Egypt was the 34th country I visited on my round the world tour. When I planned my route to Egypt I wasn't really sure if I would be able to cross over the Sinai peninsula to get to mainland Africa. Some people said it was doable and some said impossible, but I took the risk anyway and succeeded. I was escorted by the police for the majority of the way until I passed the Suez Canal. And in between, I got to chill at the coast and spend some time with my mum.

Great that you finally got through the border crossing. I guess it's an area that has it's moment of volatility. I see you have a Camel Pack for water. Not a place you'd want to get stuck or break down I'd imagine. What was wrong with your Carnet that they had to send extra paperwork to the boarder crossing? Beautiful blue sea. It's an irony that the land is so dry and really it's the desert I guess you could say and yet it also boarders the sea with all that water, however you can't drink any of it. That's a bit confusing with the one way street's-at least he was nice about it and let you off. Lot's of great fruit in the market place-keep you healthy. Looked like a nice place where you were staying-very interesting units made of stone with tile patio. Look comfortable enough and I guess the stone work would help keep it cool. Obviously they don't need to wear helmets over there. Love the room in Selam El Shikh-major upgrade from the tent. Enjoy! Loved the outfits-very dashing. I guess they have a certain practicality attached to them. Great underwater footage-I guess that was just the camera on it's own as I got a unit for go pro to fit into for underwater filming however it seemed to degrade the image quality. I'm sure your Mum worries about you being away in foreign lands adventuring. I think very good you had Police escort-if it cost's nothing I would be over the moon as at least you have some protection at least. It was nice to see that they stopped to help the cyclist. Well done on getting through the Suez and into Cairo. Looked like a pretty elaborate tunnel. Have fun in Cairo-Ride Safe

You did well in having that police escort - the Sharm to Suez road is lethal - even in daytime. I've driven it several times and it scared me rigid. I had an Egyptian colleague killed on that road too.

Great video, really enjoyed seeing your travels. Small world though: the dive shop Scuba One (outside which the policeman told you you'd gone the wrong way) is owned by a good friend of mine - and he owns Scuba Two which is the one you met up with your fellow bikers for the ride. Just to add some replies to other comments on here: the police escorts were there for KInga's safety, the South Sinai police take keeping tourist safe very seriously. Ride safe, Kinga.

Back in 2006 I spent 3 weeks in Egypt. Dahab is also excellent for divers: they call it 'The Blue Hole' if I remember correctly, for the very steep drop-off right next to the coastline. We didn't get to spend any time in Sharm El-Sheikh sadly, because the Mossad had issued a terror alert for the place at the time, and we didn't want to push our luck (we were told there was a hotel bombing in Cairo while we were down South). We had military escorts all the way as well, by people armed with AK-47s. I also do remember the filthy toilets and the checkpoints! 😂
