Yeah, ludo-narrative dissonance was coined to describe how Nate kills hundreds of people per game but they try and paint him like a goofy puckish rogue instead of a dead-eyed serial killer. It's not unenjoyable, just a bit jarring if anyone stops and thinks about it for a fraction of a second. The whole near-miss vs shot thing is just a writer's contrivance, it's not directly at odds with the story they're trying to tell.

Data cassette tapes used to be used as external storage back in the day. A game would be on cassette tape and you would have to play it on your computer which stores it in the computer's memory as it plays. When it's done, you could play your game. Back then computer's didn't even have a hard disk drive

They did put games on cassette tapes. The tape had the game's data on it since cassette tapes store data much like anything else. The computer would load the game into RAM and let you play it. I think the whole idea was to save both money and hard drive space.
