Yeah, ludo-narrative dissonance was coined to describe how Nate kills hundreds of people per game but they try and paint him like a goofy puckish rogue instead of a dead-eyed serial killer. It's not unenjoyable, just a bit jarring if anyone stops and thinks about it for a fraction of a second. The whole near-miss vs shot thing is just a writer's contrivance, it's not directly at odds with the story they're trying to tell.

Actually, there is a pretty simple explanation for your LOTR question: The ring was never intended for the power of invisibility. Sauron, creator of the ring, was the only one to use it correctly. Data cassette tapes used to be used as external storage back in the day. A game would be on cassette tape and you would have to play it on your computer which stores it in the computer's memory as it plays. When it's done, you could play your game. Back then computer's didn't even have a hard disk drive
