Been watching it for three decades and no one has seen anything like him. His parents are former Olympic skaters and they raised and trained him. What he has done has been likened to the moon landing in figure skating. He also has that “it” factor.

I’m loving the little nuances blossoming in his performances. And I’m amazed how calm he enters a jump, especially the entry of the axel in this performance. His jumps are so smooth and solid in and out now and don’t distract from the flow of the performance. His confidence in them is transferred to the spectator. Little worry he will falter from the moment he sets up the jump. I think this performance is even better than worlds as far as artistry.

@@ers0135 the cartwheel with one hand and the two flips he does at around the 2:34 mark. They aren’t really figure skating moves but done for artistry, but Ilia is known to push the limits technically in his programs. He also does this cartwheel with NO hands in some of his competition programs.

Softer music requires softer arm movements; the jumps, cartwheel and Raspberry Twist are dynamic, very Ilia's; the Ina Bauer glide across the ice is quite dramatic. I also enjoy the little detail such as spinning on one heel. Beautiful skate, Ilia! Love it.

It is great to see Ilia experimenting with various movements in field outside of his trademark Raspberry Twist. The backwards knee slide was nice, I loved the roundoff, though I recognize it is quite illegal, and that Ina Bauer was gorgeous.
