First, let me tell you something, you don't any idea of how much I appreciate your pronunciation of Japanese names, it's really good. This one was one of the games I was really looking forward to this year. The graphics, art style, soundtrack and story are right up my alley and I really enjoyed this aspects of the demo. But the early game combat was extremely tedious and repetitive for me, I assume it gets better once you have more skills, but it really took me out of the experience.

My biggest issue is that TGS games are way too expensive for what they're providing. I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear weren't bad, but they were so average for their asking price at launch. Same goes for this game. They're like 39.99 CAD devs selling games at 59.99 CAD.

It's a $50 game that you can easily get 50-60 hours out of, stop speedrunning and only doing the main quests, if you don't want to complete the game then maybe it isn't for you, that's the best thing about the gaming industry, play games you want to play and ignore the rest, stop worrying about shallow things like trophies and only playing whats popular, get off the bandwagon and just play what you enjoy, this is why I research every game before buying it so I'll know if I'll enjoy it

It's cool to see a video about this game. I remember being interested in it as well because the art style looks cool plus it's an action-RPG which is typically my jam but the price kind of turned me away. From your description, it sounds like I was right in my initial assessment but will definitely pick the game up once it drops in price a bit.

Great visuals and interesting story. Combat felt too repetitive, found myself just mashing the attack button most times with the occasional Daemon skill. I agree that it isn’t worth full price but probably worth picking up on sale.

Your final recommendation perfectly encapsulates my feeling that this title wasn't exactly one to get immediately on launch. It has a great look, but if earlier concerns with story pacing as well are anything to go by; then this waiting for a sale is even more warranted.

Just like you, I was really intrigued by the visuals and the story pieces we got at the Nintendo Direct! I thought I would like that game, but surprisingly, I loved the game! Although the story feels a little bit rushed, it really hit me in a sweet spot! It really started with that won, little personal story, but envelopes this huge conflict, where you really get the feel of importance! This game is worth a buy, at least in sale!

Very accurate review. I found myself skipping a lot because all you really needed was a sentence or to of dialogue to get pretty much the main idea of what's going on and going to happen. The end game is where its at though, as does away with all the "story" chafe.

The main character is a dude with white hair, wears a mask in front of his mouth most of the time, has one red eye and one normal eye, is pretty strong and has a dark past. And his name is kagachi....i get the feeling the developers really like a certain Anime.

I got to play the demo on the Switch, which seems to have some performance issues even when docked so I'd probably recommend PS4 or PC version. I actually ended up trying the demo on Hard as I found the base combat pretty easy, but when I hit that first boss I found the enemy pretty strong without a consistently working evade. I think it's supposed to be A button? (X button on PS4) but any time I pressed it, nothing happened. That had me wondering if I wanted to spend the full price on the game. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, and will probably get it at a lower price-point, despite really wanting to support Tokyo RPG Factory. Curiously, I just got Crystar last Tuesday, another mid-budget action RPG where reincarnation factors heavily into the plot. It made a far better first impression, and I'm curious if you're looking to give that one a whirl as well since it seems right up your alley. Coincidentally, an ad for the game popped up right as your video concluded.

I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear were made by these people? Ok, I've downloaded a demo for Lost Sphear, played fifteen minutes once the gameplay started and was so bored I couldn't continue. Same thing for Oninaki. I wasn't wowed by what little I played of I am Setsuna at a buddy's. I had NO idea these all had the same developer.

I dowloaded and played the demo a couple of days ago on switch, and I must say, the best thing about it was the gameplay, because: The load times of the game were really bothersome, compared to other games like BOTW, Mario:Odyssey, this one felt really badly optimized The frame drops in the game were very noticeable and quite annoying There was no music whatsoever. Upon playing for the first time, me and my friend kept remarking how silent the game was, and took it for an intended feature, until we hit the main town, which did have a soundtrack, but upon returning to said town, there was no music, I checked to see if there were maybe a special event or something but after reloading the area, we noticed it was an audio bug, and assumed it plagued the entire game, which Valkerie's claim of a great soundstrack leads me to believe a big bug is the case Overall, I wanted to like the game, its very pretty, the combat remind me of the old DS games I used to play when younger, and the dark story tickles my fancy for dark fantasy, but everything else felt, so crudely made, I'll have to keep an eye on it but I must say my interest dropped like Italy against Green Day.

I got the demo and I found the more upgrades you give your Daemons the better the combat feels, because in my opinion, the combat before getting upgrades doesn't flow super well. The story seems extremely interesting however.

I really take issue with all of Tokyo RPG Factory’s games being criticized for being full price. Just because big triple A games are the norm doesn’t mean lower budget, old style JRPGs aren’t worth the price of admission. Tbh, these games give you a lot of bang for your buck. And I just worry, as someone who loves the 16/32 bit JRPG revival, that these games won’t continue to be made with a general consensus that they aren’t worth paying for.

But they aren't worth the price of a triple A title because they are a lower funded studio making a lower funded game. Less money to make means it should cost less money... quality should cost more. Also if they weren't visuals you'd expect on a PS2 and they dropped the price by 20$ people wouldn't be hesitant to buy it.
