I agree most worms are not too fussed about being handled after a few generations of being domesticated. Good worms 🎉👍🏼🪱

Yeah - I guess when it's something you've experienced all your life it's really no big deal :)

I agree that the worms do not mind being mixed around, at least on an occasional basis. I think there are benefits, like checking the overall health, aerating the bin and spreading moisture and nutrients throughout the bin. When you go to harvest, will you be doing another horizontal migration? Bins look great! Happy New Year AV, Stay Well!!!

I've wondered about how I should go about separating the worms from the castings. Migration always seem to work well & is really easy - so chances are that I'll migrate them... but we'll just have to wait n' see :)

I was wondering if in all your years of worm farming if you have seen anything like this. This was a few days after feeding my Bin 7 of mixed red worms. When I turned on the lights in my work bedroom and gave a quick check of my bins then I noticed the plastic covering had been moved away from the edges on all four sides of the bin about two inches and saw a massive amount of worms hanging out, at first I thought that I had feed them something they did not like. I had not given them anything new and they were not trying to escape and upon closer examination I saw what I can only describe as a massive orgy. Hundreds of pairs of worms intertwined. This was not a worm ball. I decided to turn the lights back off and let them continue. A few hours later they were all back to normal. I guess I will know soon if this was mating if I see hundreds of cocoons. I had already seem a massive population growth in bins 1-6 but never saw anything like this.

I've seen similar mobbing of the worms on a couple occasions. Whether they were mating, or perhaps doing something else, I do not know. When I see stuff like that happening I always feel like I've got to do something to help stuff get back to normal again. I doubt that I could've kept my cool the way you did & simply allow it to continue uninterrupted :)
