BMW X3 20d M Sport G01 2017 Review

Just purchased a New X3 20d really impressed with it. What would you say is your ideal driving position with seat and steering wheel set up?

When you show how much rear leg/headroom it would help to know how tall you are. Plenty of legroom for someone 5 '7" can be cramped for someone 6' 2".

Apologies Gary. I'm 5'10" so fairly average height i guess. Yes I think you'd have no problem if you were a 6ft'er. Thanks for checking out the review :)

Interesting to know would be: 1. your opinion in comparison to 520d touring M Sport you have driven and 2. if adaptive dampers for X3 with 20‘‘ are necessary, test car had M suspension?

Hi Marv1385, Thanks for checking out the review. 1. Both identical on power, it really comes down to personal preference. I would personally go for the tourer as I prefer estate cars due to the larger load capacity and handling. 2.I think the adaptive is nice to have and does improve the ride quality but the X3 which I drove and reviewed seemed very compliant with coil spring M Suspension. If you've got the extra cash then go for the adaptive but it wouldn't make or break the car for me. Hope that helps Marv1385. Paul

I am confussed. You talk about standard suspension vs adaptive suspension as if there is a difference in the susspension itself. My understanding is that adadptive means that the car automatically changes between sport and comfort suspension depending on how you are driving - where as with standard suspension you will have to change between sport and comfort manually. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are wrong. Adaptive dampers anticipate pot holes using window camera and "adapt" accordingly. The adaptive button does also now change depending on your driving style and uses sat nav info to help. Non adaptive suspension is passive. And on X cars is just fine for most people. Unless you go for 21s lol. On a 3 series i have adaptive dampers in the UK and its great. My wife has an X4 non adaptive and it is super comfy and feels great too. Hope that helps.

I have been told by a dealer the M 40D will arrive next year for me the 335d engine as you well know is the best I had the X3/35d new in 2015 best car I think I have ever had so I will be waiting my current car is the 335d Touring 2017 great car also.

David awesome that’s great 👍🏼 yeah the B57 unit is a brilliant motor. Although saying that even with 265ps its still an impressive unit but 300+ ps will make it even better

August 2018 I believe. Bimmerpost and alike have pics of an X4 40D (exterior looks like the M40i) but of course will it come to the UK...? Hope so.

You are quoting the consumption as 56 mpg combined witch is the manufacturer quote but in real life you are barely getting 40 mpg ,i have this engine in my X3 .

Well I think in reality most people know they'll never achieve the 'actual' book figures but even 40mpg in a car of this size would be very respectable. Thanks for checking out the review though Argus.

Side vent are only there for show .. you need to know more about the car before you advertise it
