spirituality is like the imagination of a being, when we imagine something,we most likely imagine a circumstance which we want in our life, but spirituality makes us capable of going through any situation good or bad and it makes us love these challenges and difficulties.

Happy New Year to you! It's always really nice to hear a dialogue about the Tao te Ching and explore the concepts further. I seem to come back to it as I'm growing and learning about myself. The trouble that I experience is that, even though I hear of the Tao and (try to) embody it as #41 states, I find that the pushback within my occupation doesn't resonate at the same level. People love me for who I am and often times I hear from my customers that they appreciate me, but it doesn't seem like workplaces see the value in the virtues. Am I overreaching or am I just recognizing a reflection of the ideals of western society?

Morning. Thank you for these beautiful teachings. I have only one question and would so appreciate a solution or opinion, Im struggling with a huge challenge/riddle. I am peace, joy, love and light except for one aspect of my life. I purchased a house and property with my brother with less insight than I should have had. He is self proclaimed lazy. I try to live a life of honour and integrity. We share a kitchen and shower. I am on disability but nothing gets done if I dont do it. I have approached him quietly, tried to influence him passively, had a shouting match or two. Im helpless. My resentment does not cease. Each day is a struggle against my anger and not turn into his slave. I purposely, at too much expense, built my own cottage. I do not believe in changing people but wish them to live their lives but I cannot believe that I must quietly be his servant. Any opinions will be valued.

I am fairly new to Daoism, but I notice that it has similarities with the Neoplatonic idea of The One. Preceding all, has No form, and everything flows from it and Goes back to it. Contemplation and letting go.

You say angry people can't be trusted because anger is bad for the heart, they attract angry people, and anger is part of western ideas. If one is indeed a peaceful person, then their heart is good and won't be infected. And if some eastern ideas are superior, then being in proximity to western ideas won't contaminate them. So could you clarify what makes angry people distrustful?

But here's the paradox. Angry people are angry because of a reason. Telling them anger is the problem just tries to apply makeup on the symptoms without treating the underlying disease. without getting to the root of the problem as to why the people are angry to begin with. When you bother to find that out that's when truth starts coming to the surface. Otherwise it's simply an excercise in frustration like trying to iron out the ripples on the surface of water😂 or trying to make a candle flame stand still😂 once you get to the root of the problem that it's the wind causing both you've instantaneously hit upon the solution as well.🤷‍♂️ unless that's done there will always be angry people wrecking havoc
@archockencanto1645
@archockencanto1645 Жыл бұрын
Anger is the problem though. What you're proposing is more like making situations perfect in the outside world. Which will never happen. It's better to become a person who does not get angered by any situation whatsoever. Therefore, anger is the problem. You can't solve all the millions of reasons.
@avijit849

@@archockencanto1645 But here's the thing. Let's suppose your neighbour plays loud music or constantly throws garbage in your yard and you have no recourse. what would you do? keep clearing out a garbage a zillion times while not getting angry at all? That sounds a lot like the Christian ideal of turn the other cheek and not like Taoism but if everyone tries to reason things out at an individual level no one's saying one person should go ahead and solve everything for everyone. That's what looks herculean. But everyone can at least iron out the differences in their individual lives to come at the truth.
@archockencanto1645

@@avijit849 Not being angry doesn't mean you're passive. You're fully capable of killing someone without anger or fighting or arguing. In your scenario, I wouldn't just sit there and keep cleaning it forever. Yes, I wouldn't be angry but I would be aware that this is something that needs to be opposed. Because, I intellectually know that it is a against dharma (or right action in this context). But, in the case that I don't think it is wrong, I'd also be fully capable of ignoring it. Either way, I do not suffer as I do not get angry, I am peaceful. I would have no ragas and dveshas so the act of arguing or fighting wouldn't have any resistance because I would have no expectations. Not exactly a Taoist approach but that's how I'd approach it (when I reach such a state).
@avijit849
@avijit849 Жыл бұрын
@@archockencanto1645 Well here's the thing 😂 according to you anger is the problem but you've yourself admitted that not being angry doesn't mean people will stop killing each other as one is perfectly capable of doing that without anger as you've yourself admitted 😅 So the problem still remains unsolved. people are still fighting and killing each other, the only thing that's changed is now they're doing it without anger with a smile on their faces😂😂 So sure , you're partially right. Anger causes personal suffering you're right on point there. but anger is simply a symptom to the problem. You need to talk to your neighbour to find out what's the problem. If he has any grudges against you and why and only after that you decide to take action against him.
