I'm translating from my subconscious thoughts to English, and so do I for my native language (that is, I'm mostly not using it for THINKING, only for communication, reading, writing etc). I don't think in English, it is totally ridiculous and stupid to actually THINK in some broken language.

You know it's abysmal when people stress TOO much on grammar while most native English speakers don't even see grammar errs as such a big deal. For example - you come across the sentence '' I lived in Germany for one year and a half.'' then you start wondering why that sentence doesn't include the present perfect time tense. You feel like everything you have known so far was wrong, that your basis is absolutely incorrect. I have always been apprehensive ( more fretful lately), because of the times I was wrong when translating something from my language to English, hence that made me believe my speech was tremendously inarticulate. However, good job again!

Hi Greg, yesterday I found your channel. It's exactly what I've been looking for... I can really understand every single word, your explanations and pronunciation are very distinct and clear. Very helpful in my efforts to improve my English and quit translating from German in my head. Thanks for the good job you do!

Geht mir ganz genauso. Ich lerne ja logischerweise Englisch in der Schule und mir macht es einfach Spaß, außerhalb der Schule mein Englisch noch etwas zu verbessern. Und da ist er wirklich gut, denn man versteht ihn einwandfrei und er erklärt es ebenso leicht. Ich weiß allerdings auch, dass dein Kommentar schon ein Jahr her ist, bist du noch dabei? Falls ja, hast du erwünschte Fortschritte machen können?

I have been learning English since I am 6 years old. I have published scientific articles on American governmental sites and written a PhD thesis in English. I am trying my best to speak as a native speaker, and I am always frustrated each time there is a word that I don’t know, especially in the News. The English dictionary just never ends.. 💙

This is absolutely true. The chunks are the only sentences I can use fluently. And yes, it‘s better to speak wrong than try to recall correct words all the time. It leads to a desaster and embarasses the other person even more

Thank you so much teacher Greg, it's amazing how we can describe the main features of something when we don't know the word. And I couldn't agree more with you Greg, we shouldn't worry too much about making mistakes, it's ok because we're learning a new language and also as you said Greg, we should use the words that we already know. And learn some common homonyms could be useful although the context will probably help us undertand the meaning of the words. Many thanks teacher Greg, the best teacher!😊

I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process and communication skills in English and other languages.

Super explanation Greg!! You just read my mind, I came US 6 years ago, and I started to learn English exactly translating word by word, it was frustrating and unproductive. You have so much right, we need to focus at the expression, to repeat them and use them, and the idioms are most of them different from your native language to English!! It is nice to listen your lessons, thank you for your amazing work!! Appreciate it much! Carmen from Romania.

Hi Mister Greg,I believe that to be thinking in one foreign Ianguage the first step is:reconize your mistakes and fixed up them.Second:don't committee it wrong from once, never say that even you is fluently ever it.There are so much possibilities for figure out about this matter.Because the learning is continuining process on,nevermore a product in terminal stage.Feed up your brain with news things every day.Put it right on your mind you'll never turn me fluently about it,unless that you to learn by itself mistakes.
