Frodo resisted it yes, until the moment of truth, and then it consumed his will. Like you said it was only because of a fluke that it fell into the fires of Mount Doom because of Frodo and Gollum fighting over it. So you CAN'T really say that a noble selfless act defeated the power of the One Ring.

Tolkien himself wrote on this. He had a philosophy that even if heroics may ultimately fail, evil will eventually destroy itself. The ring's temptations were it's own undoing. Sauron killed himself in the end. As for the fluke of a push, Tolkien wrote that Eru may have rewarded Frodo's endurance up to that point by giving a divine push at just the right time. Speaking of Frodo's endurance, Tolkien had the notion that along with physical and mental endurance, everyone has a limit to what they can morally endure. Frodo is to be commended not because he fell. Everyone falls if pushed hard enough. He's to be commended for lasting right up until his very moral limit instead of falling earlier.

On a different note a noble, selfless act DID defeat the power of the One Ring but not Frodo's act. Rather Bilbo, decades earlier, decided to spare Gollum when he could have killed him and it was very much in his self-interest to do so. Because of that choice Gollum was there to precipitate the destruction of the Ring (and not just then but also in getting Frodo and Sam into Mordor in the first place). That small act of mercy that Bilbo likely never really considered significant after he escaped the caves saved the world.

@@GriffinPilgrim Very true, and it reminds me of an interesting point of view on the whole "small acts can change the world" thing. When you're out and about in the world, treat today like you just travelled back a hundred years and you're worried what ripple effects even the smallest action could have on the future. We're already someone's past. Make it a good one.

Ancalagon was three times larger than Smaug according to the Hobbit novel
@tyforestreacts

You might want to look up the actual size difference. It’s quite a bit of a larger margin than that. Ancalagon’s fall stretched across Thangorodrim, which was *three mountains*. He makes Smaug look like a regular lizard.

You cannot kill a being from the void you can only separate his physical form. Sauron has stupid durability because he represents a force of nature kind of like Sithis from Skyrim.

@@acendantoverlord5737 Although the heart of nirn I would say might be stronger than the ring. You can only destroy the ring with the fires that created it. I don't know if anything in the elder scrolls universe can destroy the heart of Lorkan. if the god head woke up yea but that pretty much is the universe.

Its so funny cause my favorite two anime's are Kill La Kill and Black Clover as well, (although Black Clover is my #1). And I also started reading the manga after catching up the anime for the first time in my life due to Black Clover. I really hate how people shit on the anime despite only watching a few episodes. I'm glad this is the next time since it is my current 2nd most wanted episode op Death Battle and the amount of people in the community throwing a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted is absurd.

the only actual lore inconsistency in the DB for either side is one that was in the preview but cut out of Arthas's actual analysis, in which they called the city he sacked the capital, when it was just a fringe town named Stratholme. Another example, for all intents and purposes the effect of the One Ring is invisibility, even if the actual mechanisms behind aren't exactly the usual fare for that ability. Sauron's spirit isn't indestructible either, that's an NLF, it just runs on a vast but finite pool of power that decays over time, causing his maintaining of it or potential regeneration of bodies to become more time consuming and difficult every time he does it. The One Ring only being destroyable by the fires of Mount Doom would be a similar NLF, books make it pretty clear it's just a matter of it being the only thing that ever came near the ring with enough power to break it, hence the pop-up about Ancalagon. Similarly you do not need to destroy the ring to kill Sauron, nor does Sauron die if you do break it, and scaling Sauron anywhere above country makes zero sense beyond the very vague star feat that was described in the verdict there's a meaty official QnA bc a lot of people get the actual details mixed up, both vs-wise and backstory-wise. It's one of their best: ulltraguy.blogspot.com/2022/11/sauron-vs-lich-king-q.html

The invisibility is a side effect of the Ring drawing it's wearer partially in the spirt realm. That is a rather different situation with different consequences than just being unseen. As a for instance my guess is Arthas, a guy with control over spirits, would be unaffected by that particular feature. Tolkien confirmed that Sauron survived even the destruction of the Ring, albeit helpless and unable to act. So his spirit is indeed indestructible. His powers aren't infinite, yes, but with the Ring on his finger he's easily got the juice to use whatever he needs to take down Arthas. You absolutely need to destroy the Ring to kill Sauron and destroying it does kill him(ish, see above), that's what the whole book is about. If you could have killed him without taking out the Ring then they'd have done so after the Last Alliance. If you mean you can pseudo-kill him without destroying it, like Isildur did, then yes, that's true, but you do still need to separate him from the Ring, which means (barring getting lucky) you have to know to do that. Rule 1 of Death Battle: "The warriors can only know of each other if they do know each other in canon in both official universes." Arthas does not know that the Ring is anything more than jewellery. Meanwhile his artefact of power, a honking great sword, is rather easier to figure out as a target. Destroying the One Ring is not a matter of power. The lesser Rings of Power could be destroyed by sufficient force, a couple of the Dwarfen Rings were melted by dragon-fire, but not the One Ring. No power, no matter how great, could destroy it except being cast into the fires of Mount Doom and then only in the chamber in which it was made. It wasn't because that was "the only thing that ever came near the ring with enough power to break it," it was a mystical effect of it being the place where it was made. Literally nothing else can even damage it. A comparison; sunlight burns vampires in many settings. A light brighter than sunlight would not burn a vampire because even though it's a more powerful light it's not the right light. So unless the fight takes place in that specific part of Mount Doom Arthas is not destroying it. Removing it, maybe, if he gets really lucky, but not destroying it. As for Sauron not being above country level you may recall him personally running a war across a continent while nowhere near the height of his powers. You probably know more about Azeroth than me but your Middle Earth knowledge needs work.
