I saw Tomar pushing a Katamari the other day. It was a little over 3 meters in circumference. I ran up to say hey to him but as I got closer, i noticed that his eyes were blank. Almost like a deep black with spots. Like stars. I asked him for an autograph but as soon as i did, he revved up his katamari and quickly sped into a nearby park... all i heard were mothers screaming for their children and children crying for their mothers for help. I took flight, and hid in a nearby alleyway. Soon the voices stopped altogether. All i heard was the rolling of the katamari.

I know what Chris means with how games are accepted nowadays than ever before. The bleeding nose bit is meant to represent a rise in blood pressure, like in excitement. If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, the first time this joke popped up was in Dragon Ball (not Z), where master Roshi gets to see Bulma's boobs or underwear or w/e when whatshisface the pig (who's a shapeshifter) changed into her, I don't remember the story there. I think it was the first time the bleeding nose gag was used because the joke was really spelled out there, Roshi says something along the lines of "oh, my blood pressure" while wiping the blood off, while in other shows the bloody nose gag is taken for granted and isn't explained, like they already expect you to know about it. I'm not a weeaboo I swear.

the nose bleed, before manga, was a folk-belief thing, that sexual excitement in men leads to a change in blood pressure, and could cause nose bleeding. also, Dragonball wasn't the first instance of nose bleeding in manga, Yasuji Tanioka is believed to be the first mangaka to introduce the nose bleed trope in his early 70s manga Yasuji no Mettameta Gaki Dou Kouza, other manga artists liked the expression and it became a cliché.

The meaning of nose bleed in manga and anime : it's a way for them to rapresent actual ejaculation. Japanese are actually prudish in some regards and the genitals are taboo ,to the point they are censored in pr0n. There isn't a way to make jokes about erections without being tasteless or censored, so the nose bleed become a metaphor for that. Funnily enough western culture is no stranger to similar substitutions since the " banana peel " so common in old time cartoons and mute comedies is actually a way to represent feces . At the times horses were still the prevalent way of transportation and horse(and dog's) feces were ubiquitous in the streets. It wasn't uncommon to see a man or a woman in an elaborate dress slipping on them to the hilarity of the common people. Filmmaking was considered a form of art though and it seemed vulgar to film horseshit, so the much more acceptable banana peel was used.
