I stumbled upon a second hand pair of oni secret denim and was blown away, though it wasnt my right size it really convinced me to look into it. I got the one-wash ishikawadai 288, a regular straight fit similar but slightly slimmer than the one in this vid (oni295) and with regular copper rivets and no shinchback this vid convinced me to get a pair and they are seriously the most beautiful pair of jeans I own and oh my god THE FIT as a tall lankier guy looking for a slightly wide straight fit thats quite fitted this really hit the spot. I am really looking forward to fading these jeans after seeing the amazing fade and colours on the second hand pair.

I picked the ishikawadai up in the 200 wide straight cut from blue owl workshop. These are perfect for those with larger thighs. The blue/green color of these is beautiful. I can’t go with anything but oni ever again!

if I’m not mistaken this isn’t Oni’s secret denim? The secret denim is exclusively 20oz is it not? The ishikawadai isn’t marketed or stated as the secret denim anywhere that I can find. I have this denim in the 200 fit

Technically, you’re right, the secret denim is the 20 ounce version that they originally released utilizing this di method, however, the same kind of cast and die is used for this Ishikawadai fabric. It’s really the same dye, just a different weight and yarn structure 😇

Texture is very different though. Secret denim has a very low tension weave, so weft is well present in the texture. It’s also noticeably slubbier.

This is true. I own 2 pairs of oni secret denim. I also tried on Ishikawadai jeans. They are similar in color but completely different in texture. But thank you for making a video to share.

I once had a pair of narrow-whale cords (or was it some type of brushed fabric?) with a crotch rivet and I found that rivet distracting. It drew the eye down. Which I guess was fine for I was in my 20s. But now I'd want to try on the pair before purchasing to see where that rivet sits when standing and sitting. It would likely would stick out more as the indigo fades

The CCD is the most unique fabric I’ve ever seen. It will get comments from strangers consistently. Some people like that, some people don’t.

hi! for sizing, do you think it’s possible to ride a bike in these jeans? im asking cus my current pair of hawaii jeans sometimes get tight around the crotch area so its hard to stretch my legs some of those times

I would definitely size up! The fabric on these due to the heavier weight can definitely give you a bit discomfort if not sized up. Hope this helps! 😁

Honestly, I always recommend that people size up and raw denim, so I’ve never really had much of a stretching happen to be honest 🥹 I definitely highly doubt they would stretch out 2 inches though 👀

I have a pair of 544 asphalts, they stretched an inch in the waist after a week of wear. Secret Denim should stretch more

Greencast denim fades look super vintage, but was greencast denim a thing that existed in the past?

Yes, technically due to the bottom layers of indigo, being less oxidized from what I understand on denim fabric, they all had a green cast, which gives them that kind of vintage look 😁 however, in the 1920s, Levi’s begin slowly utilizing synthetic fabrics as well, so the varying green character in denim was also due to the aging of the white yarns, as well as sweat and dirt. It’s very interesting stuff 😁
