Thank you for the pattern. I broke my arm and couldn't get on a winter coat. My husband cut it out and I sewed it up in about 15 minutes. I love it. Thank you!

I'm making these for the Homeless in Northern USA. I'm using the extra fabric to make matching mittens (I'm making mittens so they can drop one of those great 8-12 hour handwarmers into each mitten.) I bought extra solid fleece to add lots of pockets to the inside. 💖 Thank you for your wonderful pattern!

Made myself one of these today added some pockets on the front and wore it in car today great for in the car I also made matching headband (ear warmer type) and fingerless gloves that match thanks for great video how to !!!
@timmyangeltlc48887 жыл бұрын
My mother in law helped me make this and we actually made the body of the poncho with two thicknesses of fabric for extra warmth. We kept the cowl one thickness and sewed as shown in the video. We also put a hem onto what is the top edge of the cowl (ends up being the front edge of the hood when pulled up. We also took some of the extra fabric and made a pocket on the front of the poncho and inside front to help keep my hands warm. To finish the straight edges we simply turned the edges in and sewed the seams shut.
@melissajenkins9960 Жыл бұрын
I know you commented about this 5 years ago, but I have fleece and some faux Sherpa fabric that I would like to use for this poncho. How did you use the two thicknesses? Did you just sew them together at the edges or did you properly create a hem / seam?
@naydanjay7 жыл бұрын
Very simple and easy to follow directions. I made one last year by looking at an old one I had bought many years ago. It just had a high collar instead of a hood. I like the idea of the hood and I think my next one will have a hood like the one here. Thank you.

I love this,. I have 2 questions: 1: when you fold it at first, are you matching the sides that used to have the selvage? (then arm to arm would be the 52 inches and front to back would by the width of the fabric? I have a directional fleece I's like to use but think I would have to cut 2 pieces. )2. When cutting the cowl- which measurement goes with the stretch of the fleece? Thanks!
@onlinefabricstore3 жыл бұрын
That first fold is going to be along the length, so the selvage edges are still along the sides. For the cowl, you want the stretch to be in line with the longer of the two measurements.

@professorroundbottom4382 жыл бұрын
I'm just an internet nobody, not associated with the makers of this video, but I can tell you how I'd do it: When you've got the hole for your head at a comfortable size, measure around the edge of the hole. That measurement plus seam allowance is how long you should cut the cowl/hood piece. For the width, to make sure you can pull it up over your head, measure from your forehead to the nape of your neck and add a seam allowance plus about 1 to 1½ inches for room to move.
@conniegonzales9496 Жыл бұрын
I like this pattern. Thank you for sharing. Quick question...what would the measurements be for someone who is 4'10" tall?

Thank you for the video. I know that ponchos are "one size fits all", but sometimes that does not fit a plus size. Would you add more material for plus sizes? If so, how much, 2 1/4 yd?

@TheMy3tons5 жыл бұрын
I have someone that wants a slightly bigger one. About 6" more. So i would do 58" ? Also, obviously the width cant change. So would it make it awkward looking?

@sln43474 жыл бұрын
what 'side' (length/inches) is going across your shoulders vs (length inches) down your body? I need mine to be a lot longer , closer to the ground, so when I sit down, it still covers my legs/feet. jsut want to be sure I get enough fabric.

@violetwhite38574 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if I could do this with any kind of fabric?
@onlinefabricstore4 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could, but if it is a fabric that frays, you will need to be really diligent about hemming the edges
@sherrymcnicholls42393 жыл бұрын
@@onlinefabricstore could a person use flannel and clip the edges so when washed it would be like a rag quilt? You could even sew the cowl on the outside and the snipped edges would get ragged too.

what yardage would you use for a small child
@onlinefabricstore8 жыл бұрын
Hi Rosie, for a small child I would use 1 yard total.
@LMTRoxana8 жыл бұрын
Would you use the same measurements for the hood? or less?
@onlinefabricstore8 жыл бұрын
I would use less. My recommendation would be to measure the neckline of the child. Then from the bottom of the neck measure up to the bottom of the chin. Whatever that measurement is double it so you can fold it over. You may need up to a 1 1/4 yards of fabric if you find that the poncho itself would be too small after you cut the rectangle piece for the cowl.

Would I be able to make this reversible?
@onlinefabricstore5 жыл бұрын
I guess I don't see why not. You would probably want to sew the pieces together so you don't have to mess with fabric glue (although that would probably work as well) You would most likely be able to see the fabric from the other side when you are wearing it but as long as they are complementary I think that might be really nice.

This looks great! I really want to make one for my daughters who are 9 and 6 years old. Can you say how could I customize for a child? Thank you!
@onlinefabricstore6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dahlia, The cowl neck/hood would probably work well at the same dimensions as in the video so it's easy to get on and off kids. The nice thing about fleece is you don't have to hem the edges so it's easy to cut smaller after it's made. We'd suggest starting with a rectangle that's a bit smaller than in the video and then you can always cut it down more to be the perfect size for your daughters.
