student and limited budget so price always determines it for me.

I've flown this route before and found the crew were always very friendly but the one HK Airlines crew always speaks Cantonese in a very wierd way (like they were reading a card of google translated scripts) and usually mumble through the Mandarin.
@Guerry-35 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, you will find this somewhat amusing. I am from American, and you make a point that had me scurrying through Google in research which started out with “What is the difference between Cantonese and Mandarin?” Without trying to be rude or inconsiderate, the fact is that for the majority of Americans (except for those with personal or business ties with China), Chinese is spoken in China, without distinguishing between Cantonese and Mandarin. Nevertheless, I am now forever much more enlightened, thanks to you for stimulating my curiosity. But funny enough, my research progressed in learning the differences between: Cantonese and Mandarin, a language vs. a dialect, a dialect vs. a topolect, a dialect vs. an accent, and an accent vs. a variety. As much as I would love to apply my newly acquired knowledge, in conversational speech in the United States, it is best to stick with the all-encompassing terms of “language” and “accent”, or no one will know what I am saying.

haha the HK Airlines crew didn't even bother speaking Mandarin on this flight, the one on my return flight did though. Guerry: yes, it is very hard to explain the Cantonese dialect/language. It is technically a dialect, but it almost sounds like a totally different language to Mandarin
@Guerry-35 жыл бұрын
@@JaydenWong: Thank-you for your kind reply, Jayden. The one thing I was hoping to ensure that those from China, whether they speak Cantonese or Mandarin know that as far as the overwhelming majority of US citizens are concerned, someone from China only speaks Chinese. For someone to try and correct them by stating Mandarin or Cantonese, it will most likely lead to confusion. By no means does an American wish to be insulting with his unfamiliarity with China. It is merely that those in the US are just so much more tied with Europe through our education and culture, that many other cultures unfortunately get slighted. Among the many benefits I receive from viewing channels such as yours is quenching my desire to learn, which is something I truly enjoy. The exception is whenever someone comments in "Chinese", it does not help me much.

The most common opinion on airplane food is that it’s quite bland or even terrible. But the cooking of the food have improved a lot in recent years.
@JaydenWong5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I do realise airplane food to be more edible nowadays. But there is still some food items that I avoid in an aeroplane, such as spaghetti and chicken breast, they don’t taste good up in the skies in my opinion. Thank you for watching :)
@CEB18965 жыл бұрын
One World Flyer Yes, chicken breasts are usually dry in normal restaurants let alone on aeroplanes. Spaghetti? Overcooked and bland.

Love the look of Virgin and the attitude of the flight crews but have never traveled with them...ticket prices for a cash customer are just too high for me usually. Surprised to see a couple of crumbs on the seat table. Love leather seats but your point about them being too slippery to get a night's sleep is a valuable one. Did you know a recent survey on cleanliness and hygiene of aircraft seats showed that window seats were MUCH dirtier than aisle seats...it appeared that the further the seats are from the aisle, the less well cleaned they are. Glad to hear they are taking criticism of the meal tray on-board and changing it ... Virgin seems very pro-active in these matters. Enjoy your weekend at home and keep safe. Who was "we" btw?
@JaydenWong5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching as always Norman! I didn't know about the survey but I guess it makes sense, the cleaners always clean the seats as they quickly walk through the aisle so window seats are further away for them to reach😮 I refer 'we' to us, myself and everyone watching :D If you were wondering who my neighbour was, he is my classmate

Thank-you Jayden for sharing this flight report with us. This is Guerry again, and as always I learn and further log my catalog my evaluations of each carrier you select for your trips. But before I specifically comment on your flight, I extend my appreciation to some of the well written and informative comments some of your viewers make. They do a great job of supplementing both my entertainment and education about facets of a flight you do not specifically address. I appreciate your courtesy and positive evaluations of your flights. However, from what you presented, I am not at all impressed with this flight, which by no means reflects the performance of the cabin crew. Based on all of your traveling experiences, I am coming to most appreciate the Asian carriers you fly over those from Australia, America, and Europe. But specifically on this flight, the aircraft was filthy and the food looked as if it had been under heating lamps for days, even though you thought most of it tasted good. About the only good things I saw about your flight was the courteous and friendly flight crew and how much you spent on it. Personally, the aircraft’s cleanliness, the food preparation, and the courtesy and attentiveness of the cabin crew are my highest priorities, even over the cost for the flight. I put a lot of emphasis on being comfortable and relaxed during the flight, which is best provided on the Asian carriers you have reviewed. Although my comment is leaning towards the negative, I do appreciate your reviews, whether or not I have time to comment or not. Thank-you again for this post, and I am looking forward to viewing your next.
@JaydenWong5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment Guerry! I understand your points that this flight wasn’t as good as the ones I experienced within Asia and my comments seem to be very positive. That is because I considered the price I paid when I was editing my video. If I paid the normal price for the route ($800-1200) I would have made very different comments. I take your comments to be a very constructive and useful feedback and I appreciate your time in writing this 😊

@@JaydenWong: Thank-you for your very kind comments. I guess that the big difference between us is that I had the experience of flying commercially in the 60's and 70's, when it was elegant in every facet of one's experience. One could not step foot into an airport without feeling as if he was in Buckingham Palace. Nevertheless, I do so appreciate your reviews and just as you teach me so much, I only wish to show my appreciation with a worthwhile comment and candor from my perspective. Thank-you so much again!
